"I've shown you guys The Bancroft library, Greek Theatre, Physics North, and The Sather Hall. I know you guys' legs are aching so let's all take a break and we'll move on to The Wheeler Auditorium." The campus guide, whose name is Sarah, says. For three straight hours, we've been walking the campus, looking at every hall, auditorium, and library. After the first hour, I wanted to crawl back into the bed and never get out. Currently, we're in the quad.
Before the campus tour, we discussed campus life, talks of organizations, and safety. During the safety part, I dozed off a bit. We know the basics if someone asks "Do you want some candy?", or "Get in my car.", you say no and run away. Also, don't get too drunk at a party, and if you do, have a DD. That's a designed driver, which I won't be needing.
The most impressive place we went to today was Sather Tower. I've always seen pictures of it online, but the pictures didn't do it justice. It's a bell tower with four clocks on it. Most people call it the Campanile. It was given to Jane K. Sather by her husband. Maybe he cheated on her and needed to make a grand gesture, so making a clock tower says, "Hey, I'm sorry for cheating on you, please forgive me."
When Bridget first came to Berkeley, I wanted her to send me a picture of it. Instead, she told me to get in the car and come see it myself. I, then, hung up on her and took a jog. She knows how I feel about driving, the fear that it sets inside of my body. Why can't she just deal with it? My parents have, and I have too.
Trust me, they did their fair share of pushing me. My dad even faked an injury so I could drive him to the hospital, but I saw a bit of ketchup, that was supposed to be blood, drip on the carpet. My mother exchanged some inappropriate words with him that day.
I dig in my black crossbody, open up my granola bar and take a huge bite out of it. The only place, besides the Sather Hall, that would be worth seeing is the cafeteria. I hope that's on the list next, this granola bar isn't going to hold me off for long. Besides me, there are 12 other people on this campus tour.
No one brought up any questions when Sarah asked, "Does anyone have questions?", except for an annoying brunette girl named Jessica Saltzman. She kept asking dumb questions like, "Do you need a certain library card to get into each library?", "Can anyone reserve special books and papers?", and "Is the school strict with a curfew?". Everybody kept silently groaning because she was holding up the tour.
As the rest of us pile on the little concrete bench, Jessica's off talking to Sarah. I hope I don't have a class with her. My teeth clamp onto nothing when I lean my chin out for my granola bar. Wow, I ate this like in five seconds. We have to go by the cafeteria, I might faint from the heat and excess walking. Also, I'm going to make Bridget take me to the store so I can buy a scooter or something, there's no way I can do all this walking.
As I look closely at my doc martins, a tall shadow looms in front of me. Tilting my head up, I see Daniel. His curly hair is braided back, no more dirt on his body, it's now replaced with clean chocolate skin. Those dazzling teeth of his flash a smile while I soak in his outfit. His looks remind me of Algee Smith.
"What the hell are you wearing?" I stifle down a laugh. His shorts are so short I'm surprised his dick isn't hanging out. Paired with the shorts are a sleeveless shirt and spiky shoes.
He looks down at his fit like he's seeing it for the first time. "I never told you, huh?"
"No."
"I'm on the Berkely track team." He shows me the logo on his shirt.
My eyebrows lift with amusement, "I didn't know you were good at something. This is something I must ponder on." I do the same position from that famous sculpture "The Thinker" by Auguste Rodin. He rolls his eyes and shoves me over so he can sit beside me.
"How's the tour going?" His eyes squint from the bright sun blaring our way.
"Tiring." I groan. "But the best part is that I got to see Sather Tower."
He chuckles, "I had a feeling you would like that?"
I give him an incredulous look, "Really? How."
He scratches his head, "You just look like you- oh I don't know like old architecture or something. When I drove you to the house yesterday, your eyes couldn't look away from the old buildings here in California. No one looks at California like that except for people who love infrastructure, or have never gone on vacation." I take a moment to think about this. He paid attention to me, hope I didn't make any weird faces when he was gawking at me.
I rub off the nice comment with sarcasm, "Oh my god, I heard of college kids getting stalked, and ending up dead. Should I call the Dean right now and have you arrested."
He shakes his head, "You wish. My major is psychology. I'm into observing and analyzing people. What they like, what makes them tick. It's my thing." He shrugs his shoulders. "What's your major?"
"Chemistry."
His eyes bulge, "Oh shit. You must be a math and science geek, there's no way I could do that. Math gives me a migraine." He sounds impressed with me. "What job do you want with his smarty degree?"
I nudge his shoulder, "Be quiet, many people major in Chemistry. I want to be a Forensic scientist."
"Now that seems like a cool job. Those are the people who examine evidence at a crime scene, right?" I nod. "Mhm, what's your favorite crime show?"
I smile, "Cold Case."
"I'm more of a Criminal Minds type of guy. JJ could get it any day."
I make a fake vomit noise. "No, Cold Case is better. These are cases that haven't been solved in centuries, the flashbacks are my favorite. Watching them solve the crime with bits and pieces of evidence is so creative and smart. You have to use your brain to figure it out." I point out. "That might be why you don't like the show." He tells me to shut up.
Looking over to where Sarah and Jessica are talking, I see Andreas Chen. My sister's roommate who I accidentally almost choked to death because I thought he was robbing the house. The guys he's talking to must be his teammates because they're so huge. I hope he doesn't think I'm some crazy psycho who randomly attacks people. He seemed pretty ok last night when he was screaming at me before I got off his back scared me.
The question that I asked him last night stuck with me all night. "What do you think of me now?"
And he answered with, "I don't know."
I know it's not a big deal, and I should just forget about it, but I can't. He didn't know what to think of me. Of course, he barely knows me, I'm just his roommate's little sister who attacked him. He could have said I was pretty, or that my hair was beautifully twisted up. Instead, he gave a basic answer of I don't know.
I barely know Andreas Chen, but I want to get to know him. And most importantly, I want him to know me.
Besides him being sexually attractive, I want to see what's underneath that broad chest and black hair I could run my fingers through over and over again.
So, to learn a bit about him I ask the one person I know would have information. "Hey Daniel, what's up with Andreas Chen?"
"What do you want to know about the guy?" He asks curiously.
"Just, what's his deal. Carlee said he was a man whore, is that true?" He ponders on my question.
"She wasn't lying, he is a man whore, but the good kind." He could tell I was confused, so he furthers on. "Andreas is a football player, a good one at that. Some people think he may be drafted into the NFL. Anyways, with being the big man on campus, every girl wants to ride him and every guy wants to be the guy the girl's ride. He sleeps around a bunch, but he doesn't flaunt it. He doesn't speak of his conquest as his other teammates do, he's the best guy to sleep with if you're into that."
I've never had a one-night stand before, the thought of it makes me want to vomit. What if the guy is a weirdo, like Ted Bundy? Or if you get pregnant or catch an STD? It's all pretty icky to me. Just looking at Andreas Chen makes those creepy and scary thoughts all disappear. I'm not that experienced in bed, my high school boyfriends did all the work while I laid there with my legs wide open. It was most pleasurable for him since I'd never had an orgasm.
He laughs at something one of his friends says. When he laughs, I can see a prominent dimple on his cheek that makes him look even more attractive. I've never been this obsessed with a guy, especially one I don't even know. He's a Junior, I'm sure he doesn't even fuck with freshmen, most upperclassmen don't. They think were babies. I wonder if he thinks that also.
"Do you like him or something? After last night I'm not sure he's looking in your direction, plus you're his roommate's younger sister, he would never." Daniel clarifies.
"I don't like him!" I say defending myself. He holds up his hands. "I just want to learn about who I'll be staying with."
"You never asked about me?" He looks offended.
"That's because you're not that interesting." I stick my tongue out at him.
He falls on the concrete ground, clutching his chest. Screaming, "Ahhh she's killing me! Someone get me away from Elizabeth Pratt, she's killing me!" My tour group looks over to us, concerning looks painting their faces as they stare at a screaming Daniel. Not only my tour group but Andreas also. Once he sees me, those black eyes of his soften.
I kick Daniel, telling him to also shut the hell up. Andreas laughs and waves to me, I smile and wave back. Then, he and his friends walk away. I look to Daniel, "You're older than me, and yet I'm mature."
After 10 more minutes of talking to Daniel, he leaves me with my group. Sarah speaks, "Let's start our tour back up by holding off on The Wheeler Auditorium and stopping by the cafeteria." I quickly pass all my group members walking directly behind Sarah. Hopefully, the cafeteria has burgers; I could go for a BLT.
