Mia
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
I'm going to kill him.
It's final.
My body shakes with a newfound rage as my sister screams through her change. It's been like this for hours. Her grunts of pain and screams of agony pierce every part of my soul. Drowning it in misery and torture. She's fighting it. Just like I had. Until the witch forced me through.
But for her, there aren't any sorceresses that can pull her through. Or at least alleviate the pain. The only ones here besides my sister and I are the two wolves that saved her. There was another that left to go get his Alpha.
This was the last straw. He can come after me all he wants, but to send a vampire after my sister. My sister, who'd just weeks ago managed to live through his first attack with a few bruises.
He sent a vampire that nearly killed her. She'd only survived due to the mercy of the wolf from the local pack. That and my deal with Sekhmet's servant.
I touch the magical red stained collar on my neck that'll often go invisible.
I shot up from the candles, Madness waits within ready to attack. The wind from the her sudden appearance already blew out the flames. She walked with the odd grace of a stalking lioness.
Tall, maybe taller with her black boot heels with brown fur on the top which came to the bottom of her knee strapped over a pair of blue skinny jeans.
She wore a black button accompanied by a leather jacket. Her hair was in a short afro that framed her face perfectly. And speaking of, she was drop dead gorgeous. In that same compelling and odd way Jabari is. Which means that she's one of the Laibon.
Browns and golds swirled behind her eyes as she regarded me, in that same condescending look the Orisha gave me during the vampire attack weeks ago.
She was just a Laibon, which meant that I wasn't forced to give her the same respect I would them. She'll have to earn it. Especially since she broke into my damn apartment. "Who are you?" I confront.
She snickers. "A savior."
"Cut the bullshit." I snap, pulling Madness a bit closer. "You could've knocked."
Smirking, she walks over to the door and taps on it twice. "Knock, knock." She snickers. "Happy now."
I roll my eyes at her humorless joke. "Funny, now who are you and why'd you break into my place?"
"As I said, a savior."
"And who are you saving exactly?" I reply, deciding to play along.
She stalks over to me and reaches out her hand to touch the side of my face, I reel back in disgust despite the odd warmth that came from her.
Sensing, she pulls her hand back, a small look of annoyance crosses her face. "I'm here to help save your sister. Alexandria."
"Save her from what?" My voice cracks a bit. Save Alexandria? If something is about to happen to her then I need to know. And now.
Tears pierce my eyes at the sounds of my sister's bones cracking, only to settle back in place then break once more. Her shouts invade the memory slamming me back into another one more vivid than I care to remember.
Purple flames that snaked its way around my body.
Peter's pleas of desperation.
Madness's howls of suffering as she broke free from me in such a short time span. A shift that fast should've killed me, somewhere deep within my soul I knew it should have, and yet she managed to pull me through.
Suddenly, the memory shifted, contorting into another more gruesome yet fainter.
The witch's screams of agony as Melody tore into her side. Her white fur coated in blood as the smoke from Merida's overwhelming magic sucked the air out of the cave.
I remember the emotions swirling coated in the pain that vibrated throughout my body. Fear, joy, relief. Emotions that pale in comparison to the turmoil swimming in me now. Anger, grief, agony.
As I touch the invisible magic collar etched into my throat, Madness began to stir intensely. One shift then another, until she was practically clawing at the surface. I could feel my eyes go red as another painful scream came from the room.
The apartment door bursts open and I look over to see Kristen rush into the apartment. She didn't even spare a glance before running to Alex's room. I could only take a few steps to follow her before Madness held me still.
"Mia."
Her soft voice flowed like music that warmed every part of me. My body turned to her as a pull washed over me resulting in an awakening that has been numbed by the harsh words exchanged between us and dulled by the separation over these last few weeks. She walked into the room, her eyes focused on me and me alone causing Madness to purr. Sensing the movement, Merida breathed deeply and let it out slowly.
On instinct, the moment she released I inhaled, as if wanting to...
I wanted something. Something that I told myself I would wait for. Until I was ready.
Merida walked further into the space and I couldn't stop myself from meeting her. Every exhale she released was a breath I took. And the rhythm continued until the warm of her arms wrapped around me and I melted. No words needed to be exchanged for us to know.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Our lips were close, our arms wrapped around each other, her leg positioned right where Madness and I needed her to be. Her chest so close to mine that our heartbeats matched. She breathed in, I breathed out. She exhaled, I inhaled.
The magic between us was so powerful, so moving, that the apartment felt like it was shifting. Everything was quiet.
Merida brought one hand into my hair and the other to my lower back, her finger traced small lines that had Madness wanting. I flinched, taking my bottom lip into my teeth as Merida gripped my hair, gently pulling my head back. I glimpsed Melody at the forefront as she brought her head down to the base of my neck.
"I need you." She whispers.
Lost to the sensation, all my waiting, all the holding back, making excuses, hiding secrets, fighting my wolf as if baring moralistic integrity was going to fix our situation. It was too much and I was sick of it.
I needed Merida in a way no one understood. In a way that was raw....heated. I needed her security, her stability. I needed her vexing, her pestering, her patience, and her intensity.
"Yes." I grip the back of her jacket, my wolf knowing what she truly means. "Yes."
The sound of heavy footsteps broke Merida from me in an instant. She turned as the door opened revealing a large grey haired man that I can only assume to be the Alpha they left to get and alongside him, was a young woman dressed in purple robes. I caught her silver eyes for a moment as they widened and then settled. Her gaze lingered on me with a gentle emotion behind them.
Merida and I breathed heavy as we watch them came into the room.
The alpha's statue nearly filled the door frame as he entered first. His grey hair was pulled back, making his face look oddly younger. His sharp jawline twitched as his golden eyes glazed over Merida. I looked back and forth between the two as I pondered how they knew each other, but all I got from Merida was her usual calm demeanor.
"Alpha Carlos," Merida greeted tensely. So this was the Alpha of the San Francisco pack.
"Ah, Alpha Peter's daughter." Alpha Carlos responded as Merida's finger twitched. "You've grown since I last saw you."48Please respect copyright.PENANAbSpFQYP0q0
