I am what humans might call, an angel. Although I don't know what I am anymore. I guess, you could say I was once. An angel. Back when I didn't have a name, when I spoke to beings who lived more than a few hundred years, when I only lived to serve humans, help them, and watch over them. But now, Its a bit different.
The way it started out wasn't out of the ordinary for us. Just another errand to do in the mortal world. I was sent to go assist a mortal with a problem. It was my first ever assignment ever since I was created. All of the young ones are said to go through this and I was no exception.
It was simple enough really. I had gathered some advice from my older siblings about how to go about this objective. If you are wondering what I was feeling then, I honestly don't know. Angels are not briefed about emotions and other things mortals tend to make a fuss about. We are only told to do what we can to assist them. Though we do know the basics of it. I mean, we need to understand even just a little bit to help no?
Anyway, So, as I said, it started out as a normal right of passage for a young one like me. Then, the day of departure arrived. We were bid goodbye by our elders, given nice words of encouragement by our older siblings. But then, this is when the weird part happened. As we were about leave, A sudden voice came barging into my head.
"you don't belong here."
And I fell. I went straight through our non existent floor and was just falling. I didn't quite know what to do then. It was a foreign feeling to me. Someone who had been created to do nothing but follow the wishes of others was with no consent falling to the mortal world. It was then, the very first emotion I ever felt.
Fear.
I screamed. I closed my eyes, hoping to God that this was not real. Though it was very, very. Real. In my hand, I suddenly felt something. I clutched it tightly and opened my eyes. It was a black feather. A black feather....
Boom. My train of thought was cut off by my abrupt landing. And I blacked out.
Waking up, I looked around wondering what just happened. Was this really supposed to happen? was this some kind of new process that I was not informed about?
"Hey, uhm.. excuse me, but who are you..?" A voice asked.
I slowly look towards the source of the voice, and it looked to be... a human... male? can he see me?
"are... you talking to me...?" I hesitantly inquired.
"Yeah. I am. Who are you miss?" He asked talking as if I was an infant child.
"uh... I... I don't.. know..." I said truthfully. Well I didn't really have a name so, of course I didn't know.
"Oh. Well, I'm guessing you also don't know why you suddenly fell from out of no where into the ditch we were currently filling up with trash... do you."
I shook my head. I didn't. I don't know what exactly is happening right now honestly. Then, I suddenly remembered.
"The feather! the black feather! did I have it when I came here?" I asked urgently. That feather was familiar.
"Oh. you mean that bottle you had with the feather cap thingy? It's next to you."
Bottle..? what bottle?
I look beside me, and I see a clear glass bottle with a black feather stuck in the cap. I pick it up and examine it further. Was this part of our objective? I look up at the male and was about to ask him where and why I was sent here when I suddenly felt dizzy. His voice became slurred and then, it became black.
I woke up once again, laying on the floor. or was it nothing..? everything around me was pitch dark and I could notice the familiar feeling slowly seeping in. I was scared.
"H-hello..?" I said, as I listened to it echo through the darkness. Where was I? why was this happening? did I somehow do something wrong?
"child."
I whipped my head to every direction trying to find anything. Anyone.
"please. Please help me..!" I shout to nothingness. This is not right! this isn't what they told me! "please tell me what is happening!" I shout.
"this wasn't what was intended for you. But it seems there isn't much of a choice anymore. Remember that this wasn't what we wanted. You need to stay there. you need to become one of them. Those mortals. You need to observe them, live like one of them, and learn through their everyday lives. And through that you will find your way back home."
"but still..! I don't understand.."
"All will be understandable in due time. We will watch over you. Know that... This is your calling."
And with that. I woke up. Again.
