Arslan Empire. Year 233. Spring
Somewhere in the southern part of the continent, there was a quiet little fishing town. And on the hill just above it stood a small wooden house.
It had a red roof, slightly uneven, and just two windows in the front. Beside it stood a giant old tree, its wide branches stretching over the whole yard like a big green umbrella. Flowers covered the hill in soft colors, swaying in the morning breeze.
From this hill, you could see everything—the green fields, the peaceful harbor with its boats, the faraway mountains, and the blue sky that seemed to go on forever.
Inside the house, a window creaked open.
A soft breeze entered, carrying the smell of sea salt and blooming herbs. The morning sun poured through, golden and warm, lighting up the face of the girl who opened it.
She had light blonde hair, tied loosely with a red ribbon. Her skin glowed softly in the sunlight, smooth and fair like porcelain. She yawned, stretched her arms, then leaned forward to sit on the windowsill.
The wind played with her hair as she looked out at the view. Her white dress fluttered quietly as she pulled out a small piece of paper and began to write. Her was handwriting neat and slow.
Dear Aris-sama,
It’s been seventeen years since you sent me to this world.
I want to say thank you again—for giving me a second chance to live another life. A really good life.
I still remember the first time we met. It felt like a dream at the time—floating in a sky full of stars, everything soft and glowing, like the inside of a snow globe.
And then you appeared. A beautiful goddess, gentle and warm, like a big sister made out of moonlight. You told me I had died. Just like that. Plain and honest. And that you were going to send me to another world.
Strangely, I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream or fall to my knees in shock. I just… looked at you and asked:
“Will there be tea and pastries?”
“Could I have a peaceful life?”
You laughed.11Please respect copyright.PENANAAl7s12K9bw
You said yes.And then you gave me a lot of skill points. You said it was a blessing from the stars. Powerful, useful… I could learn anything by using it—except for holy magic.
You looked a little embarrassed when you said that part. Honestly, I was more confused than disappointed.
But now? After living in this world for seventeen years, I think I finally understand.
The holy attribute isn’t magic. It’s a miracle of faith.11Please respect copyright.PENANACb4eursKDB
You can’t wield it if you don’t believe in the God of Light. So Aris–sama, there’s no need to feel embarrassed when you send someone else to another world next time. You’re already doing a very good job.
Anyway, I need to go to town now. Father and mother are probably waiting for me with a birthday cake. After all, it is my birthday today.
I’ll write to you again next year, Aris–sama.
She paused, watching the ink dry in the morning light. Then she smiled, and ended the letter with—
I hope wherever you are, you’re smiling too.
—Mira d’Ark
Mira watched the horizon for a while, the letter resting gently in her hands.
The sea sparkled in the morning light. A fishing boat drifted out toward the deeper waters, its white sails fluttering like wings.
From this high up on the hill, everything looked small, peaceful, and far away—like the world was holding its breath.
She let the silence stretch, letting the moment sink in.
Then, with a small sigh, she held the letter out in front of her.
A tiny flame danced at her fingertip—gentle and warm, like a candle’s kiss. With a flick of her wrist, she touched it to the edge of the paper.
The letter caught fire instantly, curling at the corners, the ink turning to smoke. But the flame was quiet and slow, almost reverent.
Ashes floated upward in the breeze, carried higher and higher into the bright blue sky.
“I hope this reaches you, Aris-sama,” Mira said softly, watching the last glowing embers disappear into the clouds. “Even if it never finds you… I hope you’ll know I’m okay.”
She smiled, resting her hands on the windowsill.
“Thank you… for everything.”
Then she stood, brushed the ash from her dress, and turned toward the little kitchen to start her day—heart light, and the morning sun still shining gently behind her.
