Maria's pov
I watched the greenish blob of "meat" plop down onto my plate.
Couldn't they at least try to make it the right color?
I sighed and walked over to my friends' table. It was nice being a werewolf; you always had whole entire pack watching over you. There was never any problem with friends--you had grown up with most everyone in the school around you.
Tyler, my mate, greeted me as I strolled over to him and his friends. I'm 16, a little too young for a mate, but me and Tyler met just a few months ago. And I guess the Moon Goddess picks mates for the right reasons at the right times. So I don't really care. It's nice having someone around who understands exactly what I mean and loves me unconditionally. Even if he can be a little clingy at times.
"Hey!!!!" Tyler beamed, his whole face lighting up at the sight of me.
"Hi," I answered back, my mind on something else at the moment.
"So," he began, catching up to me, "What happened to you today? Are you good? I'm great. I got a 99% percent on my physics test today. I dunno about the other 1%. What did you get? Huh? Huh? Oh yeah!!!! I dumped gorilla glue all over Ms. Reyner's chair!!!! Then I got detention for two weeks!!!! It was great!!! Also, my pet guinea pig--"
I gently pushed him back and looked back down at my tray.
"Tyler, not right now. I'm thinking about something."
Immediately his confused face lit back up.
"Ooh!!! I can help!!!! What thinking about?" Suddenly his face fell. "Except if it's science. Science is super hard. Super super hard. Super super super--"
"It's okay, Tyler, I get it. It's not science." He grinned ear to ear, relief washing over him like a blanket.
"It just--I just--" I paused, trying to find the right words without sounding like a psycho. "Something happened today in math class. I don't--I can't remember most of it, but there was--there was a chase, or something?" I racked my brain. "Like..." I remembered a desk crashing down onto the floor because of a boy (or was it a girl?)...I couldn't think of what they looked like, though...
Tyler's befuddled face broke into a crooked grin. Maybe he wasn't that sharp, but he at least was cute.
"It's okay, Maria. Let's just forget about it and move on. It's in the past, it doesn't concern us. Anyway, as I was saying, my pet guinea pig--"
"No, Tyler!!!" I snapped.
His face looked crestfallen, and I immediately regretted yelling at him.
"I mean," I quickly backtracked, patting him on the shoulder, "That I think this is really important to me. Would you help me with it, if it matters so much to me?"
Tyler's face lifted into an eager smile. "Yeah!!!!"
I smiled sweetly at him. "Thanks Tyler. You're awesome."
He grinned and hugged me. I sighed and relaxed in his arms when suddenly, in the corner of my eye, I spotted someone. It was a boy, with dark brown hair and bright red eyes. A vampire.
And with a giant "Aha!!" moment, I realized that this was the boy who'd overturned his desk in math class.
