I slowly slid out from under the covers, gran had made me and Noah go to bed as soon as we finished eating dinner, saying that we could look at the box the next day. But I got off my bed and pulled a cardigan over my pajamas then crept to the wall next to my desk. I put my ear against the wall straining my ears to see if I could hear anything. When I was positive gran was asleep I slowly opened the door, and walked down the stairs. On the table was the box from Mum, I opened it and took out the necklace, I looked at the amulet that was on the end of the chain, squinting to see in the darkness. It was a crescent moon but had another pendant attached to it, a tree that looked like it represented the 4 seasons.
“What are you doing downstairs?” a voice asked behind me
My head snapped up and I spun around, and let out a relieved breath “ Noah! You scared me” I whispered
He smiled then asked “So what are you doing?”
“Just looking through what Mum gave” I replied waving him over. He made his way to my side, then stared at the pendant for a few seconds.
“What do you think it is?” he whispered
I shrugged “I have no idea, but it looks beautiful.” Noah nodded slowly, still staring at the necklace before finally looking up at me.
“Is there anything else in the box?”
“No.” I said pulling the box off the table and showing it to him, “but there is this weird compartment that looks like where another necklace should be.” Noah frowned at the compartment.
“Is this where your necklace was” he asked pointing to the compartment on the opposite side of the box where I had found Mum’s amulet.
“Yeah”
“That’s weird” mumbled Noah
“What is?” I asked curiously. Noah’s eyebrows were scrunched together like they usually are when he’s thinking.
“Where did grann say she put this box?” Noah asked completely ignoring my question
“In the attic.” Before I could ask him any more questions, he turned around and rushed up the stairs. “What are you doing” I hissed as I raced after him. He didn’t answer, but I was surprised when Noah walked to the opening to the attic. Noah and I broke rules all the time, but the only one we didn’t dare break was the rule our grandmother put, which was to never, ever under any circumstances go into the attic. Noah and I had surprisingly listened to her and hadn’t even thought about trying to go to the attic. Noah threw open the latch to the small door then pulled down the fold up ladder and walked into the attic, of course I followed him.
“Woah” Noah and I whispered in union. Everywhere we looked there were labeled boxes barely leaving us a path to walk through. “Look for anything that says Darren,” he ordered. I did as he said and we spent about half an hour looking through the boxes before I found one labeled Darren Willson.
“I found it.” Noah came rushing over and together we opened the box eager to see what we would find inside. We looked through the box finding little trinkets before Noah came across a velvet box. “Open it,” I said eagerly.
“I knew it” Noah murmured as he opened the box
“What is it?” I was annoyed that he wasn’t telling me what he found. Noah turned the box around and I sucked in a breath.
Noah grinned at her and proudly said “It’s Dad’s Amulet!”24Please respect copyright.PENANAzw4nzduLhR
