It was assumed that with Mr. Silver missing and with the government in control of things now, that Mr. Silver’s Academy for Monster Slayers was officially dead, but the academy remained very much alive. The secret knowledge that threatened to cause a small bit of trouble in the people’s hands had been delivered safely out of the country – or to secure locations in the far reaches of Sudostris. The secret bunker had expanded now to the tunnels and sewers that ran all around beneath the city, and many of the teachers and students, and ranked officers, remained loyal to Mr. Silver.
Miss Ling greeted Mr. Silver as if she had only seen him yesterday, and even then, they spared the pleasantries and Ling cast her eyes over the rabble that came along with setting up the new but temporary academy. “It is a little bit of a downgrade, isn’t it?”
“With your help I’m sure it will be as fantastic as the last one. We won’t be staying long, anyway. Come, tell me what you found in Eswerld.” He led her into his new office and there they stayed as she recounted her entire journey and business over east.
Meanwhile, Victor and Sam strolled aimlessly through the tunnels like children at a store. People ignored them mostly, as they were all quite busy. Sam decided to search for the tunnel-equivalent of the library, as she figured there was still much study to be done before they became Slayers. “Still, we’re so close that I can just feel it! Once we master alchemy we’ll be able to wield the philosopher’s stone! Imagine all the good we could do!”
Victor faintly noticed a familiar shine in Sam’s eyes – she looked like Astrid when she talked about the stone. “Yeah, and although I’m not really sure what to expect, I think it’ll be pretty magnificent.”
