I skidded around a corner and burst through the school's front doors.
Vampires can run way faster than humans and werewolves combined, so that at least was on my side. Unfortunately for me, though, the other vampire could go just as fast, if not faster than me. If he couldn't go faster than me, he could smell me out. If he couldn't smell me out, he could hear me. If he couldn't hear me out, he could--well, you get the idea.
I was screwed.
There was no place to run to, no place to hide, no place to save me from the wrath of whoever this person was. I scanned the clearing around the school and found myself thinking,
The forest.
That could save me. My heartbeat might be covered by the pulse of other animals, and my smell could be covered by the old, moss-covered trees that grew there.
I bit my lip and took off running towards the woods.
******
The branches scraped deep gashes into my skin that healed almost as quickly as they came. I couldn't stop running, though. I could hear his rapid footfalls behind me, getting closer with each step. I tried, I really did, to push harder, but I wasn't quick enough.
Before I knew what was happening, my back was slammed against a tree. I groaned as I heard a faint snap of my rib, but within five seconds it was gone. One of the actual good points of being a vampire.
I opened one eye to see two red ones staring straight at me. He was very good looking, with dark brown hair and bright red eyes. Okay, so maybe only I think someone with red eyes is good looking. But still, he was handsome.
I didn't care in the least, though. Like I said, I'm too young.
We were about two feet apart, and he was hissing loudly at me. I stuck my tongue out at him, and then hissed right back.
The boy began to slowly circle me. I glared at him.
Suddenly I shot forward and grabbed him by the neck. My nails sank into his throat--not to kill him, but just enough to draw blood.
"Why were you at the school?" I hissed.
The boy scrabbled at my hands, but gave up quickly, knowing that there was no point in trying.
"I...I...I didn't know you'd be there."
I thought for a minute. "Okay...what's your name?"
He gritted his teeth.
"Rufus."
I smirked, and my grip loosened. "Rufus. That sounds like a do--"
Rufus had taken advantage of my grip and was now pinning me to the ground.
He was still glaring at me, but I could sense a touch of playfulness underneath his stare.
"What's your name?"
"Tempest."
Now it was his turn to snicker. "Tempest? Like a pathetic little storm?"
I stuck my tongue out again.
"You have a problem with that, doggy?"
He raised up one eyebrow and seemed to think things over. I took that moment to scramble out of his grip.
"...No."
I smiled, feeling pleased with myself for some weird reason. "Good."
He returned my smile with a lopsided one of his own as he stood up and brushed some dirt off of his clothes.
"So," I questioned, curiosity getting the best of me, "how old are you?"
Rufus raised one eyebrow again. "Hmmm...I think...310?"
I must've been looking at him with wide eyes, because he smirked and said, "What? Are you just 100 years old?"
"No..." I puffed out my chest. "I'm 203, for your information."
He laughed.
I glared at him.
I heard him mutter something about pathetic young chickens or something before he shook his head and strutted off towards the school.
I sighed and walked the next few blocks over to my pris--my house. I relaxed and did nothing for the rest of the day.
And for the first time in 192 years, I fell into a peaceful slumber.
Ugh, I know that was crappy but hang with me, next chapter will be awesome!!!!! ;)197Please respect copyright.PENANAv7rxtckgEd
