Because I am a big fan who is currently writing a trilogy centered on k-pop, I want to see what you can come up with!
Prompt:Write a story based on a k-pop song. It can be absolutely anything you want as long as you use music as inspiration. (Although I beg you to not ONLY write about BTS songs...please branch out a bit, if possible). Also, please keep it under 2,000 words. Otherwise, have fun and let the music move you and your pens! :)
Prize:I will give a review on the winning pieces and promote the winning writers on any of their own works that they choose.
Rewrite a story in any genre! I want to hear your version of a story you've grown up hearing or just thought was interesting! It can be a fairytale/folktale, a ballet, a song, or any other type of story you can think of!
Edit: Since I've recieved 4 questions about what is acceptable source material within the last 24 hours, I just want to make it super, extremelyclear that you can write about anything you want. Anything at all. Only rule is that it has to be a retelling of something. Your options are practically limitless. :)
1.Please refrain from retelling any well-known Grimm/Perault stories: Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow white, etc.
2.Word Count is unlimited! Go nuts!
3.I set the rating at PG-13, but as long as you don't go overboard, I really couldn't care less what you decide to put in your story. You're the writer, after all!
4. Any format is accepted too. Poems, short stories, anything.
The three winners will get a secret prize sent to them!
Most importantly, be creative and have fun! ;)
In light of the recent announcement that X-Files would be coming back for six more episodes, I thought it would be cool to do a sort of monster-of-the-week challenge.
All you have to do is create a monster and write a story about it. The story can be about anything at all. Get creative! The weirder the better!
Rules: Try not to use a monster that you know already exists, e.g., aliens, werewolves, zombies, etc.
Try to keep it under 5,000 words.
Write a story about anything you want to and the only rule is that it has to incorporate something historical that happened/is happening.
It can be something mysterious like the disappearance of Amelia Earhart or the fate of the Romanovs. Or it can be suspenseful such as the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand or the tension in a country fighting for independence. It can be something that happened in the past or something currently happening.
Pretty much anything you want as long as it has some historical aspect. You can decide what length it will be and you can also submit up to two entries.
Write a flash story (between 100 and 1000 words long) based on the prompt below:
Your character has been wandering for...what seemed like ages now. A long, empty hallway leading apparently nowhere. On either side of them, dozens and dozens of doors. Unmarked. Unnamed. Indistinguishable from one another. When they finally do decide to open one up, they see a very peculiar scene. A memory. Long forgotten.
My intention was to have this be a chance to flesh out your original character's backstory, and give some perspective on a bad memory, an important memory, something like that! Do with it what you'd like!
Create a character with powers of your choice. No power is too much! Make sure to include appearance, personality, backstory, description of what they can do and (optional- extra points if you do, however!) a short piece of them in action. Looking forward to seeing your ideas! I might even include them in a story... ;)

We've all heard the fairytales: The charming knight finds the tower the beautiful princess is hidden away in, all to slay the evil dragon to bring her home and marry her. Right? Well, not anymore.
In this contest, take the story of the knight saving the princess from the tower and put an unlikely twist in it! Maybe the princess isn't a princess? The dragon's nice? It's actually a giant goat? The prince is like 85 years old? Take your pick!
Any genre or length is accepted. Have fun!
Hey, everyone! I've decided to come up with a second contest for AScene On Romancebecause I'm so in love with the idea of it! This time though, I've thought of trying a different setting between two options; historical/medieval, compared to the usual modern day situation (if you haven't already guessed from the cover of this contest) :pSo here we go! Your story MUSTinclude:
> either a historical settingORa medieval setting> some kind of romance > enemies and some fights> three horses> a stormy night> a happy endingWord limit:None :D *I searched some of my favourite actresses that starred in either a medieval or historical movie from the search engine and made a cover out of it for this contest. I don't own any of the pictures above.
I hope this is an interesting enough prompt for everyone to participate in!Let your creativity flow and imagination go beyond! All the best to you guys and happy writing~ :D
Have you ever seen an amazing word in the dictionary which just makes you smile? Time to share it with Penana with the words definition.
The word can be in any language but if it isn't, could you give a translation please!
Also, if you want, you could make up an amazing word! Just please indicate this and put the meaning you would give to your word with it!
Sometimes inspirations for your writing may come from things you hear.
It could be just any kinds of sound you will hear in your life, but how about it is some popular song you hear on the streets, at school with your friends, at a cafe, or even through your earbuds from your iPod!
As a heavy music lover as well, I frequently thought of stories based on music, and mostly it was about thinking of a music video scenario for it all by myself. One day, when I was listening to one of BIGBANG [just to note: my all-time favorite K-pop group! Yup you can call me VIP haha :)]'s newest songs which were released in last year from my cell phone, one sparkling thought came into my mind....OH, WHAT ABOUT WRITING A STORY ABOUT THIS SONG....wait, HOW ABOUT WRITING A STORY FROM K-POP ITSELF?
Since I am a very busy person and cannot think of all stories from all songs from a single brain, I decided that I need your help and ideas in order to help me out completing this somewhat time-killing project-like thing into action. So, just come over and have fun with writing over any K-pop music you like even if you don't like K-pop:) And.....for you K-pop lovers over there.......come on! Don't be shy! Kill two birds with one stone by writing stories and listening to your favorite team's song!
So everybody, these are the rules;
Who to write: Everyone who got ideas and love K-POP or anyone who just wants to write stories from new music!
What to write: ANY KINDS OF FICTION INSPIRED FROM A PARTICULAR K-POP SONG[I MEAN, REALLY ANY SONG AS LONG AS IT'S K-POP!].....or two, if you like:)
[Note: ALTHOUGH I settled the rating cutlines as PG-13, symbolic or metaphoric claims of sexuality, violence, or other 'adult' issues are okay!]
When to write : Any time from February 22 to March 7(GMT +9 Zone) [That gives you two weeks so I think that will be enough!]
How to win: Mainly based on choice of the organizer-that's me:)-but like counts will be considered! I just mentioned that I like BIGBANG, but it doesn't mean that I will only look for works done based on their song so don't worry! I am a quite fair person and you can guarantee:)
What you get if you win:
1st place- An audio-drama version of the winning story [which means that I will record your story and send it to you again] and held it on my Naver blog [address will be told later] with a Korean translation
2nd place- A story fan art of the winning story with a quote from the choice of the organizer written on the side
3rd place- A word document version of the winning story with some pictures of your group attached as inserted pictures
Additional Good News: NO WORD COUNT PEOPLE! WRITE AS LONG AS YOU WANT!!
That's it. Enjoy your writing guys! I'll be happy to see all of your entries two weeks later:)
