Stay curious but don't seek out suffering unless you have a reasonable chance of alleviating it. I've lived the other way, feeling as though I was obligated to remain informed on all the various injustices of the world, and it made life unliveable, so I generally operate under a layer of denial. I'm aware its likely unethical, but I can't help anyone if I can't handle myself.

As Wikipedia editors know, the best assumption to make in interactions is to assume good intentions, and that is generally a principle I use when dealing with people. I try to assume people mean no harm unless they're explicitly cruel or behaving in ways that have historically preceded cruel more often than not in the past.
