'There is classes this Saturday.' He said gloomily.
'Oh.' Fay and Grady said nonchalantly. Both of them have classes on Saturdays unlike him.
'And what for?' Grady asked.
'They say it's for an acquaintance something party for the sister schools. Exclusive only for the Seniors. ' he chomped on his food mercilessly.
'Doesn't that mean...' Grady said to Fay. Her eyes wide with anticipation.
'Boys?'
'No classes?' They said in unison.
'Hey!' Byrne said.
'Crap...' Grady takes out her small circular mirror and looks at her reflection. 'I haven't got any proper sleep in like weeks. Are the dark circles evident, Byrne. Are they?'
'That also mean we would do games with other students from the sister schools?'
'Most likely. Also heard that they would be coming here to do it. I don't want to go.'
Fay gives him a look, then quickly glances to Grady then back at him. She raises up an eyebrow. He slowly shakes his head. Fay widens her eyes.
SATURDAY
Fay stood with mouth half agape in the midst of a busy crowd.
They had really done it this time. She thought.
She had never seen the premises so full of life before. There were about 500 more students loitering around and there large tarpaulins welcoming and praising students and organizations on various corners being held up or displayed to a wall.
Who.. wait are they from an international school?
There were a number of foreign students laughing and staying under the shade of a tree. Her eyes landed on a guy who has black hair, tanned skin, bushy brows, and long nose. She couldn't clearly see his eyes but she was certain they were light caramel.
A large hand suddenly landed on her shoulder making her flinch in surprise. But before she could turn around the person leaned close to the nape of her neck and gave it a blow of air. She felt her skin crawl.
She hears him laughing hard. She curled her hand to fists and turned around ready to swing that ball of flesh and bones into his face and stopped.
It was Kharel.
And he looks different.
Not the usual brooding aura he emits but something new she has never seen on him before. He looked jolly?, cheerful might be the right word. It makes him look more... attractive.
Whoa... just what am I thinking?! She slapped herself mentally. She looked back up at him again and her vision was filled with bright light. Shit. Get a hold of yourself!
She tightly closed her eyes and pretended to rub her eyes. Thankfully, when she opened them again she felt like she could now control much of her senses. That doesn't mean she was no longer distracted of him though. She checks him out wondering what was so new that made this kind of feeling inside her. He was wearing their PE uniform. Nothing special in that. He rolled up his sleeve showing his well toned muscles on his arm. Most guys have that. Well, she could see hints of his collar bones protruding out from the neck of his shirt and the silver necklace he seems to wear every time. He always wear dark colored hoodies over his uniform and he matches it with his brooding expression so this version of him might exist after all. He even styles his hair showing his well shaped brows.
He looks like a fucking model! She thought. Well, not that extra God blessed beauty to the level of extreme. I admit he is good looking.
'Good Morning. Woke up early?'
'Urgh... yeah. Sort of. I was too tired yesterday and slept early then woke up early than I want to. How about you?'
'It's my first time having this kind of event at school so I don't know what to expect. It kept me up most of the evening.'
'Didn't know you were into social stuff.'
'Well, I'm sorry if I had made that kind of expression on you. Disappointed?'
'Not really. By the way, why do you look so...?'
'What?'
'Cheerful. Did something happen? Have you met with the people you told me about before?' She said, feigning innocence. No way, there was no way she was going to admit something stupid like that.148Please respect copyright.PENANALfBgdd5zmK
He paused for a while at this and looks like he was thinking about it.
'Hmm... you can say that. I don't know either. I just feel better last evening. You know like mood swings.' He tucks his hands inside his pants pocket and blows in the air making a little smoke out of it.
'It's cold but the sun's all on us today.'
'I guess so.'
'Right, do you mind if I stay beside you? Ruelle ditched me here.'
She gives him a lopsided smile and nods. They were at the far side of the sunken garden where it was practically just a soccer field bordered by old large acacia trees. She squats down and crosses her legs looking far at the busy crowds below them. He sits down beside her and does the same thing.
'Do you enjoy observing?' He said after a while. She was so preoccupied staring at the foreign students and the guy with the dark hair she didn't notice him staring at her.
'A bit. Ok. It's a habit, I admit. It feels like I am warped in a story without words forgetting who I am or where I am just forgetting my reality and I become a third person in that story. Just looking, wondering, observing. I mean, have you even been near a foreign students before? I haven't. I might sound like an ignorant person but when I look even just one of them I can almost feel the culture, the different upbringing they have flowing out from them. That's probably the reason why my eyes keep going back at them.' She slapped herself mentally for blabbering too much.148Please respect copyright.PENANAjiL8B1VSRP
She noticed the strong gust of wind moving towards them. She starts to hold down her hair before she heard him reply.
'I think you look a bit foreign yourself, Fay.' His voice sounded like a whisper and far away. She squinted at his calm stoic face and looked at her feet. She chuckled at this.
Both of them heard a voice announcing and calling all the students that are scattered to proceed to the soccer field immediately. He stood up first before stretching out his hand. She looks at it for a moment, confused. When their hands touched, her hand and arm felt warm. And then there was this numbing feeling all over her nerves.
Why does it feel so familiar?
