Fred lay sprawled on his back, limp-dicked and frustrated as his girlfriend, Ginny, tried to calm their wailing infant in the next room. Why in the world didn’t he think to insist on birth control? Was it because he thought that not wanting the hassles of a child would be enough to prevent it from becoming a reality? So much for wishing upon a star!
Ginny returned a few minutes later. “Well, he’s calmed down somewhat,” she said, sliding into bed next to him.
Fred bolted to an upright position. “Ginny, I’m sick of this shit. Really sick of it. For the last six months, that brat has done nothing but pick the worst of times to start his damn screaming.”
Ginny’s eyes narrowed as she glared angrily at Fred. “Oh, you poor, poor neglected little man,” she mocked, “and don’t you ever refer to our son as a brat.”
Fred pulled himself up out of bed. “He’s your son.”
“Well, if that’s going to be your attitude, then get the hell out, but be prepared to pay child support!” Ginny spat at him. “Go on, get the hell outa here!”
Fred pulled on his shorts, looked at Ginny, and said, “I’m not going anywhere but into the kitchen for a beer, which I’ll then take into the living room while I sit in front of the TV. It’s much more entertaining than you’ve been lately.”
Ginny stood her ground firmly in the bedroom doorway. She had heard countless stories of men who were jealous of the kids their wives and girlfriends had, and who wouldn’t foot their fair share of the responsibilities, but she never realized until her son was born that she too, would be able to tell one of those stories.
“Get out of the way, Gin.”
“Make me,” Ginny said with a daring hiss.
Fred could see she was furious. But so was he. He took a swing at Ginny’s face, but she caught it before it could make contact with her nose.
“That’s it!” Ginny screamed. “Get the fuck out now or I’ll beat the shit out of you! Nobody hits me. Nobody!”
“The hell you’ll beat my ass!” Fred shouted back, rapidly swinging his fists at Ginny. But they might as well have been nothing more than a slew of annoying flies with the way she fended the blows off, one by one.
Fire flew from Ginny’s eyes as she threw a punch of her own at Fred. Only Fred couldn’t ward hers off. He felt red-hot blood on his lip as he eyed Ginny with horrified surprise.
Hey, wait a minute? What was wrong here?
No woman ever laid a hand on him. No woman! He’d kill Ginny and leave the brat alone in its crib before he let himself be taken by a woman of all creatures.
Ginny socked him again. This blow caused him to sway with dizziness. And again she socked him. Now his nose was bleeding, too.
This wasn’t happening, couldn’t be happening! The bitch may’ve been forty or fifty pounds heavier than she was before conceiving the brat who was wailing again like a little hyena, but she was still lighter than he by thirty pounds or so. And a good five inches shorter, too.
Despite the pain he felt, Fred began the fight of his life. He kicked and punched like he would in the past when his opponents had been other men. Yet despite his rage and his efforts, Ginny blocked his attempts to assault her, even kill her like he wanted to do like never before, as she gripped his throat and pinned his back to her front. While dragging him out of the bedroom in a chokehold with one arm, she reached for the cabin’s door with the other. Grunting and panting with exertion, she managed to get the door open and shoved Fred out onto the porch. He fell to his knees, never more embarrassed or pissed in his entire life. Ginny then kicked him in the ribs. He fell flat on his face as the air gushed out of his lungs. He practically hyperventilated trying to catch his breath while Ginny screamed down at him.
“Don’t you ever, ever let me see your sorry face again, you sick asshole! You hear me?”
Fred continued to struggle with his breathing as he pushed himself up on all fours.
Ginny bent down to scream in his ear. “I said, do you hear me!”
Feeling beaten and humiliated beyond belief, Fred nodded, though he kept his face to the wooden floor of the porch.
Ginny straightened to her full height. “Get up.”
Fred began to move, then stilled.
“I said get up!”
Fred made a half-assed effort to dive at Ginny’s legs, but she kicked him in the mouth. He emitted a bone-chilling, ear-piercing scream that had to have echoed throughout the entire mountain and then some. It almost didn’t sound human. A moment later, Ginny saw why as he spat blood-soaked teeth from his mouth. She bent over. “Had enough?”
Fred continued to utter his pitiful wails, though Ginny had no pity for the pain she’d put him in.
“Get up and get lost, you pathetic piece of shit.”
Fred was now whimpering like a wounded animal as he struggled to pull himself to his feet. His shorts were torn, exposing what Ginny considered to be his half-assed manhood.
“Now, cock. You’re bleeding all over the damn place.” It gave her much pleasure to call him a cock after the way he, as well as other men, referred to women as cunts. It was about time women started taking men down a peg or two and showed them that they couldn’t and wouldn’t be bullied around. She felt certain that he’d be too scared to return at this point. Not unless he had a definite death wish. She also felt certain that she stood no chance of getting child support, and that was a bummer since kids were mighty expensive, but she’d rather lose the payments and for the child to have no father than to receive money while she and her little guy endured any more abuse and neglect. To say that she’d had enough was an understatement. Things had been rocky before she’d gotten pregnant, but ever since then, they’d been much, much worse.
Fred finally pulled himself up on his feet. Then, hunched over like an old man, he started down the dirt road, sorry as hell that he didn’t presently own a vehicle or a gun, but never as glad in his life that it wasn’t wintertime.
Satisfied, Ginny smiled and headed back inside.
“How adorably cute and cozy!” Lorella exclaimed as she eyed the cabin’s interior.
“That’s what I think, too,” said Noelle, glad to see how much the girl approved of the place.
The cabin’s layout was simple. There was a large room on the left side. A bathroom and kitchen were on the right, but only the bathroom was enclosed. The kitchen extended off the front of the main room. A small round table that seated two sat just outside the kitchen area, which was tiled with linoleum. A large Indian-print rug dominated most of the open area.
Lorella glanced upward. Over the bathroom and kitchen was a loft, presumably where Noelle slept.
“Want to check it out?” Noelle asked, following Lorella’s gaze.
“Sure,” Lorella said politely. Noelle motioned her to the ladder that led to the loft, and up she climbed as Noelle followed close behind. “It must be a pain to go down to the bathroom if you wake up having to pee at night,” Lorella said.
“Oh, no, not at all. You get used to it. The ladder has thick rungs, so that makes climbing it a lot like climbing regular stairs.”
The loft had just enough space for a double bed, a nightstand, and a long dresser that was against the railing, blocking the bed from view of those down below. A small closet stood above the bathroom area. It was a little stuffy, so Noelle cracked the tiny window towards the foot of the bed. If all went well, it would only get hotter, and so the more ventilation they had, the better, Noelle thought hopefully to herself.
“How’d you get the bed and dresser up here?” Lorella asked curiously.
“I threw it on up here,” Noelle said, then laughed. “No, seriously, we used a folding ladder and made a sort of scaffold out of it.”
“Oh,” Lorella laughed. She then gazed out the window. All she could see were dense thickets of pines, aspens, and evergreens. In some cases, she could only see as far as about ten feet; in others, it was more like fifty feet. “Wow, how neat it must be to see nothing but trees in any window of your home you look out of.” When she turned around, she found Noelle leaning against the dresser, eyes aflame with red-hot lust. Her pulse began to race as Noelle stepped toward her.
Noelle reached out and gently brushed back a few strands of hair and said, “You know, you really, really are a very beautiful girl, Miss Lorella.”
Lorella smiled. Madison had been a hot one, but Noelle was ten times hotter. “You’re quite a looker yourself, Officer Hutchins.”
Noelle gave a quick laugh, brought her lips to her ear, and said, “It’s Officer Hutchinson.”
“Oh,” Lorella said with a laugh of her own before Noelle’s lips met hers.
They kissed slowly yet deliberately. Lorella felt sparks within her she’d never felt before. With no hesitations, she gave herself fully to the woman whose hands were now tugging her shirt over her head. She took hold of the shirt and finished peeling it off while Noelle removed her own shirt. They kissed some more, and then Noelle’s hands were prying at the zipper of her jeans.
Now fully naked, Noelle stood back to inspect the package before her. “Lovely,” she said with a nod. “Very lovely.” She shucked her own jeans and embraced Lorella firmly. Her skin was soft, and her body was firm. She reached around her back to undo the clasp of her bra. Letting it fall to the floor, she cupped her breasts eagerly, sending waves of delight coursing through Lorella.
“Nice boobies,” said Noelle before she removed her sports bra and matching cotton panties. She then gently nudged Lorella onto the bed, who shimmied towards the center to make room for her.
Noelle slipped her fingers under the elastic waistband of the damp, silky panties Lorella still wore. Tossing them aside, she wasted no time seeking her most sensitive spot with her tongue.
Lorella moaned with pleasure, taken higher and higher at a surprisingly fast pace as Noelle sucked and lapped at her pussy with expertise. Just as she was about to cum, Noelle maneuvered her body above hers, teasing and tantalizing her with the long length of her boyishly sexy body.
Noelle was enjoying all of Lorella’s deliciously feminine curves, brushing her nipples against hers, both delighting and frustrating Lorella with a desire now so strong she thought she’d burst. “Please,” she gasped. “Do me now.”
“You and me both,” Noelle said in a breathy voice, desperate with her own need. After achieving sexual release, they lay breathing heavily against one another. It would be a while before their heartbeats slowed to normal.
“I’m amazed at how long it stays light up here,” Lorella said, watching Noelle pack a small wicker basket for their late afternoon picnic.
“Yeah, it stays light pretty late,” said Noelle, “but it’s dark around 5:00 in the winter. All set?”
Lorella nodded.
“Follow me then.”
Lorella could see that Noelle knew her way through the woods very well as they walked for nearly ten minutes before coming to rest at a spot near a large pond. They came upon it rather abruptly too, since most of the area they were in was so thickly treed you couldn’t see very far in any direction. There was a sudden gap in the trees, and there it was.
“Oh, how lovely!” Lorella exclaimed delightedly. “Do you ever go swimming here?”
“No way,” Noelle said. “There are leeches galore in that pond and all kinds of water snakes.”
Lorella made a face. “Too bad.”
“We can go to one of the public pools sometime.”
“Okay,” Lorella said as Noelle placed a blanket on the ground and set the basket in the center. “I’ll gather rocks to place on the corners of the blanket, so it won’t blow around in the wind.”
“Okay,” Noelle said with an amused smile.
With the blanket secure, Lorella sat down next to Noelle and slowly surveyed their surroundings in a circular motion. “It seems like there’s no one around for miles.”
“Well, we are quite remote, but I’m sure there are houses and cabins as close as a quarter to a half a mile from us. It just doesn’t seem that way because of all the trees. You have to really know your way around these woods so as not to get lost because it all looks the same. Just miles and miles of forest.”
“Do you work in Klamath Falls during the winter?”
“No, I work over in Bonanza. It’s a lot closer.”
“What does your dad do?”
“He’s a cop too, over there.”
“Ah, a family of cops, huh?”
Noelle nodded as she pulled the egg salad sandwiches they’d made from the basket. They unwrapped them and ate in silence for a while, enjoying the peacefulness of being one with nature before Lorella questioned Noelle about her mother. “Are your folks divorced?”
Noelle’s dark eyes suddenly darkened even more. She shook her head dubiously. Lorella debated changing the subject until Noelle began to speak. “She was shot and killed about ten years ago during a bank heist in Florida, where both she and Dad were vacationing. Dad still feels guilty as hell over the incident, not just because he was the one to survive, but because, as he puts it, he sat helplessly waiting for her in the car when it all happened.”
“What a nightmare,” Lorella said with empathy, “yet if he had been in there with her, you just may be without both parents today.”
“That’s what I told him.”
“Was the shooter ever caught?”
“Oh, yeah. They apprehended the bastard and his sick partner not long after he shot my mother as well as six others, four of whom he killed, and then fried his ass good a few years later. His sidekick only got life because he never pulled the trigger.” Noelle shook her head in disgust. “And they say God doesn’t make mistakes? Well, He does. He most certainly does.”
Lorella thought a moment, then said, “But God didn’t put the gun in the guy’s hand and pull the trigger for him, Noelle.”
“No, but He sure did let him, didn’t He?”
Lorella shrugged. She couldn’t deny that Noelle did have somewhat of a point. Just why did He allow so much catastrophe to occur in the world?
They finished eating, and Noelle’s mood lightened. She smiled adoringly at Lorella and said, “I love your hazel eyes.”
“Do you?”
Noelle nodded. “I like the way your hair is a nice deep shade of auburn indoors and a bright, fiery copper color outdoors.” She ran her fingers through the blazoned tresses.
Lorella leaned towards Noelle for a sweet kiss. A moment later, she said, “The more I like someone, the more curious I am about them. Even their exes.”
A flicker of emotion crossed Noelle’s features. Was it surprise? Worry? Annoyance? Whatever it was, it was gone as quickly as it had come.
“Have you been with many people?”
“About six, two of them guys. Most were short-term, except for Phil and the last one.”
“The last one?”
Noelle nodded. “Just some bitch who used me before she walked out on me.”
“Well, I’m glad we met. I just wish we lived in the same – oh my God!”
Noelle’s head spun around to see what had startled Lorella. It was a man. A half-toothless, bloody man in torn shorts.
Noelle quickly rose to her feet. “Hey, what happened, guy?”
“I n-need help.” The guy stopped, leaned over, placed his hands on his thighs, and struggled to catch his breath. “I wa-was attacked.”
“Attacked by who?”
“Some guy who dropped me off here,” he lied.
“Hey, I’m a forest ranger and a cop. I’ll get you some help.” Noelle turned to Lorella. “Stay here. I’m going to phone in for help on the cell phone. I promise I won’t be long.” She pulled the phone from her pocket as she led the guy through the woods.
Lorella watched as they were swallowed up by the dense underbrush. She then glanced around uneasily, feeling isolated and a bit vulnerable as well.
“Look, buddy,” Noelle told the guy once they were out of earshot, “I don’t know what’s going on with you and I really don’t care. All I know is that I don’t want any trouble. I’m trying to enjoy a peaceful picnic with my girl and I’m sure she’s rather apprehensive about being left alone.”
“Just please, lady. Please, let’s go to your cabin so I can wash up and rest until help arrives.”
Noelle shot a startled look at the man. “How the hell did you know I had a cabin here?”
“Well, you obviously didn’t drive here today, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you a few times in a navy SUV pulling out of a drive marked Hutchinson or something like that.”
Noelle’s anger kicked into high gear. “Yeah? Well, let me just set you straight on one thing right now, pal.”
The man looked at her warily.
“I ain’t getting no blood all over my place for one. Secondly, I’m not leaving my girl alone long enough to get to a landline phone to call…”
“Let’s go back and get the bitch and take her with us!” the guy demanded in a panic, spittle of blood flying everywhere.
Noelle dodged the spray. “Because I don’t want to lose any time to cater to your goddamn needs just because you no doubt had to be a challenging little smart ass who provoked God knows who. I also suggest you watch your filthy mouth before I knock out the rest of your teeth.”
The guy looked at Noelle both fearfully and angrily. He was getting awfully sick of being pushed around by women, them damn bitches!
Lorella’s heart nearly stopped as the trees rustled across the pond. She breathed a heavy sigh of relief when she saw a deer come into view. She studied it with admiration. It was a lovely animal. The deer stopped to give her a once-over as well before taking off the same way it had appeared.
A moment later, two shabby men with rifles appeared. Lorella froze as the men glanced around the pond, eyes coming to settle upon her.
“Have you any idea where that deer ran?” asked one of them.
“That way,” Lorella lied, pointing away from where the deer had run.
The men took off running, large potbellies bouncing along the way and slowing them down.
Noelle realized she could just leave the guy and return to Lorella, but she feared he would simply follow her. Either that or he might seek revenge by burning the cabin down or something similar to that once he finally did get help and was patched up.
“Aw, c’mon, lady, just please help me out. You don’t live far. Please? I’ll come back and clean whatever I mess up, even bring you some dough…”
“I said no!” Noelle shouted, cutting him off. “I don’t have time for this shit. I’m sorry you’re hurt, man, really I am, but I don’t have time to come to your rescue right now, you hear? Just keep on walking and follow the trail. You obviously know your way around here, so you should know that you’ll reach the road in just a matter of minutes. Someone will pick you up there.”
“Oh, fuck you, bitch!” the guy screamed.
He spat on Noelle’s shirt. Now she was furious. “You crazy asshole! You just fucked up bad, man, real bad.” She started to reach for the gun that was in her leg holster but thought better of it. Lorella would hear the shots, and the bullets would be traced right back to her if they were ever found. Not wanting to make any physical contact with the bastard if she could help it, she swooped down and picked up a large rock.
The guy’s eyes widened.
Noelle grinned. “Wanna challenge me now, shithead?”
The guy began to back away but tripped over a gnarled root of a large tree that protruded from the ground. He landed in a tangle of brush.
Good, thought Noelle. The more brush that concealed him until the wildlife could take care of him, the better.
She kicked him hard. He tried to scramble to his feet and run, but he slipped again, then crawled under some heavy underbrush in hopes of protecting himself. That was when Noelle brought the rock down upon his skull as hard as she could. Once she was sure the guy was dead, she placed the rock far enough away from the body, planning to return for it later and toss it in the pond. She then headed back for Lorella, glad the asshole wouldn’t get the chance to ruin a good time after all, and maybe even jeopardize her chances of talking Lorella into moving into the cabin with her. She didn’t care how premature some people would say it was. She loved Lorella and she knew it. She was the girl she wanted, and by God, she was going to have her no matter what the cost!
Lorella’s head snapped towards the sound she heard. Oh, please be Noelle and not a bear or a mountain lion! she silently prayed. She was glad to see that it was indeed Noelle who broke out of the woods, but she was not so sure what the blood that was all over her shirt was.
“Everything’s okay,” Noelle assured her right away.
“Did you get him help?” asked Lorella.
Noelle nodded. “I hate to cut this wonderful outing short, but given the mess he made all over me, we gotta head back now.”
Lorella helped Noelle gather stuff up. “So what happened to him?”
“He said he got into a fight with a friend, is all,” Noelle said, trying to keep the apprehension from her voice.
“But how’d you manage to get him help? I thought cell phones didn’t usually work up here?”
Noelle glanced at Lorella. Smart little one, aren’t ya? “Well, actually, we managed to get to the cabin. I called for help from there.”
“Wow, in such a short time, you got to the cabin, called for help, waited for the ambulance, and…”
“No, that’s not quite the way it happened,” Noelle said, thinking quickly and trying to keep the irritation from her voice as the two made their way back to the cabin. “I insisted he let me call an ambulance, but he begged me not to. Said he had a fear of hospitals and all that, so he had me call his brother instead. Since the brother isn’t familiar with the area, he told me not to bother waiting and that he’d sit by the road where he wouldn’t be missed and just wait for him there.”
“But he was really bleeding badly. Shouldn’t he at least see a dentist? I mean, how’s he going to deal with those missing teeth all by himself?”
Noelle shrugged. “Who knows? Just be glad it’s not our problem.”
“Why are we taking a different way back?” Lorella asked, suddenly realizing they were following a different trail.
“Just for variety. It’s only an extra minute or two out of the way.”
“I thought you were in a hurry to get back and cleaned up.”
“I am, but as I said, it’s only an extra minute or so.” Noelle forced a smile, although she was still pissed. Now she couldn’t ask Lorella to stay overnight because she had to take care of the rock and do a better job of hiding the body. It wasn’t in as remote a place as the other one was, which was by now no doubt a mere scattering of bones no one would ever find.
Noelle wasted no time changing into a clean shirt once they arrived at the cabin. “I’m just going to throw this one away,” she said, placing it in the trash bin.
“I’m amazed the guy didn’t get blood on the floor or walls,” Lorella said.
Damnit, Lorella, you don’t miss a thing!
“I’m sure there’s a drop here and there that we haven’t found yet,” Noelle said with a smile. Trying to calm herself, she said, “I’m sorry we lost time to this thing.”
“Oh, it’s okay. I mean, when someone needs help, they need help, right?”
Noelle nodded, sorry to see that Lorella wasn’t as disappointed as she was over their spoiled afternoon. Any moment of time they lost together was like an hour to her. “I would have loved to invite you to stay the night, but you see, I’ve been up since six this morning, and so I wouldn’t be much fun.”
“Up early, huh?” said Lorella.
“Yeah, and so all I’d do is end up falling asleep on you, and since I’d hate to do that, perhaps I should drive you back before I start getting tired.”
“Okay. This would probably be best. I don’t even have a change of clothes or my toothbrush and things like that. Nor would I want to impose on you.”
“You could never do that,” Noelle insisted as they headed out.
Once on the road, Noelle tried to uphold a cheery mood. “I had a wonderful time despite the interruption.”
“Me too,” Lorella said, gazing over at Noelle. “Perhaps I’ll see you around before I leave.”
Oh, you’ll see me around, alright. “Well, of course, you will. You don’t think I’d let you get away with one-night-standing me, do ya?”
Lorella giggled. “Nah, even though it’d be more like one-afternoon-standing you.”
They both laughed this time around.
Lorella decided to fill Shalinda in by phone that night, rather than by email.
“So, you guys got it on?” Shalinda asked eagerly.
“Oh yeah.”
“Ooh! Tell me about it, girl. I want details. It doesn’t matter that you’re gay and I’m not. I still want to hear it.”
“We did the thing two women usually do and then some! It was fun. She really knows how to please a lady. I’m just sorry she lives up here and not down there.”
“Well, maybe you oughta think of staying up there then,” Shalinda suggested.
“I’m not that desperate,” Lorella told her.
“One doesn’t have to be desperate to stay near someone they like.”
“I’ll miss her, but it’s not like we’re madly in love with each other.”
“What if she falls in love with you?”
Lorella stopped to consider that possibility. “I don’t see how she could fall for me in such a short time. What about you? Anything good come your way?”
“Of course not. How could you ask such a silly question? But there is some good news, and that’s that my parents are getting along better.”
“Well, that’s always good to hear.”
They spoke a while longer until Lorella realized just how beat she was, despite how great she felt at the same time. She sent a quick email to her folks, said goodbye to Trevor and Shayla as they were leaving for Shayla’s place, and fell fast asleep.
