As Evan stepped out of the sleek red Corvette, he felt a wave of determination wash over him, but a hint of hesitation lingered. He turned toward the hospital, ready to see his brother, when Robot Buddy's voice rang out, halting him in his tracks. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," Robot Buddy cautioned, a sense of urgency in his tone. "You and Kyra are wanted for crimes. If anyone notices you, they'll call the police, and Clark and his men will be on you like white on rice."
Evan's heart raced as he processed the implications. "Then what am I supposed to do? I can't just leave Donovan alone."
"It's best to use your power to teleport directly to Donovan's room," Robot Buddy advised.
Evan frowned, a hint of frustration creeping in. "I can't. I need to have a clear image in my head of where I'm going, or I won't be able to teleport properly."
Robot Buddy nodded in understanding. "Alright, then. Stand back."
Evan and Kyra stepped aside as Robot Buddy began to detransition. His form shimmered and shrank, becoming smaller and smaller until he disappeared altogether. The sudden change left both Evan and Kyra in astonishment.
"Robot Buddy? Where did you go?" Evan called out, a hint of panic in his voice.
Just when he thought he might not get a response, a small metallic fly zoomed into view, hovering next to his ear. "Right here!" Robot Buddy's voice came through, making Evan jump. "I'll go inside and connect to one of the hospital's computers to find out what room Donovan is in. Then I'll get a picture for you so you can teleport."
Evan felt a surge of hope as Robot Buddy zipped away, disappearing into the building. He turned to Kyra, who looked equally amazed and anxious. "I just hope he's fast."
Five minutes stretched into what felt like an eternity, but just as Evan began to worry, Robot Buddy returned, transforming back into his recognizable form. "Okay, I got a picture!" he announced, excitement in his voice.
Between them, a screen lit up, displaying an image of Donovan's hospital room-a small, dimly lit space with medical equipment and a single bed. Evan's heart raced. "Good job! Thank you!"
"Now memorize that!" Robot Buddy instructed. Evan focused intently on the image, imprinting every detail in his mind. He glanced at Kyra, who gave him a reassuring nod.
With resolve, he pulled Kyra close, holding her tightly. "Okay, let's do this."
Taking a deep breath, Evan concentrated on the picture of the room. He speaks, "teleport." Suddenly, a swirling portal opened beside them, pulsing with energy. Without hesitation, Evan and Kyra were sucked into the vortex, the world around them blurring as they were transported through space.
In an instant, they materialized in the corner of Donovan's hospital room. disoriented but intact. Evan blinked, the sterile smell of antiseptic filling his senses as he took in the sight of his brother lying in the hospital bed.
"Donovan!" he exclaimed, rushing to his brother's side.
As Evan stepped closer to the bed, he could see the mix of shame and embarrassment etched across Donovan's face, his brow furrowing in disbelief.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Donovan snapped, his voice strained but firm.
Evan froze for a moment, caught off guard. "I came to see you, man! I'm sorry I couldn't come with Mom and Essiya."
"I don't want you around Essiya or me. Get the fuck out of my room, or I'll get one of the nurses to call security, why did they even let you in here?" Donovan shot back, his anger palpable.
Evan's heart sank. "Donovan, I'm sorry. I couldn't come at first because-"
"Because you're running from the fucking police!" Donovan interrupted, his voice rising. "How the fuck did you get yourself involved with drugs and burning down a house? You bring shame to our family! And you tried to hide it from mom?!? What the fuck Evan. I had to tell her myself. And she almost had a nervous fucking breakdown."
Evan's stomach churned as he realized Donovan must have seen the news about him. "Donovan, it's not true! It's all lies!" he pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice.
Donovan scoffed, shaking his head. "Lies? You think people care about lying about you? They just report what they see. I don't know what the fuck is going on, but you've got yourself in some deep shit."
Evan took a deep breath, knowing he had to choose his words carefully. "Listen to me, please. You have to believe me. The police, the news-it's all a setup. I didn't do anything wrong! I'm in a situation that's spiraled out of control. It's not just about me anymore. I'm worried about you and Essiya too."
Donovan's expression shifted slightly, confusion leaking into his anger. "What are you talking about? What situation?"
Evan leaned in closer, urgency in his voice. "I can't explain everything right now, but I'm being targeted. This isn't just about drugs or fires; it's part of something much bigger. I need you to trust me when I say that."
Donovan glared at him, brows furrowing deeper. "Trust you? You expect me to just believe whatever you're saying?"
"Yes!" Evan exclaimed, desperation pooling in his eyes. "Look, I know it sounds crazy, but I need you to stand by me. Remember when Dad used to talk about family? This is what that means. We need each other right now."
After a long silence filled only by the beeping machines, Donovan looked away again, absorbed in his turbulent thoughts. "In my state right now, I can't do anything to help you. Let alone stand for you. I'm paralyzed, Evan!" he said, frustration creeping back. "I can't even protect myself!"
Evan took a step back, realizing the weight of Donovan's condition. "I'm not asking for protection. I just need someone who understands. I can and will work this out, Donovan- I'll figure out a way to clear my name. But I need you to believe I'm not the monster they're making me out to be."
After a tense pause, Donovan finally met Evan's gaze, uncertainty mingling with the flicker of that old, familiar trust. "If you're really telling the truth... then what are you going to do?
Evan felt a surge of hope. "First, I need to lay low. I'm not gonna be able to stay in contact with you and mom for a while. I have to be careful. I cant make any rash decisions. The truth will come out, but one step at a time-"
Donovan searched his brother's face for a moment, weighing his options. "Alright. But if you're lying..."
"I'm not," Evan promised, gripping Donovan's hand tightly. "We'll get through this, I swear."
Donovan's gaze shifted to Kyra, skepticism etched in his features. "So, this is Kyra, huh? Doesn't look like a meth head."
"I'm not," she shot back defiantly, straightening her posture. "You need to believe your brother. What he's saying is true."
Donovan narrowed his eyes, pondering her words. "Yeah? And how do I know you're not just playing a part in his twisted story?"
"If it was true lying to you doesn't solve anything, it doesn't make the situation go away. He have no reason to lie to you." Kyra said
Before Donovan could respond, a nurse entered the room, her casual demeanor faltering as she caught sight of Evan and Kyra. "Oh, I didn't know you had more visitors," she said, her voice trembling slightly. A look of recognition swept over her face as she glanced at Kyra and Evan, and then her eyes widened. "are you okay, Donovan?" she asked, anxiety lacing her words.
"Yeah, they're just about to leave," Donovan replied quickly.
As she stepped away, her expression shifted to one of worry, clearly considering the news she'd seen about the wanted individuals. "I'll just-uh, excuse me for a moment..." she stammered, backing out of the room as the heaviness of the situation hung in the air.
Once she was gone, Donovan turned to Evan, fear and frustration mixing within him. "You have no idea how Essiya reacted to seeing me like this. He didn't take it well at all...how could you get yourself into this situation at a time like this? He and Mom need you-I need you! I can't believe you left me to deal with this alone!"
Evan felt a lump form in his throat, the weight of his brother's words crashing down on him. "I know, Donovan. I'm so sorry. I'm trying to handle it..."
Suddenly, a small, mechanical whirring filled the air, cutting through the tension in the room. Evan glanced toward the window just as Robot Buddy, in his fly form, zoomed in close to his ear. "The agents are here. We need to get going."
"Look," Evan said urgently, "you have to trust me. If anybody asks you anything, just say I didn't tell you anything. What you see on the news is all lies. I promise you, I'm going to fix this. But we have to move. Now."
Evan, wait!" Donovan's voice was a plea, a mix of fear and concern swirling in his eyes. But Evan had already grabbed Kyra's hand, urgency propelling them toward the bathroom with robot buddy falling behind.
In the bathroom, evan is picturing a place to teleport them to and right when he's about to speak the words to teleport.Robot buddy says something.
"Wait! I have to do something!" he said, buzzing in a hurry. Before Evan could react, Robot Buddy flew underneath the door and into the main room.
Evan's heart raced as he opened the bathroom door to see Robot Buddy hovering above Donovan, transformed back into his natural form.
"No! What are you doing? He can't see you!" Evan shouted in alarm.
"Don't worry," Robot Buddy typed out on his screen that he quickly flips to his back so Evan can see.
"I'm mirroring the images behind me, making me look invisible to Donovan."
Donovan, still feeling the tension, narrowed his eyes. "Who are you talking to? I'm paralyzed, not blind. I can see you."
"Hurry!" Evan yells at Robot Buddy. "We have to go!"
"Just ten more seconds!" Robot Buddy insisted, focused on Donovan.
Just then, a shadow swept over the room as Agent Clark burst in, a menacing look on his face. "Long time no see, Evan!"
Evan's heart raced as he stood frozen in place, torn between his instincts to protect Donovan and his desperate desire to avoid confrontation. Agent Clark's gaze was cold and calculating, the gun steady in his grip, pointed directly at his brother.
"Don't you fucking dare," Evan spat, his voice trembling with a volatile mix of anger and fear.
"Oh, I won't," Clark responded, a smirk curling his lips, the feigned friendliness in his tone dripping with malice. "If you listen to me. You have a little chat with me, and Donovan walks out unscathed. Well, rolls. Simple as that."
Evan felt the air grow heavier, every second stretching into an eternity, "Fine!" he shot back, desperate to maintain some shred of control.
"Now, that's what I wanted to hear," Clark replied, his voice oozing confidence. "You know you caused me a lot of trouble, Mr. Pettway. You and your little girlfriend are hard to find. Speaking of that little chili pepper, where is she?"
"She's not here," Evan lied, the words burning in his throat.
"Thank God," Clark sneered, a twisted glee lighting up his eyes. "I guess it's just you and me-and a vegetable."
"Who the fuck is this-" Donovan started to say, but his voice drifted off as if he were slipping into unconsciousness, confusion etching his features.
"What do you want?" Evan demanded, urgency spiking through his veins.
"You," Clark replied, ice creeping into his words.
"Why? Why me?"
"Why the fuck do you think? You are now M63. Well, a half of M63, at least."
"Half? What do you mean?" Evan's brow furrowed.
"None of your concern. What should be concerning you is your family," Clark deadpanned.
Then Clark leaned in, his voice lowering as he revealed the chilling truth. "The power you have is not yours, and it sure as hell doesn't belong to you. If you ever want to return to your normal life, you need to come with me."
"Why would I do that? What good would it even do?" Evan shot back, skepticism lacing his tone.
"For one, if you come with me, you have my word. You and your family will not be harmed." Clark's eyes narrowed, the promise hanging heavy between them.
"Why the hell would I trust a word you said?" Evan countered.
"Honestly, you have me by the balls, Mr. Pettway," Clark admitted with a twisted smile. "Oh, how I would love to kill you and your little girlfriend for putting me through this SHIT. But even me, the important, strong, handsome, smart man I am, has a boss. And orders say bring you in alive... if you comply, that is."
Evan's mind raced, trying to digest the implications of the ultimatum laid out before him. The stakes were impossibly high, his family's safety teetering on the edge of a razor blade.
"Why would I listen to you?" Evan shot back, defiance burning in his chest.
"As I said, if you do, your little news story will come out as if someone else framed you and Kyra," Clark replied, a sinister smile creeping across his face. "It was her ex-boyfriend who ran the meth lab, holding her hostage and attempting to kill you both in that house fire."
Evan paused, fists clenching at his sides. "And Kyra?"
"She will have her memories erased as a thank you for your willingness to comply," Clark continued. "And as a bonus... we will heal your brother."
"Donovan?? How?" Evan's heart raced, the prospect striking raw desperation deep within him.
"How the fuck do you think?" Clark took a measured breath, a facade of fake niceness washing over him. "With our technology. Do you really think we can erase minds but not heal injuries? Come on, Ebby. If you'd used that power to make yourself smarter, you'd know it's in your best interest to comply."
"And what if I don't?" Evan challenged, the fire in his voice unwavering.
"Then I kill your fucking BROTH-" Clark faltered, exhaling heavily. "Look, Mr. Pettway, this isn't just about you or your family. The whole world is at stake."
"How?" Evan pressed, urgency lacing his words.
"That's none of your con-"
"The fuck if it's not!" Evan yelled. "I'm in this fucking shit show, and if you want me to comply, I want to see the same from you!"
Clark paused, a calculated expression washing over his face. "Fine... Mr. Pettway. I'll tell you. How would you feel if you made a deal with someone, and they ended up fucking you over?"
"I... I don't know. Depends, I guess," Evan muttered.
"Let's say the person was someone you didn't think you could trust-like a thief and liar-but he convinces you he's changed. So, you decide to trust him. But then he ends up fucking you, anyway."
"I guess... I would be pretty pissed. I don't fucking know," Evan retorted, frustration building.
"Now let's say, after fucking you, he kills your family."
"What the fuck does this have to do with anything?" Evan demanded, the weight of Clark's words suffocating him.
Clark turned his gun away from Donovan momentarily, removing his glasses, fixing Evan with a penetrating gaze. "Do you remember, before you got your power, what I told you about our little deal with our little space friends?"
"Y...yes, I do..."
"Well, when they get here, they expect us to hold up our end of the bargain. You see, they don't trust us. They know our past-how sneaky and ruthless humans can be. But they gave us a chance, and we gave our word. And, Mr. Pettway, your word means a lot when you don't have much to offer."
Clark's voice escalated, raw emotion spilling over. "They gave us everything... EVERY FUCKING THING FOR THIS PLAN TO WORK!" He began to yell, his fury palpable. "EIGHTY FUCKING YEARS... KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION THAT NO ONE ELSE KNOWS IN THE FUCKING UNIVERSE. WITHOUT THEM, WE WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT M63! THEY COULD HAVE FORCED US TO HELP THEM, THREATENED US, BUT THEY DIDN'T. THEY CHOSE TO SHOW US THEY ARE DIFFERENT FROM HUMANS!" Clark's face flushed red, spittle flying as he worked through his rage, veins bulging in his forehead like live wires. "THEY TRUSTED US, EVAN! GAVE US A CHANCE TO NOT ONLY SHOW OUR WORTH BUT GIVE US KNOWLEDGE THAT WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO OBTAIN FOR ANOTHER 30,000 YEARS!"
"What knowledge?" Evan pressed, heart racing.
"THAT DOESN'T FUCKING CONCERN YOU!" Clark shouted even louder, the intensity of his voice making it crack. He took another deep breath, composing himself momentarily. "And what are we going to tell them? 'Oh, sorry, Mr. Alien. We messed up; believe me, we didn't mean to give our own race access to infinite power,'" he mocked, his voice dripping with childish scorn. "AND YOU THINK THEY'RE GOING TO BELIEVE THAT, KNOWING HOW HUMANS CAN BE?! NO!"
His tone shifted, a cold seriousness taking hold. "They will tear through every INCH of our planet. The whole human FUCKING RACE, tearing us apart from the cellular level until they find what they want... YOU." Clark's voice lowered, the intensity replaced by a chilling calmness. "Do you really want that to happen, Ebby? Can you live with the thought of destroying our whole civilization because of your own selfish FUCKING DESIRES?!"
Evan's breath hitched, the gravity of Clark's words sinking in. "You're framing this like it's all on me. This is bigger than just me! I'm not the only one in danger!"
"What do you think it is, huh? If you don't comply, everything we've worked for will be for nothing. You think I want to be here, threatening your family? No! "Donovan... If you can really heal him, how can I trust that?" Evan demanded, searching Clark's eyes for any hint of sincerity.
"You've seen what we can do! The technology, the power-we have the ability to fix him. But only if you're willing to play your part. If you don't, all of this is for nothing, and your brother will suffer just like the rest of us."
"What guarantees do I have?" Evan pressed, unwilling to back down. "You think I'm just going to take your word for it?"
Clark's expression hardened. "You don't need guarantees, you need to consider the bigger picture! There's a reason they chose us, Evan. But if we fail them-if you fail to cooperate-they won't just take our words lightly. They will wipe us out without batting an eye."
Evan's mind raced. The weight of his choices pressed down on him. "So, what's it going to be? You want me to just hand over my life and the lives of those I care about?"
"It may not be handing over your life," Clark replied, urgency lacing his voice. "These beings are not malicious. They want us to understand that they're different from humans. If you comply, it shows them that we're willing to trust, that we're not trying to screw them over."

Clark hesitated briefly, considering Evan's question. "They want to understand us, to prove that we can coexist. They need to know we can work together without conflict."
Just as Evan processed the information, Robot Buddy chimed in, "Now teleport!"
Clark's eyes widened in shock. "Oh no, the fuck you don't!" he exclaimed, instinctively reaching for his weapon.

He paused, frowning. "Must've dozed off. I'll assume he didn't hear too much. I guess you'll live to see another day." He turned away from Donovan, only to catch sight of a nurse peeking through the window, her eyes wide with shock from what she had just witnessed.
Clark plastered a fake smile on his face and waved her in. "Hey there! Come on in."
As she entered, he quickly shifted his tone to a more reassuring one. "So, how much did you hear?"
The nurse stammered, "N-nothing, I swear."
Clark softened his voice, trying to exude calm. "Don't worry. I'm not here to hurt you. I just need to know what you saw, okay? Those two are dangerous criminals. It's for your safety-if they find out you know too much, they might come after you and your family. I'm here to protect you, ma'am. Please, just tell me what you know."
She hesitated for a moment, weighing her options. "I heard most of everything. Is it true that aliens are coming to destroy the Earth?"
Clark shook his head, dismissing the concern swiftly. "Don't worry about that, ma'am. We're here to serve and protect, but you have to promise not to tell anyone."
"I promise," she said, her voice trembling.
Clark pointed toward Donovan, feigning concern. "You saw him, right? Through this whole ordeal, he just fell asleep out of nowhere. I'm not sure if he's okay. You should check on him."
As she turned her back to him to approach Donovan, Agent Clark pulled out his gun, a sinister smirk creeping onto his face.
"POP!"
"What a pity," he muttered. "You were a cutie."
Once they arrived to their destinat Evan looked over at Kyra, panic flooding his senses as he saw her coughing up blood. "No, Kyra, please..." He rushed to her side, his heart pounding in his chest. "I'll heal you!"
But before he could focus his thoughts, she struggled to speak, blood choking her words as tears streamed down her cheeks. "It's... okay," she gasped, each breath a battle.
"No, it's not okay!" Evan insisted, desperation gripping him. He closed his eyes, imagining her whole and healthy, willing the energy of his power to surge through him. Yet as he concentrated, his mind began to grow hazy. The image of Kyra healing slipped further away, distorted by confusion and fear swirling in his consciousness.
