The Chemistry
A underground laboratory has been raided. The soldiers wearing thick Kevlar and helmets claimed to be bullet-resistant. They were also equipped with masks to protect against toxic fumes.
They lined up and ran quickly like ants invading another ant colony. The place was like a corridor with leaking clear liquids from the ceiling or an unknown source, pooling on the floor. The hallway was dimly lit.
"Go go go!"
The GIGN team, consisting of about 12 members in the front and 12 members in the back, moved forward. The corridor was straight, leading to a tightly closed steel door.
One person attempted to turn the door knob, resembling a ship's wheel, but it didn't budge. Of course, their team was not easily outsmarted. Their wit was supported by adequate equipment. They each held an MP5, a German-made Heckler & Koch submachine gun. But every individual also carried a rectangular-shaped device.
One person quickly attached it to the outside of the steel door. As soon as it was attached, the GIGN members behind it immediately retreated.
"Fire in the hole!"
#Boom!
Instantly, the steel door yielded and its hinges broke. Like flowing water, the GIGN members swiftly entered, but with caution.
The room they entered was now ten times larger than the previous dimly lit corridor. There were numerous chemical equipment with computers serving as database support. There were no more leaking ceilings or freely pooled water on the floor. They found themselves in a highly futuristic laboratory.
However, before stepping into the vast area, the GIGN had no choice but to tread through one of the standing water puddles. Initially hesitant, when one person stepped in and nothing happened, they continued forward.
After a few steps, they encountered a woman wearing a lab coat. She appeared to be a professor. She faced a large monitor without showing any concern for the red dot sight-equipped MP5s aimed at her head and heart.
"Freeze! Stop, Denise Verany!" The loud command was possibly heard by the woman, who surrendered herself. At least it was better than a direct bullet greeting.
The woman had blonde hair tied in a ponytail, beautiful and confident. She looked more like a model than a police fugitive. However, because she showed no fear at all, it meant that she had experienced this situation before.
She was unarmed, but the GIGN members didn't release their targets. More precisely, the 24 GIGN members surrounding her were ready to strike. Her only defense was her self-confidence, which prevented the GIGN from immediately incapacitating her.
"Captain Bain, you will never uncover the truth about all the government conspiracies. And with my death here, neither you nor anyone else will obtain the desired sample. You and your personnel are all mistaken!" she stated calmly and openly.
"Should I believe the words of a drug dealer and a Russian spy like you, huh?"
"First, I am not a drug dealer, Captain. But maybe you said that to protect someone from the accusations," she replied.
"Does that mean the second piece of information is true?"
The woman remained silent and didn't provide a direct answer. In fact, she boldly approached closer. In a flash, she swiftly injected a syringe into her own neck from her left pocket.
"See you in hell, darling."
In an instant, the woman paralyzed herself within seconds. She collapsed and lost consciousness.
"All of you, search for any available information!"
The GIGN members immediately moved towards the woman, Professor Denise Verany. There was actually a staircase leading upwards next to another door, but their priority was right in front of them.
However, suddenly, all 23 of them fell and screamed in pain. They writhed on the ground as if being burned, but the fire was invisible.
"What happened to all of you?" Captain Bain asked in confusion. He even reported loudly and bewilderedly over the radio transmission, "Recon team, do not enter! It's dangerous here! Call for a helicopter to escape!"
Instantly, the 23 GIGN members fell and lost consciousness. Now, there were 24 individuals who collapsed, but 23 of them were in an empty state with their Kevlar suits burning, for reasons unknown.
Captain Bain reached for the adjacent staircase, not too high. He walked towards the middle and jumped down. Right below him lay the professor, Denise Verany.
Captain Bain immediately carried her lifeless body. Behind the large monitor, there was a hidden door. Captain Bain walked towards it, still carrying the professor's body.
"What about Sophia, darling? Is she safe?"
The body turned out to be alive and responded.
"Our child is safe behind us. And Sharia, one more." The woman rubbed her belly. "She's safe, and I'll make sure she's born healthy."
"Good! I've called for a helicopter as a diversion," added Captain Bain. "How did you do that?"
"Methanol... You must know why there was so much water in the hallway, right? But you didn't approach me directly. Because there was fire surrounding me earlier," she said.
"Ah, a clever woman!"
