~•★Alex's Point of View★•~
As we stepped back to admire our hardwork, I couldn't help but smile. It had been a busy week, helping Fae paint her room. But I was still surprised as to why she had chosen to ask me to help her. She was a social butterfly, so she could've gotten just about anyone to help her.
But why me?
"It looks so much better than I imagined it," she said, clearly satisfied with it.
"I'm glad you like how it turned out. But can I ask you something?" It probably wasn't important but I felt as if I had to know.
"Sure," she replied, continuing to look at the last wall we had just painted.
"Why did you ask me to help you with the painting? Couldn't you have asked anyone else?"
I saw a small smile form on her face as she turned to face me.
"I could've. But I wanted it to be you."
"Why?" I asked her curiously.
"Because there's something I need to know," she replied emotionless.
"What is it?"
She continued to look at me, not uttering a word until she sighed and her smile returned.
"How do you feel about Victoria?"
"What?" I felt as if her question had come out of nowhere.
"You heard me Alex."
I sighed and looked away, contemplating on whether I should tell her.
But what would she gain from knowing my answer? I asked myself.
"Just answer me," she said, breaking me away from my thoughts.
"I love her," I said, more as a whisper as I turned to look at her. Surprisingly, she was still smiling.
"Is that why you asked her on a date to the restaurant where you proposed then?" she asked. My eyes widened as I processed her words, feeling slightly confused.
"What did you say?"
"I-Is something wrong?" her face was immediately coated in worry.
"What did you say Fae?" I asked her again, this time trying my best to show her how serious I was.
"I just asked if you asked her to meet you at the restaurant where you proposed because you wanted to tell her you love her."
"I didn't ask her out to anywhere."
"What? Then who's it from?" she began to panic.
"I don't know. Do you know what time she's going to be there?" I asked her, not expecting her to know. But surprisingly, she did.
"At eight."
I took my cellphone from my pocket and checked the time. Almost nine.
"I have to go," I told her, rushing out of her place. I heard her calls behind me but I couldn't stop. There was a possibility of something bad happening to Victoria and I couldn't let that happen.
I don't know what I'd do with myself if I ever allowed such a thing to happen.
~~♡~~♡~~♡~~
As I walked from my car to the restaurant, the sound of heels click clacking on the pavement, caused me to look behind me. A woman who looked similar to Victoria was walking towards a car which looked very much like hers. Before I could think anything through, I shouted her name.
"Victoria!"
I began to run towards her once I sensed that she had heard me. She turned around to face me. In a few seconds I was standing a few steps away from her, trying to catch my breath.
"So you finally decided to show," she said, her tone showing that she was on the verge of tears.
"What do you mean?" I asked her. Although I knew that she thought that I was the one who had sent her that invitation, her statement still took me aback.
"You sent me an invite remember? Meet me at eight tomorrow at the restaurant I proposed. Wear something formal. Remember?"
"What are you talking about? I never sent anything like that to you," I told her.
"Besides me, you're the only one who knows where you proposed to me. How can you tell me that it wasn't you?!" she yelled.
But that wasn't completely true. There was one other person who knew but how could she be connected to this?
"Because it wasn't me Victoria," I replied, trying to remain calm as I tried to figure out how my mother could be connected to this.
"Would you just stop lying?!"
Hearing that she didn't believe me was starting to infuriate me. How could she think that I was lying? Was the invite so convincing that she would believe that it was actually me?
"I'm not lying! I'm sorry if you don't believe me but it's the truth!" As much as I wanted to hide my annoyance, I couldn't help but to yell back at her.
Silence surrounded us as we looked at each other, enclosed in our own thoughts.
After I had proposed to Victoria, I had happily drove to my parents' house, finding it hard to contain my excitment. But once I had gotten there, only my mother was at home. She had asked me to tell her every detail and so I did.
She was the only one who I had told where I had done it. But if it was really her, why would she do that to Victoria?
And then, it hit me.
My eyes widened as I reached a conclusion. Victoria must have noticed.
"What is it?" she softly asked.
"It was him. But why? What would he get from this?" I answered to myself, not realizing that she had said something.
"What are you talking about Alex?" she asked.
"Mike. He must've been the one who sent it to you."
It all made sense. Ever since we had gotten married, my mother had tried to break us apart, lecturing me about why I should leave her and trying to get Mike to be with her instead. But even though she wanted him to be with her, I had hoped that telling him how I felt about her would change his mind.
"Did he want to be with you that bad?" I whispered, not expecting her to answer.
"What are you talking about?" she asked, obviously confused.
I sighed as I shook my head, not wanting to make her angry with Mike.
"It's nothing."
She remained silent, intently thinking. I was tempted to break her thoughts but I stopped when she finally spoke.
"Do you not want to be with me Alex?" My head jerked up to meet her worried expression once I heard her question.
"What?" I asked instinctively even though I had heard her question.
"Do you really not want to be with me?" she asked again, looking away from me.
"I heard what you said. But why would you ask that?" I asked her. When she remained silent, I took a few steps towards her, in hopes of getting an answer. She took a few steps back and spoke again, ignoring my question.
"Just answer me. Please. I need to know."
There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be with her. She was the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I wanted her to come back to me.
I walked towards her and placed a finger under her chin, forcing her to look at me as I wondered whether telling her now would be a good idea. But seeing the tears falling from her eyes confused me. I couldn't tell if telling her would make things better.
"Why are you crying Victoria?" I asked her. She removed her head from my finger and tried to wipe away her tears but I grabbed onto her wrist to stop her.
"Answer me," I pushed on, trying to find out her reason. Seeing her like this broke me inside.
"I'm crying because you don't want to be with me," she replied, looking into my eyes, allowing me to see how everything had been affecting her. But her answer had taken me aback.
"Did I say that to you?" I asked her.
"You didn't have to."
"When are you going to stop jumping to conclusions?" I asked her, starting to get slightly irritated at her for not letting me tell her just how I felt instead of deciding for me.
"I'm not─"
I didn't let her finish speaking before connecting my lips with hers. She immediately reacted, something that I appreciated. Her lips on mine reminded me of the mornings we would spend together in each other's company. I wrapped my arms tightly around her waist as those memories filled my mind, feeling the need to recreate those memories.
"Alex, is this what you want?" she asked after we had pulled apart, searching my eyes for an answer.
Of course it is, I thought to myself, tightening my grip on her waist.
"Do you want to be with me?" she whispered.
How much I wanted to say yes overwhelmed me so much that I couldn't reply. Of course I wanted to be with her, I had missed having her by my side ever since that incident at the barbecue. She was the love of my life and I didn't know what I'd do if I had to continue living without her.
But I didn't know if she wanted the same. After all, I had tried to divorce her and kissing her just now must've been confusing for her.
"Now I really know what you answer is Alex, you don't need to tell me." Her voice brought me back to reality.
"No you don't Victoria. Just wait and listen," I told her, trying to figure things out in my head. But she didn't want to listen.
"What more do I need to listen to? I already know what you're going to─"
But I didn't let her finish her sentence. Seeing how stubborn she was, forced me to stop her from speaking so that I could finally tell her what I needed to. And the only way I could think of doing that was to kiss her again.
We pulled apart, both of us trying to catch our breaths as our eye contact never broke.
"What does this mean?" she asked. I removed my hands from around her waist to hold onto both of her hands. I took in a deep breath as I braced myself for her reaction after hearing everything I was thinking.
"It means that I love you Victoria, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
"I want to go back to when we woke up everyday beside each other, and went to sleep knowing that the first people we'd see was each other. I don't want to imagine doing any of that with anyone else because I can't.
"I love you Victoria, and I don't know how many times I have to say it for you to see just how much I do. But I want to be with you; I need to be with you or else I don't know how I'm going to survive."
She remained in silence for a few seconds; those seconds, making me feel slightly nervous.
"You've already survived without me," she finally said, turning her head away from me. But feeling the need to see her face, I placed my hand on her cheek and turned her head to face me.
"Do you know how I did it?" I asked her, earning a shake of her head. "After seeing the way you reacted when I attempted suicide, it was the hope of being able to be with you again that kept me going. I never thought of being with anyone else but you."
"What about Fae? I saw you leaving the building with her a few times," she asked, her voice holding a little bit of accusation.
"What?" I asked, feeling slighty confused at her question.
"You can't lie to me about that Alex. I live in the same building as her."
"There's nothing going on between us. You can ask her if you want. All I did was help her repaint one of her rooms. You know how picky she can be when it comes to her style," I replied, chuckling slightly. She looked like she didn't believe me though. Which caused me to start worrying slightly.
"Victoria, please listen to me when I say I love you. Because I really do."
She continued to look at me, not saying a word. And as I looked into her beautiful shining eyes, I remembered something that I had left in my wallet. I reached into my pocket and pulled it out.
"You kept it?" she asked, clearly surprised to see me pull out her wedding ring. I felt my lips turn into a smile as I looked at her expression.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I?" I asked, not expecting an answer as I bent down on one knee and held onto her left hand. I slipped the ring onto her ring finger.
"Victoria, I don't know if you want to get back together with me. But I do know that I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, the way it was supposed to be from the start. And no matter what you decide, you are the rightful owner of this ring," I told her, standing up and wrapping her in a warm embrace.
After I had finished relishing in her warmth, I pulled away, planting a kiss on her cheek. I turned around and started to walk away, not expecting her to tell me how she felt now. I knew that I wanted to be with her and I had finally showed that to her. Now, I just had to wait for her answer. But I felt her hand around my wrist, causing me to turn around to face her.
"Why didn't you ask me if I want to be with you?" she asked, making me smile.
"Because I wanted you to tell me when you were ready," I replied honestly. I didn't want to force her to make a decision. But she sighed.
"You don't know how long I've been ready to tell you," she said, smiling at me.
"What's your answer Victoria?"
Her smile widened as she continued to look at me, causing my smile to widen as well.
"I want to be with you too Alex."
I couldn't help myself as my smile turned into a large grin upon hearing her answer.
"Are you serious?" I asked, slightly surprised.
"I am."
A loud shriek filled the air as I lifted her and spin us around as I felt the excitement course through me. When I stopped, I placed her back on the ground, placing both of my hands onto her cheeks.
"You know I love you right?" I asked, earning another nod.
"I love you too Alex."
As soon as I heard that, I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her close to me, taking over her lips with mine once again.
