"You good?" Dr. Toms sat down in a chair and began pecking at his laptop. Frank was up on the examination table wearing a hospital smock and his underwear.
"I'm all right," Frank said.
"Well, we'll fix that right up," Dr. Toms said, his eyes focused on the screen. Frank took his remark in stride. He guessed that the doctor hadn't registered any part of this exchange.
"Anything particular reason for you coming in today?" Dr. Toms asked, his face still staring at the laptop.
"Well, I'm going to be traveling soon," Frank said.
Dr. Toms looked up. "Oh nice! Where to?"
"Uruguay," Frank said.
"Excellent!" Dr. Toms said. "I'll file a vaccination request for the lab." He set aside his laptop and looked at Frank closely for the first time. "Uruguay! That's nice. Vacation?"
"Yes," Frank lied.
"Be good to get a break from work, am I right?" Dr. Toms asked.
"I agree," Frank said.
Frank thought about Mary, his last assignment. After the gas knocked her out, he carried her into the bedroom. He carefully took off her clothes, admiring her body, her breasts. Her bed was made, so he pulled back the blanket and sheets, then laid her down across the mattress. He took a small syringe containing a lethal dosage of tranquilizer, and injected her near her heel. He lifted her legs up.98Please respect copyright.PENANANe2jSK6Gj2
After two minutes of holding up her legs, he reached to her neck to check pulse. She was dead. He positioned her under the covers, then staged her bedroom to look normal. He grabbed her cell phone, powered it down, and put it in his pocket. He hurried out the apartment using the back stairwell exit. He had just killed somebody, and he felt disgusted.98Please respect copyright.PENANAcZpLw7GZ78
"Yeah, it'd be good to take a break," Frank said.
