Sounds. Different kind of sounds reverberate all around me, though with every passing second my deep breathing replaces them. Riffles, guns, screams and cries are slowly being left behind me as my feet agonizingly step forward. The effort I need to make in order to urge them to move was Herculean, but fortunately my destination is approaching.527Please respect copyright.PENANAGMMuwpvHGX
A battle is what I am walking away, a battle so brutal and bloody that sometimes I wonder whether the sides that are leading it are even humans. A battle that is slowly destroying the beautiful woods that surround it, swallowing them with fire and tainting them with blood. Surely, this must be by far the tragic war they had witnessed.527Please respect copyright.PENANAHUCWCvyNRR
Or perhaps it appears to me that why only because this time, it is my people that are slowly being exterminated.
The reason I am in the middle of this bloodbath escapes me now that I was gliding through the tall, haunting threes and away from it all. The words freedom and liberty roam around my mind for a bit, though I am too distracted by the beauty of the forest around me. How come that nobody noticed? Doesn't the pristine snow that cling to tall branches and glimmer in pale moonlight stop them and make them stare in awe?
Is the hatred that powerful, or the people only forgot the definition of beauty?
Stray branch tries to roll around my feet, though I am too aware of everything to allow it. My eyes, however, glide downwards and linger on the ground below my feet. Snow covers almost every part of it, but what catches my attention was the scarlet liquid tainting it.
I slowly turn my head around.
There, in the distance I see people fighting, so many yet so lesser than few hours ago. My sisters and brothers fell today, and the red trail that followed me deeper into the woods reveals a somber ending for me as well. Shaking my head, I turn back and continue onward.527Please respect copyright.PENANAXvcjqWu2kk
Whispering threes guide me forward, their branches separate to offer me harborage. I advance without actually moving, and no more than I could blink I find myself standing among what is certainly the most beautiful place I have ever seen.527Please respect copyright.PENANAPFjU1yodIm
Lulled in the heart of the forest and guarded by tall, snow-covered soldiers lay an equivalent to an oasis in the middle of the dessert. Water protrudes from the strong, glistening rock and melodically cascades into a small pond. Everything is dressed in beautiful shades of grey and white, so pristine and pure that the breath is knocked out of my lungs.
So I obey the whispering of the threes and water and slowly lay down. I'm vaguely aware of the pain that is slowly spreading through my body, and the red liquid that pours out of my stomach; but my surroundings overlaps them.
The damp ground below me hugs me, coldness slowly seeping in my body in order to numb the pain. The battle as if disappeared, taking away all the gruesome sounds it consisted off and leaving me with nothing but silence.527Please respect copyright.PENANAPEsj8yw7IR
Peaceful, comforting silence.
Stars glisten over the vast, dark blanket above me emitting warmth that the sane part of my brain knows couldn't be real. Their smiling faces twinkle in the night, getting closer and closer to me until I blink, and they transform into fireflies dancing all around.
There is a part of my brain that urges me to open my eyes, to truly open my eyes and admit that everything around me is nothing but a hallucination my mind is projecting. To realize that I'm laying in the midst of the cold forest, slowly dying alone.
But then a shadow catches the attention of my right eye, and I agonizingly turn my head in its direction. A silent sob shakes my jaw, and tears die on the tip of my mouth but nothing can't prevent my lips tilting upwards. I want to say something, to ask him how he came to be here and now, but I'm afraid that if I do so he would disappear. He too, remains silent though his eyes speak volumes.527Please respect copyright.PENANAS2S0DqoQTq
''See,'' I could hear his warm voice in my mind, echoing around my scull, ''I promised I would come for you.''527Please respect copyright.PENANAjeV0O0ghAB
The control over my body escaped me somewhere around the time the fireflies appeared, and in its stead my soul smiled at him. Steadily, the setting around us changes, and colourful flowers boldly penetrate the icy snow, offering us a soft, fragrant bed.527Please respect copyright.PENANAzQ9Uw4gI8v
I couldn't pinpoint when or how, but finally I find myself standing next to him, my barefoot feet resistant against the pristine surface, the battered and dirty clothes replaced by glowing white dress, my soul light as a butterfly and my heart at peace.527Please respect copyright.PENANAmYEQHklq8v
And as I walk away, lead by a man my heart loved with fervour, a lifeless, cold body of a girl remains laying in the midst of the forestbro, forgotten and uncared; her brain finally free, heart finally blind to all that's evil.527Please respect copyright.PENANAfcBKvRRH8c
She was smiling.527Please respect copyright.PENANAn1Bf8HaBhU
