I have never understood why,

Pain has a flavor close to that of death.

How it can ruin the hearts of many,

In one convenient sweep,

In one rush-

In a breath stronger than,

The last one we take.

I have never understood why,

We seek to destroy each other.

With a word, with a shout -

That resonates in your lungs.

The kind that makes your lungs feel as though -

They'll collapse.

It's easy.

Your words went from sweet;

From kind and generous -

To murderous and cruel.

There was no effort in your kill,

Just a raging silence,

And a bell signaling our end.

It goes off in our heads, though -

We can't hear it.
