richard took off the blindfold and looked at his gun. It was scratched and had worn paint in places, but it was the weapon he had chosen. And he was damn good with it.
he snapped his fingers and shoved the gun into a portal. He’d be able to get it back anytime and plus it was a bit awkward to carry around in public.
Richard leaned back against the tree he was sitting by and thought for a second. If Daniel was Project II then who was Project I?
he thought for a few more seconds then remembered Dario, who’d shown him a room filled with computers, and other perephenalia.
he grinned. Dario had said he was good with computers. Maybe he could help.
richard closed his eyes and disappeared. He appeared in Dario’s room where Dario was sitting at his computer playing video games.
”knock knock?” Said Richard as he tapped Dario’s shoulder.
dario pretty much jumped out of his chair while choking on a pop tart.
”where the da’gum did you come from?” He asked when he stopped choking.
“Daniels,” said Richard. “I thought you might be able to help me with something technical.”
”such as?”
”hacking government files.”
“That’s easy,” said Dario. “My dad worked on a contract in Ottawa and had pretty much unlimited access to their systems. There may be a few back doors I can exploit.”
“Awesome,” said Richard.
”follow me,” said Dario as he led he way out of the room and towards the basement.
when they reached the basement he opened a door and thy entered a room that was filled with everything a hacker needed to keep himself happy for a few years of hacking.
dario say down at a computer and started typing. “What are we looking for?” He asked after a few minutes.
”anything related to the Project Experiments,” said Richard.
”Dario typed for a minute then sat back. “There’s nothing except an audio recording stored on an almost unused server. Wherever the experiments are storing their files they’re not here.”
”let’s see the video then,” said Richard.
dario pressed a button and a voice started speaking.
”good day, Prime Minister. This is Agent 213. I am pleased to report the success of projects I and II. Both have had permo steroids injected into their bodies. Giving them strength we’ll beyond that of a normal human. They have also had their joints and bones replaced or reinforced with mechanical versions. Giving them the required tensile strength to perform incredible feats. Project II alone was able to carry a thousand pounds for a hundred feet. The projects will continue to be performed, each one better than the last. As an added precaution I am embedding a tracker in the code for this recording to prevent anyone who gains access to it from going unpunished. That is all.”
The recording ended and Richard stepped back. “We need to leave. Agent 213 has a response time of ten minutes for anywhere in Canada.”
”just a sec,” said Dario. “I need to grab something.”
dario led the way back to his room and reaching under the bed grabbed a gun belt with two holstered pistols and a dozen spare mags.
”ok I’m-“ he started to say as an arrow shattered he window and stuck in the bedpost. The arrow emitted a whining sounds and Richard grabbed Dario and teleported just as it blew up.
