Her honey coloured hues stared down at me, her blonde hair cascading forwards. "It's going to be ok little one." Her words were sweet but her eyes held so much hatred. Sniffles and hiccups left my 8 year old self as I blinked up at her. "Take the girl." The woman commanded watching as a large beta male hauled me gently over his shoulder. "Are you sure Luna?" He asked as the door to my bedroom flung open. "She is one of us now Nigel."
Blood stained the halls, the bodies of my pack strewn across the floor. My father's head spiked next to his throne where his body sat. I screamed out at the sight of it, my mother next to him blood streaming from her forehead. "Momma!!" "Don't look child, she is no longer your mother, I am."
10 years later
"Catch up Reyna! C'mon you can do better than that!" My jaw clenched, fists tight against my side as he teased me, running circles in his dark grey wolf form, yelling words into my head through the link. "Awww, how are you going to be Luna if you don't even have your wolf yet?" The puny human feat stomped against the ground while my attempt to catch up failed. "I'm not going to be your Luna, Jackson." He stopped dead, forcing my body to slam straight into his.
"Don't say that." He growled hovering over me as I backed up into the floor. "I know what I want and I will have it. I have known you would be my mate from the moment we met, you just need to get over your dislike of my mother and we can finally be together. I mean she did save you. She took you in, raised you. So what she killed your birth pack, they were bad they deserved it."
My pale skin crinkled around my eyes a frown forming. "They did not deserve it!, It's not going to happen so just leave it! I wont marry the male who's mother destroyed my pack!" Jackson huffed placing his paws to each side of my shoulders. "THIS is your pack. You belong HERE by my side. I won't listen to this bull anymore. Get over it and accept your fate!!"
He moved away shifting into his human form, his dark brown fluffy hair swaying in the breeze. I stood up, following him back. I did like him, but love? I could never love him. I was groomed to be his mate, an Alpha pup for another Alpha pup, we were brought up being told that we would rule this pack some day rule the entire race of Werewolves, but my gut told me differently. He wasn't mine, I could feel it.
My eyes stared at the grass as we walked back to the castle. Wolves of lower ranks bowed, not daring to disrespect the heirs, Prince and Princess though we didn't act as you'd expect royalty to act, we were more modern. Jackson snarled at one young male who looked up at me, my friend in secret, Adam. He stared him down until the boy was shivering. To say Jackson was possessive was an understatement. The dark haired King to be forcefully grabbed my wrist, pulling me to stand in front of him, so he could watch me, protect me.
I pretended that I didn't hear him sniff my hair. I was used to it, wolves were often like this, it was in our nature to be protective of our mates and our children, we could not live without our packs and our family dynamic's, well most couldn't. I wore a set of expensive yoga pants and a crop top, my black hair pulled up into a long ponytail. He wore red shorts, werewolves tore their clothing apart if they shifted dressed so we often stored clothing close to our borders and kept it in back packs. Jackson was often caught in shorts and not much else, he was very active and didn't like to stay in human form for too long.
His fingers drifted up my bare arms, causing Goosebumps along my skin. He was asserting that I was his by acting in a romantic, possessive way. He was worried that I'd find someone else and runaway if he dropped the ball. And I would if the chance arrived. I trained a lot, we both did, we needed to be strong for the pack. If I was not out training with him I was training with Beta Nigel. He was often kind even though I had shown pure hatred towards him. To him the massacre of my pack was warranted, I never found out why it happened though, they refused to tell me.
We walked towards the north wing of the castle, my bedroom close by and his right next door. Demeter's golden eyes reached mine as she stood outside of her own chambers, a smile of pride on her thin lips. I struggled to breath around the Luna, the Queen, she made me feel homicidal. Jackson straightened out, hands clutching my arms, she liked to see us acting like a pair. It freaked me out. "Young love, how adorable." I held my tongue as his nails pinched my skin. "Just think, the moment your wolf arrives you will both be wed."
My stomach swirled with nerves. I prayed for my wolf to stay away, just until the right moment where I could get out of his tight grasp. "Maybe she will arrive tonight and show you to your mate. We mustn't keep the prince waiting." God how I wanted to spit in her face and bite down on her neck! "But what if he isn't my mate?" I asked, eyes on wooden the floor, his nails inching deeper into my skin.
Her expression was cool, almost unreadable. "Well, I have no doubt that he is and if by chance, a very small chance that he isn't then you will marry anyway. There are no other Alpha females of age for our prince, it must be you." My eyes pinched closed for a short moment as I tried to breathe. His nails left my skin finally, a chuckle on his tongue. "See, it is our fate to be together, I will reject any female for her, my chosen mate or not!"
The Queen's cold finger's reached out to cup around my face. "Do not fret my love, I am sure he is your mate you do not have to worry about a thing, now go get dressed we will celebrate your nineteenth birthday in style." Love spewed from her expression, I was a daughter to her, the thought made me sick, how could I ever love her after she destroyed my family. She was not my mother, she never would be.
I held my expression as I often did around her, the last time I showed her my true feelings I was beaten into submission, beaten until I loved her, well even as a child I could fake it. I would never forget the lash against my young skin, her eyes filled with fire and only cooling once I called her mother and cuddled into her.
The need to bite her hand off crushed my spirit but I held on. "Alright go on then, get ready darlings." Her hands dropped to her sides, honey hues glancing over her shoulder as her son pulled me away towards my room. Once she was gone I could breath again. "I don't know what your problem is, my mother has never been anything but loving to you." I didn't rebut him I just slammed the door shut in his face going to get ready for the feast.
