All around was chaos, the sense of hopelessness was thick in the air. The promise of some time home to any survivors from this mission gave everyone something to hold onto.
A shrill cry rang out, and that was the signal they'd all been waiting for. All at once, almost 100 soldiers pounced out of they're hiding spots, weapons at the ready, they all charged menacingly towards they're enemy. One by one, the american soldiers were struck down brutally.
What the enemy didn't think to prepare for, was miss Onyx Lennox silently and swiftly making her way towards the enemies leader. Once close enough, Onyx quickly aimed her shotgun, and pulled the trigger.
BANG!! his head exploded, and a retreat call was made for the enemy to fall back, but a few reluctants made haste and shot a few soldiers, Onyx one of them.
Thank God he only shot her in the shoulder.
She would live.
The only thing running through her mind should have been relief, happiness even.
But no.
It was fear,
Anger,
Defiance,
And a desire to know..
Why?

Golden rays of sunlight sturred me from my small cat nap as the large, cobalt blue military bus slowly came to a halt at the designated location. Said location was an old boardwalk made as a memorial after a gruesome battle was fought in 1701 on the land the boardwalk was built on. It was a bloody and horrific battle, called the Battle of Mercy. I began the long walk to my uncle's house.
Once there, I began walking up his driveway when I noticed a black GMC Topkick. "Nice.." I mumble. Once I was at my uncle's door step, I went to knock, only for the door to open. Revealing my uncle who had his back to me as he spoke to his wife. "Yeah I love you too, Sarah. I'll be back." He says. He turned around nearly bumping right into me. "Awe. Leaving so soon, Lenny?" I say in a teasing voice. His jaw drops for a second, so I use my finger to close his mouth. "Don't let that hang open, you'll catch bugs." I say, smiling softly. "ONYX!!!" he yells, tackling me to the ground in a hug. "Heh. Missed ya too, uncle Will." I say, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist. "Onyx?" Sarah's voice calls from the front porch. "He's having a moment aunt Sarah." I say.
Will makes sure to ask me something before letting me go though. "You're in control of your powers, right??" He asked. "Yes, why?" I ask. He stands up, offering me a hand and pulling me to my feet.
I brush the dust off of me. "Meet your baby cousin, Annabelle." Will says, and I look up to see Sarah standing on the porch, holding a small baby girl in her arms. "Your fucking with me." I say, slowly walking up the porch steps. "I'm afraid not, Onyx. She has your middle name." Sarah says. "Annabelle Raye Lennox.." I say, placing a hand on the baby girl's cheek. "She looks just like you did when you were a baby, Nyx." Will says.
"I'll be damned.." I mumble, I hug Sarah, and then hesitantly take Annabelle into my arms, cradling her like she was the most precious thing in the world. And to me, in that moment, she was. She opened her eyes, revealing eyes like mine. Two ice blue hues that could cut anyone like a knife if not handled gently. Only my left eye was light grey, from where I was exposed to cybertronian technology when I was 4 and my mother was being reckless. "She's beautiful.." I murmur, looking up to see my aunt and uncle over by the GMC Topkick. "She's even got my eyes." I say, smiling. She sneezes, and then coos at me. She lifts her stubby baby hands to my face, and grasps my glasses, pulling them down the bridge of my nose. I giggle gently, and bounce her softly in my arms.
After holding baby Annabelle for a little bit, Will challenged me in the shooting range. "Sure your okay with your truck being this close while shooting shit?" I ask, and he laughs. "My truck is fine, Nyx. Now, let's see what you've got." he says, and tosses me a gun. "Take it all the way apart, put it back together the right way, and then shoot every target without missing." Will says, and I smirk. "Alright, William. I see what game your playing at." I say, and laugh a little. With a couple flicks of my wrists, the gun is taken completely taken apart, and with a few swift movements, I put the gun back together correctly and then without needing to focus too much, shot every single target without missing once. "Damn.. If I remember correctly, that's better than last time I saw you, Onyx." Will says. "Well, I did complete my Weapons Specialists training and I am a little bit older now, uncle." I say, and look back at his truck, the feeling of being watched made me uneasy, but I shook it from my shoulders, and strolled back into the house, where I helped Sarah make homemade Hamburger Helper.
