The teacher walked through the halls, folder in hand, blank-faced as if she wanted the world to end already. Her tired eyes weren't noticeable to other people since the first thing they'll see is her big baby bump. She led a student through the halls, showing him around.
"And, uhhhhhh, don't worry too much..." she said, trying her best to smile, "the kids here are nice although they're a bit chaotic, uhhh, sometimes. Actually, no, most of the time, but don't worry about it."
The student slowly followed behind. He was only a few inches taller than the teacher. He had long, lean legs and a lean body, yet he was always so slouched, making him look a bit pathetic. His semi-long wavy hair covered a part of his black-rimmed glasses. He had pale, smooth skin making his reddish lips look vibrant. He only nodded in response to the teacher.
He easily caught up to the teacher with his long legs after noticing he was far behind. He tried to match the teacher's pace, "About the schedule-" he tried to say, but, instead, he was cut off by a series of shouts and very rough sounds of furniture being thrown. The noise appeared when the teacher opened the door to the classroom. It was so loud it was as if the air was vibrating. A look of surprise showed on his face yet the teacher remained calm. In fact, 'calm' isn't even a very suitable word to describe her. She was more... exasperated but she was too tired to show it on her face.
"Ahem-!" the teacher cleared her throat but the class continued.
There was a gathering of students right in the middle and there was a boy who looked like he was the one starting all this mess. The teacher's tired eyes flared. The new student even got scared a little at the change of aura around the teacher. She removed her shoes and then glared at the boy in the middle who was making all the noise.
"Kim-!" she dragged her hands behind her back for her hit to be strong and exact.
"Jeong-!"
"DAE-!!!!"
At the last syllable, she hurled her wooden tap shoe-like shoes at the student. You wouldn't even be able to see how fast the shoe went. The new student's eyes were wide open and so was his mouth. He swallowed his saliva thinking that he'd be studying here for 2 more years.
"Aaaaaaaaah-!!" Kim Jeong Dae, the student who was the cause of the chaos, tried to dodge but the shoe swerved right at him and hit his forehead! "OW!!!!!" he shouted before collapsing. The impact was so hard that it seemed almost as if his forehead was smoking.
The other students didn't even bother to help him and quickly got back to their seats in the most organized manner. The teacher took a piece of pink chalk and lightly threw it at the closest student, "Naani! Get me my shoe and bring that piece of shit to the nurse's office!!" she commanded.
Naani, the victim- I mean- the student, quickly got up and got the shoe, gave it to the teacher then dragged the whimpering Jeong Dae on the floor to the nurse's office as he was told.
There was an ear-piercing silence in the room once the nuisance left. The teacher slammed her folder on the desk. "Good morning everyone," she greeted.
"Good morning Ms Amy!" the students said simultaneously, their tones varying from overly-energetic to dead-inside.
Ms Amy sat on her chair with a "flop" then invited the new student to the 'platform', "As you all know and have heard," she said, her hands directing to the student standing in front, "we have a transfer student all the way from... uhhhhh-?" she looked at the student for answers.
"XXX." the student mumbled loud enough for the teacher to hear but still a bit too quiet for the students.
"Yes, from the country of XXX, and, uh, I'll leave the rest to you, uhh," the teacher put her forefinger and middle finger together then rubbed her forehead, "I forgot your name, whatever." She sat back in her chair and then picked up her knitting needles to continue her work-in-progress.
The new student gripped his bag tightly, trying to untangle the knot in his throat. He straightened his back, adjusted his glasses, and then faced the students. "Good morning, everyone. My name is Skyler Hiro and I'm going to be your classmate from now on," he stopped to scan the room then he bent his waist then bowed forward, "please take care of me." he said with a clear voice.
Shen (his birth name) Hiro always kept a straight attitude with his chin lifted towards the sky when he met new people. His outer appearance was unbending and confident even though he gets very nervous. He would never let it show nor will he let people look down on him.
The students looked at him; some were curious, some were amazed, while some just really looked at him because there was really nothing else to look at other than the pregnant woman knitting scarves for her cats and no one wanted to look at that (unless they're interested in knitting which is always an embarrassing topic for them considering they're in an all-boys school).
Ms Amy looked up from her work and strained her face to try and smile at Skye, "You can go ahead and find yourself an empty seat," she said, "There's one at the back, near the window, someone already sits there but it seems that that someone is taking their sweet time. If you want, you can take his seat and you'll get a nice view of the students playing ball outside. It's quite relaxing actually; seeing them trip and bruise themselves ehehe... But he'll cause trouble if he sees you sitting on his chair. Just a warning, but it's a good seat, I'm telling you."
Skye stared at the teacher who looked outside the window, his face was hard to read but if you look closely, his eyes were horrified. Either he was horrified by the teacher's warning or by the fact that the teacher enjoys seeing kids get hurt. Ms Amy continued, "Or you could sit on that chair," she pointed at a seat close to the hallway, third row from the front, second row from the back, "I can see that you're wearing glasses so it might be hard to see, you get me, right?"
By now, Skye had easily decided which seat to take and rushed to the second option, "That's so weird." he thought to himself, "she'll let me sit at the back with no hesitation but gives me a second thought when she tells me to sit here? I can't see very well if I sat at the back either, y'know."
"Okay, now that that's settled, let's get started. Everyone open your textbooks to page 102 and let's start with Jeong Ho. Read the first passage and stand up properly."
And thus, life overseas for Skye started. But... something else happened.
After school:
Skye quickly picked up his bag and left the classroom in a flash because one of the guys started bothering him, asking all sorts of things like, "where do you live? who're your parents? what's it like in your country?" and then escalated to, "wanna come to a PC cafe later? can we be friends? are you smart? what's the last digit of pi? what's your address? what's your number? do you have a girlfriend?" and, because Skye didn't really say no to the PC cafe invitation, he just rushed out in fear of getting tagged along to that brain-rotting place.
Now, he's trapped. There were multiple boys in front of him, varying in height and face shapes. There was so much diversity that it looked ridiculous. One guy had a square-shaped face and a round body. Another guy had a round face and a square-shaped body. Not two of them had the same body or facial proportions and neither do they look normal. They were obviously Skye's age and were high schoolers but they wore different uniforms. Skye's school had white button-up collared blouses where a light blue vest is worn over with the school's crest on the chest part. They had white jackets also with the school's crest. A royal blue necktie with white and light blue stripes was optional but Skye still wore them. While the people in front of him wore darker-ish uniforms with black jackets with wine-red outer linings, white button-up long sleeves with black and red striped ties and most of them were missing it. They also had their school's crest on the pocket on the chest part of the jacket. And even the jackets they didn't bother to wear. Most of them were just wearing white button-up collared long sleeves.
Skye backed up until his back touched a wall while the "leader" of the group closed in on him. Skye looked a bit distressed since he was really hoping to call his sweet little siblings back home before they go to bed but it seems that won't be possible. For him, this scene is more like an inconvenience than a tragedy. "Please get out of the way," he said, his eyebrows scrunched into a frown.
"So you're the new student, huh?" the very hunk guy said.
Skye thought, he totally ignored what I said.
"You know you look pretty weak. You're pretty wimpy compared to those guys in that school."
He tied not to say the school's name and just said "that school" with spite and extra highlight to the "that."
"Right," Skyes thought, "Bryce (the annoying guy with a storm of questions) said something about a rival school. Maybe this is them." he nodded in agreement with himself.
For no reason whatsoever, the big hunk of meat was agitated, "Hey!" he smacked Skye's glasses off, "what are you nodding about?!?!"
Skye bent down to get his glasses. He was close to tears since the hit really hurt but, still, he maintained a passive face.
"Hah! Pretending to be tough?" he kicked Skye down so hard that Skye fell on his butt before even getting to his glasses, "you piece of-"
Skye flinched as the guy lifted his hands to hit him again. The losers- I mean- the henchmen in the background stopped cheering, too. They all stopped then looked behind them. There was a long shadow, so big that it cast over Skye. The big hunk of meat slowly turned his head, sweating.
Skye tried to see who it was and saw a man, taller than he was and taller than anyone in this group of people. He had short mid-length white hair and slightly tanned skin. Skye was the type to over-examine people's faces but he couldn't see the man's face completely. But one thing was for sure, his aura was strong, like that of a predator.
Once the leader saw who the person was, he instantly froze in place, his hand still high up in the air. Skye also paused, he wanted to see what was going to happen. The person slowly walked towards the big hunk of meat. The other henchmen didn't do anything and also just froze in place while making way for him. He stopped in front of the leader then smacked his cheeks a few times, "What's this?" he pointed at the frozen guy's lifted hand, "You going to hit me?"
At this point, Skye was looking for some popcorn but he had to focus on the person's face. The man had very long, dark eyelashes which covered his fierce phoenix eyes. He had a sharp nose bridge and thin, red lips, curled up into a sneer. Skye didn't like the fact that this student was missing his vest and had his blouse half unbuttoned while his jacket wasn't buttoned at all. He wasn't very proper, or, at least, his uniform wasn't.
The big hunk of meat regained his reason after getting slapped back to earth. He shrieked like a girl and ran, he didn't even look back when he said to Skye, "Run away!! He'll kill you!!". All of the henchmen scattered like little mice and, in a split second, the area was cleared.
The only people left in the area were Skye and the... that boy. Skye squinted hard to read the man's nametag, "R... Levine. R. Levine? What R. Levine?" Skye thought. He lifted his eyes and saw that 'R. Levine" was glaring at him. Perhaps the glare came on a bit too strong because Skye fell to the ground, immediately shattering his calm exterior.
Author's Notes:
I decided to just cut it off here and move on to the next chapter because I just realized that this is way too long. I got a bit too excited and go carried away lol
