It was cold inside the warehouse. The only thing that could be heard was the dripping of a leaky pipe. Victor slowly opened his eyes, the effects of the drug just barely fading.
"Where in the hell am I," he groaned running his hand through his fluffy black hair.
"Shhhhh. They'll hear us," came a beautiful soprano voice to his right. Victor turned his head slowly gazing at the beautiful girl next to him. She had long wavy brown curls, soft cheeks, a button nose, and deep dark brown eyes.
"Who's they? Your boyfriend?" Victor joked, flashing her one of his dazzling smiles. The girl rolled her eyes.
"Yeah. My boyfriend," she lightly smacked him on the head. "No, you idiot. The guys who kidnapped us?"
Victor's smile faded and his eyes widened in fear. "Kidnapped? What do you mean kidnapped?" He quickly stood his voice high with panic. "Kidnapped!? You better be joking."
The girl pulled him down by his shirt and covered his mouth. "SHHHH! Yes. Kidnapped. Now be QUIET. Listen. I've got an idea. They left the door unlocked when they left, but unfortunately for us, the outside is like a maze with randomly placed armed guards.
Victor quickly stood up. "Ok? So how do you plan for us to escape if we don't even know how to actually get out?"
"While you were sleeping like a dead fish. (Victor winced in physical and mental pain) I found a map. It's not very good though because it's just random lines, but I think this is where we are and this is what we have to follow. Got that?" She concurred.
He nodded. "Yeah. Whatever you say, princess."
"Boys tease girls when they're lonely and sometimes it's cute but it looks stupid from you," she grumbled.
"Yeah. True. HEY WHA-"
"SHHHHH"
"Sorry. Sorry."
The girl slowly pulled back the door revealing long metal hallways leading off in random directions. The temperature immediately dropped from cold to freezing and they both stood silently in the doorway.
"It says left," she whispered pointing to the horribly drawn map.
"Alright. Lead the way," he replied gently pushing her forward.
She turned around to glare at him before giving up and eventually leading the way. Their footsteps echoed against the polished concrete floors. Suddenly she came to a stop. They heard another pair of footsteps other than their own. They rushed as fast as they could away from the noise before coming to a halt in front of a dead-end.
The girl began to hyperventilate, slumping against the floor her hands knotted tightly in her hair. "We're going to die here. I'm so sorry. I never should have brought you," she whimpered.
Victor took her hands and urgently probed her. "What's your name?"
"Calypso?"
"What's your favorite color?"
"Green."
"Do you play any sports?"
"Yeah. I like to swim."
"Great tell me all about that."
With each question Victor prodded out of Calypso the calmer she became until eventually, she was still and quiet. Finally, when she was back to normal he stopped asking her questions and stood up. "That wasn't so hard was it?"
Calypso smiled weakly. "No, I suppose not."
Together they continued to wander through the hallways until they came to a large metal doorway. Victor and Calypso quietly pushed the door open and exited.
They collapsed on the ground panting heavily and quietly giggling.
"We're out!" Calypso breathed grinning madly at Victor.
Victor smiled back at her. "All thanks to you."
"No. All thanks to you," she stated simply.
Victor's smile faded a little bit. "What do you mean? You came up with the plan. It was your idea. You found the map."
Calypso shook her head. Her beautiful waves bounced on her delicate shoulders. "No, no, no Victor. You came with all of that."
Victor's eyes widened with realization. Calypso wasn't real.
"Victor. You were just too frightened to admit that you were all alone," she inclined.
Victor's eyes welled with tears as he looked around the quiet empty warehouse. He looked back at the spot Calypso had been sitting but she was gone. Victor picked up the map from where she had sat and stood.
Before he quietly exited back into the world he whispered two lonely words.
"Goodbye Calypso."
