She stood wide-eyed as she watched the ship speed toward a wall of dark water and wind. Snapping out of it, Wren tried to turn the wheel, but the ship was already too far into the churning waters that were pulling her in.
It was then that she realized why many believed the job was suited for men. No. She shook the thought out of her head. True, it was a tough job, but that wasn't her issue. She screwed up going out by herself. Had she had the team and wasn't sabotaged, she could've proved herself. She knew it. But she'd never get the chance to prove it.
Wren closed her eyes and prepared for the eventual crushing impact as she waited for the ship to be sucked in.
Suddenly, Wren remembered feeling the ship hit something in resistance and then felt extra assistance as it drove forward until it was a safe distance away from the storm. When she went onto the deck, she saw Avarice and Verin landing. She remembered it being unbelievable seeing two humans fly, knowing that somehow they were involved in saving her life.
Avarice complimented her bravery and drive before offering her the power to chase any storm she wanted without fear of death. He told her she had the potential to become something greater.
Wren remembered being hesitant at first because Avarice was the first man ever to tell her she had potential for more. The first man to encourage her ambitions. After he assured her they'd achieve great things together, she accepted his offer, concluding the memory.
Wren looked at the others; as the winds raged on, they were all now submerged underwater, their eyes beginning to turn red. She looked at Trevor but didn't let the panic set in. She knew what needed to be done to set them free.
For the most part, the offer she was given had been great - she was powerful, would live for hundreds of thousands of years, and couldn't be hurt by normal means - but it prevented her from ever facing her past. She masked her underlying issues by tormenting men over the centuries and having a soft spot for weak women, helping them, even if anonymously, by hunting down the men who hurt them.
However, she never got the chance to prove herself. In fact, she never saw her father again after that day.
"That's why I've always been insecure," Wren admitted softly, causing the mirrors to crack and shatter as water and the others flowed out of them.
Each of them coughed up small amounts of water as they tried to find their bearings.
"Sorry...for almost killing you all," Wren said uncharacteristically. She wasn't sure why, but she felt guilty for nearly killing them. Even Damien, though only slightly. "I was so focused on my thoughts I didn't know you were drowning. I didn't know we could."
"Likely an effect of the mindscape," Damien commented, rubbing his throat.
"I commend your strength to accept your weakness like that," Arne offered as solace as they stood. "Despite you nearly killing us, I don't blame you for feeling insecure. Being broken down by the world. By society. By your father... It must've been tough for you."
"Forget him," Trevor spoke, stepping to Wren. "You evolved. You moved beyond needing to prove yourself. How many times over the centuries have I come to you? How many times have Pops relied on you? Even J. Don't let a close-minded human like that linger in your head after today."
Wren heard the earnest emotion in Trevor's voice and could see the firm belief in his eyes as he spoke directly to her. Trevor hardly ever took anything seriously, but seeing him this way – like a little brother defending his sister's pride – struck something in her.
"Okay..." Wren spoke, her voice breaking involuntarily as he pulled her in for a hug. It may not seem like much after the world's changed so much since, but Wren had lived so long with those feelings buried. Finally, she could let it go and move forward. If she could escape the mindscapes, perhaps she could develop healthier relationships with others once she has served her time. The thought made her smile as she nuzzled under Trevor's embrace.
Suddenly, a new rift appeared in the air. It was made of sparking smoke. Wren looked at Trevor, whose expression was panicked now, but like the ones before, the rift moved to swallow them all before he could reject it.
When the light eased, and the new scenery was revealed, Wren saw that she, Damien, Naomi, and Arne were strapped to a wall. Their strength and power was gone, preventing them from breaking free. Across from them, Trevor was strapped to an opposite wall, with a thick polycarbonic divider separating them. Out the windows was a tropical environment. It reminded Wren of the island where she and Avarice found Trevor.
"What the..." Trevor struggled against his restraints pointlessly.
On the wall, lettering formed to create a sentence directed at Trevor.
It read: Welcome. Let's get right to it. Questions about your past will be asked. Lie or refuse to answer, and the others suffer. Answer truthfully: you suffer. Answering five honestly will result in your death. Each of your allies, however, will only survive two lies before they die. Let us begin.

Fun fact: Cataclysm - A passive mystic cintracy that gives Wren's spirit energy the qualities of multiple elements and grants her limited power over the elements in general.
Those under the effects who forcibly try to harm the user suffer internal damage and bleeding that could ultimately kill them.

For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
