After The Picking, a ceremonial dinner was to take place for all the couples at the fanciest restaurant in town and it was all paid for by the elders. They wouldn't be there but they still paid for it.
I hopped into my moms car, Henry not far behind. I could tell my mom was holding back from asking about Abby. Well, she was holding back, until now.
"So! Tell me about Abby! Is she nice? She looks beautiful! You must be so happy that you're paired with her. What about you Henry? What about your girl? You guys look so cute together!" She shot out quicker than a bullet.
"Woah! Mom, slow down. Abby is nice, she's cool." I said, trying to calm her down. She nodded and started the car. She bit her lip, trying to keep from spewing out more words.
I suddenly got the courage to tell her something I've been meaning to for a while.
"But mom?" I asked. She looked at me through the rear view mirror. "Yes honey?" I took a deep breath.
"I'm gay, I can't date Abby. And she's gay too. I'm sorry." I closed my eyes, and suddenly felt the car swerve. "If you won't date her, then you can't be alive." My eyes widened and she swerved the car into the ocean and-
"Yes honey, you called?" I blinked, realizing that was a daydream. I looked at Henry, who looked concerned.
"Um, thank you. For everything." She smiled, and kept on driving. I looked at my palms which were sweaty and shaking for the daydream. I couldn't tell her. I just couldn't.
We arrived at the restaurant a little bit early, and took our seats. Henry had to sit with his significant other but still at our table, while the parents talked at another. I sat in a seat with my name on a piece of paper and waited. Henry sat across from me.
"This feels like a weird version of the cafe, doesn't it?" He asked. I shrugged, biting my lip. It did, and it made me blush. He looked amazing, his muscles flexing in the tux. It was a slight turn on.
Other people started arriving, and Abby sat next to me a couple minutes later. "Hey." I greeted. She rolled her eyes. "How romantic of you." She teased. I smiled. She seemed really relaxed and chill. I liked that.
On the other hand, Henry did not look like he enjoyed the girl that was picked for him. She seemed too preppy, and had no chill. I was tapped on the shoulder by Abby.
"Hey, Henry looks like he wants to kill himself. I wouldn't blame him. That girl is so annoying." She said. I looked back at Henry and chuckled. He looked miserable. He saw me and glared. I stuck my tongue out at him.
I was so gonna have fun with this.
If looks could kill, I'd be all the way in the cemetery by now. Abby also stuck her tongue at him and he scowled.
"Hey! Are you even listening to me?" Annoying girl who's name I forgot asked. Henry sighed. "No, I wasn't. Now will you shut up, you talk to much." He said. My jaw dropped. I know he insulted her before, but this time I saw it.
She looked furious. "No! I will not! Don't be so rude! Ugh, I wish I was paired with someone different." She yelled. "Me too." Henry sighed. She gasped and slapped him.
Everyone quieted down and looked over at her. Henry, although was grabbing his cheek, still looked bored. Annoying girl just stomped off, probably to the bathroom.
Chatter started up again and Henry looked at me. "What just happened?" I asked. He shrugged. "Beats me. Not the first time this has happened though." He said. I laughed. "Why am I not surprised?" I asked, making him chuckle.
He winked at me. "You still like me." He teased. I looked away, a blush on my cheeks. Abby poked me where said blush was. "Are you blushing?" She asked. I turned back to her. "Well-I- you see-" she cut me off.
"You so are! Oh my god, you like him! I ship it!" I covered her mouth. I looked at Henry who was too busy talking to the waitress. "Shut up Abby! Don't be so loud." She licked my hand. "Ew!" I took my hand away and wiped it on my shirt.276Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbdDGtRbdAN
"Sorry sorry, but I can't help it." She whispered. "Well try." I whispered back. The waitress took our drink orders, and went away. I sighed.
This was gonna be a long dinner.ns184.108.40.206da2
