Chapter 4 -
After the applause, we were ordered to get seated. The Headmaster had taken the Headmistress’s hand and left the room. The boys had migrated from their side of the room and transferred to the girls that had captured their attention.
The boy that I couldn’t appear to take my eyes away from had stood encircled by girls that spotted him. And that was a lot of girls.
“Hey,” Grace stood in front of me blocking my view of the boy, “Are you ok.”
This is properly her twentieth time asking that question.
“Look, Grace, I’m fine,” I replied.
I glanced over her shoulder and watched as a young boy that resembled around 13 or 14 years old marched toward her. He stops a foot away and smiles with perfect teeth at me. Grace turned around and met his stare.
“Hey,” he says at her, running his hands through his blond curls.
“Hello,” Grace answered sweetly and he beams.
“What’s your name,” he says leaning closer to her.
I grab Grace’s arm and push her back. The guy glared at me.
“Angel, it’s fine,” Grace whispers to me, “he just wants to talk.”
She stares up at me, her blue eyes pleading. My grip on her loosens and I sigh when she takes his hand. I guess I can’t protect her forever. But she’s only eleven. They walk away from me with Grace laughing at something he said. I felt so bitter, tears started building in my eyes. I take deep breaths to calm myself.
My view of the green-eyed boy was free. I watch as he stares at the girls with a tight dark expression. Some of the girls took the warning and began to wander elsewhere. I find myself smiling at the fact that he wasn’t interested.
Like he sensed my stare, his sharp eyes snapped to me. I hold my breath and he smirks. He slices through the crowd and starts approaching me. Okay, it’s time to get out of here. I was close to the door, so I made my way to the hall.
“Wait,” he pleads with his annoyingly stunning voice.
I raise my pace and he walks quicker. Please stop following me. With determination, I spring to a run. I hardly covered three feet until strong arms thrust me against the hallway wall.
“What the hell,” I say, startled.
His strong body was against me, trapping me to the wall. My heartbeat so loudly I was afraid it was going to shatter. He’s extremely close.
“Where do you think you’re going?” He whispers.
His breath washes over me and I shivered. I placed my hand on his chest and hesitated for a minute at what my fingers were pressing. His chest was hard with muscles yet soft at the same time. I can feel the warmth of his body within his shirt. Ugh, what’s wrong with me? I pushed hard on him, but might as well be trying to move a building, he didn’t budge.
“Stop trying to push me away,” he sighed.
I looked up at his intense eyes and lost my breath. His eyes seemed green from a distance. But up close I noticed that it was turquoise. Still holding his stare, he slowly removed one of his hands from my arms and placed a strand of hair that escaped my braid under my ear. His fingers felt tender and soft on my forehead. I contained a sigh that itched to come out.
“You’re beautiful,” he says.
His voice sounds so sincere, I despised myself for believing him. That was all it needed for me to find my voice.
“Get. Off. Of. Me,” I snarled.
“Oh, come on, gorgeous,” he says almost laughing, “ most girls would kill to be in your position.”
I brush his hands off my cheek.
“I’m not most girls,” I growled.
“No, you're not,” he says, searching my eyes, “You’re certainly not.”
His hold on me releases and he withdraws.
“Angel?” Grace’s soft voice appears from behind him.
He moved out of the way and her extended eyes landed on me against the wall.
“Angel,” she glanced from the boy to me and back again, “Umm, you okay?”
I nod my head at her.
“Angel,” the boy whispered my name like a song.
I pushed myself from the wall and grabbed Grace’s arm.
“Come on, Grace,” I say.
“Wait,” she says.
“Why?” I ordered.
She turns around to the boy.
“May you please state your name,” she says.
Anger begins raging in me. Why would she want that for?
He pleasantly smiled.
“Certainly,” he glimpses at me, “my name is Lucifer.”
“Ok, you got his name,” I say, grabbing her arm again, “Now let’s go.”
Grace gives him a wave, which he returns smiling down at her.

-----------------------------------------------
“He has pretty eyes,” Grace says when we reach our room.
I sat on my bed with gray sheets and scowled at her. Our room is identical to all the girls. The wall of the room is creamy and has white panels covering the bottom half. Grace is sitting in the center of the room where there is a gray couch behind a small table. To be honest, the room is horribly decorated.
“I didn’t notice,” I lied.
“Liar,” she says, knowing me too well, “you want him.”
My eyes widened. I open my mouth to scream that I didn’t. But nothing comes out. Do I desire him? I shut my eyes and panic began expanding in my chest. No, no, no. That can’t be happening.
“Angel, it’s ok,” Grace’s voice sounds far away.
My eyes snapped open.
“No, Grace, it’s not ok,” I shrieked.
The room spins while reality hits. I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off of him. My heart behaves strangely when he smiles at me. I can’t let this happen. No, I won’t let this happen.
Grace gets up from the couch and sits beside me.
“I know you’re scared,” she says gently.
“No, I’m not,” I say, certain.
My first response was horror, but that was because I wasn’t sure what to do. But presently, I understand what I need to do and I won’t allow this to go any farther.
“There you guys are,” a girl’s voice disrupts the quietness.
“What do you want, Rosaline?” I replied, staring at a redhead girl with bright eyes.
“The food is being served in the cafeteria,” she says, seeming perplexed at my cold response.
“Thank you, Rose,” Grace replied before I said anything harsh.
We both got up and followed the redhead to the cafeteria. When we entered the room we found the chairs rearranged. There was a table in the middle of each of the two chairs facing each other. My eyes wandered and I knew exactly what they were scanning for. And then I found him. I was surprised to see him sitting by himself. Why didn’t anybody sit with him? I look around the room and find couples talking and laughing with each other.
Rose left Grace and me standing at the door and rushed to her awaiting partner. My gaze once again moved to the midnight hair boy. He then detected me. With a serious expression, he designated for me to sit in front of him. I raise my eyebrow at him and shake my head. For a second, I thought I noticed a flash of irritation wash over his burning eyes.
“Hey, Grace,” I say looking at the small girl who was already smiling at the golden-haired boy’s empty seat.
“Umm?” she replied, occupied.
“Would you mind sitting with Lucifer?” I say, wishing she would say yes.
She stares up at me amused.
“I thought you said he doesn’t scare you,” she teased.
I sigh, knowing I lost this one.
“Grace!” The gold boy said, raising his hands to get her attention.
Grace whispered “Sorry,” and walked to the boy.
I grunt and reluctantly walk toward the only unoccupied seat. I tried not to look at him but it was really difficult. His eyes gazed me up and down as I approached. I can feel my heart raising speed. Absurd heart. His deep eyes beam up at me when I touch his table.
“Angel,” he said my name softly, “sit with me.” His voice did weird things to me inside. I let out a light sigh.
“It appears I don’t have much of a choice,” I whisper under my breath.
He chuckles. The response was so unexpected, it startled me. And that throws him laughing. His laugh was effortless and I found myself smiling as I looked at his gorgeous eyes foul of amusement.
He eventually quit laughing, I didn’t want him to. I take a seat. His legs were so long, so when I sat down our knees met under the table. The warmth radiating from him was suffocating.
“Am I warming up to you, Angel?” he muttered, leaning closer to me.
Does he mean literal? because I can barely breathe from the heat arising from him. His hands stretch out to touch me and I lean back. So he lets it drop and he stares at me with annoyances growing in his turquoise eyes.
“You irritate me, Angel,” he says matter of factly.
“Good,” I replied with a smile.
He smirks and shakes his head. Plats of food were then placed in front of us. The smoke comes from the warm plates of rice and steak. Wow, where did they get them? Ever since I can remember we ate bread and water. If we are lucky, a bowl of soup.
“Where did you get this?” I asked the woman who presented the food.
I was so glued to the food I didn’t notice the change in the atmosphere. Lucifer was staring blankly at the woman and she looked back at him with a smile playing on her lips. Lucifer’s jew was tight and he looked like he wasn’t breathing. This is my first time seeing him so uncomfortable.
“The gentleman bought it with them,” she answers, still studying at Lucifer.
I glared at her and turned back and my sudden rage burst.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING STILL STANDING HERE!” I growled.
The entire room transforms into silence, all pairs of eyes shifted to our table. The woman and Lucifer stare at me in shock. Lucifer immediately turned from confusion to amused in a heartbeat.
“You sure do have a temper, don’t you?” the woman says.
I glare at her. She brushes her brown hair back and gazes at Lucifer, who was still staring at me, and walks away. The room got over their confusion and started eating. I look down at my food embarrassments. Again my rage gets the best of me.
“Angel.”
I refused to look up at him.
“Angel,” he says, with a hint of laughter in his angelic voice, “look at me, Angel.”
I shake my head firmly. He chuckles and quickly masks it with a cough. I stiffened when he held my chin and gently lifted my head. We stare at each other. Him biting his lips to stop himself from laughing and me looking up at his eyes, trying my best to show any emotions. He softly strokes his thumb on my chin. A chilling warmth wraps me. I wanted to push my head back, but his intense turquoise eyes froze me.
“You’re cute when you are jealous,” he beamed.
I shook my head in disbelief, he thought my sudden anger was jealousy.
“I wasn’t...I mean,” I struggled to get the words out, It wasn’t jealousy, right?

“It’s fine, Angel,” he whispered, “It’s ok to be jealous.”
I quickly push my head back and scowl at him.
“It wasn’t jealousy,” I growled, louder than I intended.
The room became still again and then went back to normal. He leaned back with a sigh.
“Just eat, Angel,” he says pointing at the plate of food in front of me.
Was he seriously mad at me right now? I grabbed the fork on the table and ate my first bite in silence. The stake felt like heaven in my mouth. I have never eaten anything so good in my life. I eat the whole thing without a pause. When I finally looked up, I found him staring at me with a sober expression that I couldn’t seem to understand.
Before I could ask what his problem was, a chilling loud voice interrupted the cafeteria racket.
“Miss Angel,” the headmaster called my name, “can you please come to me.”
My heart accelerated with alarm. I pulled in a breath and slowly got up. Lucifer quickly got up with me and walked beside me. I shake my head at him.
He tangles my hand with his and leans close to my ear.
“I’m coming with you,” he whispered seriously.
I try to pull my hand out of his hard and warm one. But he tightens his hold. I gave up with a grunt and we started to walk to the front of the room where the Headmaster stood with the Headmistress by his side.
