I wrote this story for another publication and it didn't get accepted so here it is on here. What can I do to improve, is this really bad or just okay?

The story details the journey of boy who seeks to the power of magic, a skill lost to myth and forgotten by most. He's on an expedition to one of the last places of the old magical world, the Aion Temple.
