Ezekiel walked slowly the pavement with his heart racing and clothes drenched in sweat. His mother glanced at him with her eyebrows drooped.

"Ezekiel," his mother, Deborah, called out. "Yes, mother?" he replied.

"What do you have to say for yourself?" she questioned her eldest child. Ezekiel swallowed his lump of saliva. "I'm really sorry, mother," apologised Ezekiel. "Really, I am."
"I know you mean that, Ezekiel, " Deborah accepted. "I'm just glad things go out of hand. Otherwise, you and Yaya might get yourself killed, or worse."

"I'm ashamed of myself, mom," Ezekiel waivered in tears. "I'm sorry, mom. I let you down again." Mira hugged him tightly. "It no uses crying over spilt milk, Ez," she quoted. "What's done is done and I hope you promised me not to get into a fight ever again."

"Why were you crying, big brother?" asked Gisele. Ezekiel looked at Gisele. "It was nothing," said Ezekiel, trying to hide his feeling from Gisele. "She's too young to know about this," thought Ezekiel.

"You felt guilty because you got into trouble, right?" guessed Gisele. Ezekiel didn't look at his sister's face. "Thanks for noticing, Captain Obvious," he remarked sarcastically.

Gisele laughed cheerfully as Ezekiel glared at his little sister.
"Its funny, Ez," Gisele stated. "You and Yaya are always fighting to be the best."
He chuckled. "So what, Gisele?" Isn't it good to be competitive?"
"Really?" Gisele rolled her eyes. "Or are you saying that to cover that fact that you love Yaya?"
Ezekiel glared at Gisele coldly. Gisele tries not to notice her brother. "Love her?" asked Ezekiel. She let out a whistle, avoiding her brother's glare.

"In your dreams, sis" Ezekiel burst in laughter. "Its true, Ez," Gisele answered. "You say that now but in 7 years, you two are gonna get married and have 4 beautiful babies. Mark my words, big brother," said Gisele.

Ezekiel shrugged. "You and your ridiculous thoughts, sis" he patted his sister's head, but she pushed it away. "Don't do that, jerkface."

Ezekiel opens the front door and lay down on the soft, green couch. "Ez, Gisele," Deborah called her two children. "You two better help me in the kitchen or there will be no lunch.
Ezekiel and Gisele groaned in frustration. "Do we have to?"
"Is there a reason not to help your mother, kids?" Mira provoked a question towards them. They both shook their head. "Good," smiled Deborah. "Now get up and don't be couch potatoes. I despise their kind."

Ezekiel and Gisele walked into the kitchen and prepared the ingredients that were taken out of the fridge. Gisele took a few tomatoes and rinsed them in the sink while Ezekiel took a chopping board and sliced two button mushrooms with a medium-sized knife.
Deborah switched on the electrical stove and placed a big pot on the stove, pouring a jug of water into it. She then poured a small bowl of salt into the boiling water and tossed two bundles of the fresh pasta she bought from the grocery store.
Gisele handed her brother the tomatoes she just washed. He diced the tomatoes into small cubes and threw it into the blender, adding a pinch of salt, a tablespoon of sugar, and a quarter of a bottle of vinegar.
He mixed those ingredients into the blender and poured the mixture into a big bowl. With the pasta fully boiled, Mira transferred it into a pan and mixed it with the pasta sauce that her son made. She added pasta water to thickened the sauce and chopped mushrooms and sprinkled some basils and rosemary into the pasta for a robust flavour.
Once the cooking was done, Gisele took three plates and cutleries as Ezekiel cleared the dining table in the living room. Mira placed their lunch on the table and scooped the pasta on her plate.
Ezekiel and Gisele took their share and sat down, indulging in their meal they just made with their mother moments ago. "It's delicious, mom," praised Ezekiel.
"It's your grandmother's recipe, Ez," Mira explained. "That's why I wanted you and your sister to help me with the cooking."
"Why do we need to help cooking, mom?" asked Gisele. Ezekiel nudged her elbow, causing Gisele to tightened her lips.
Deborah chuckled. "So that this recipe will be passed down to you and your children," she answered her daughter's question. "And they will do the same with their children."
Gisele and Ezekiel nodded. "I understand, mom," acknowledged Ezekiel, who was chewing on his pasta.
"Now finish your meal and helped me with the cleaning after this, both of you," Deborah ordered. Ezekiel and Gisele nodded as they cleared their plate and got up, prepared to wash their dishes and wiped the table.
