I saw Julia Hope's contest 'Dancing in the rain' and the repeated thing that said 'POEMS AREN'T ALLOWED' made me really want to write a poem about rain ( not for the contest, I'm not that annoying)
But also, I completely agree that poetry and story contest should probably be separate, else it isn't really fair for those who wrote 3000 word vs those who wrote 50 . That being said, I am still going to enter contests with a bunch of poems when I'm allowed, lol, sorry.
have I already done poems about rain?? maybe, can't remember, doesn't matter.
anyway, here's what I came up with:
(when I'm writing this there isn't actually anything there yet, so I hope it's good)

Once, as rain poured down from the sky,
as the clouds split open as lightning struck
followed ominously by world-shaking thunder,
a boy sat alone.
Not outside! No, not outside in the cold
but it was still rather cold where he sat inside -
he shivered.
Why do I tell of this? Why to I seek to emphasise,
to show with my word, a simple tale of a lone child?
Because as he sat on the floor and watched rain beat against the windows,
he thought, privately to himself:
'Why, the rain seems desperate to be about me...
Why does no-one else?'
And it was a question of complete validity. Why,
would nobody play with him? Talk with him? Why
did nobody want to be his friend?
Lightning struck again as he pondered,
again thunder echoed through the great hall that he sat in,
and still the rain threw itself against the glass window.
Would it ever cease? He wondered.
And to this day, though it has been a fair time since
- almost sixty years in fact -
it has not ceased, the storm has worn on, the boy has grown
yet still is alone.

Rushing to and fro, the streets are filled with busy people
And so these busy people are annoyed when it begins to rain.
Inside, they huddle, but it does not cease, and so the busy street empties,
No-one in sight dares venture, would perhaps
You come with me?

Dance with me in the rain.
All the birds have gone to rest,
Yet the sky doesn't feel at all blank, filled to the brim with stars,
Stars that glimmer like spilled glitter.

I invite you,

Stand in the rain with me,
Even though they look at us funny, these busy people with better things to do,
Even though we might get cold and certainly damp, will you join me?
