Our steps were muffled as people sat with solemn faces, chewing their nails while being completely indifferent towards the time. The minute hand had stopped moving on the dusty clock near the entrance and the second hand had broken in half.
I successfully left the bathroom without any makeup on and my proud strides glowed as I heard Evvie groan behind me.
"Oh my god, it was like a war in there. You're stubborn as hell."
I stuffed my hands into my pocket. "Why thank you. I'll take it and place it right in my heart."
She opened her mouth of disbelief, but gave up and continued walking. We separated quite momentarily and I began to scrutinize the area carefully, patrolling this shady-ass casino. But as time passed by, I slowly found myself intently watching the carpet floor, which slowly led myself to sit and screw around with the machines. At first, I questioned Evvie's background, since I saw her thoughtlessly sit down and simply gamble. As if there was nothing wrong and that nothing bad could happen. But I slowly let it slide, planning on asking her later.
And of course, I didn't deal with any money since I knew I only had so much to last me through the "journey." And I didn't want to show up to Mom penniless and starving.
I just couldn't. It would break her heart and mine as well.
My eyes were on the brink of closing since I had absolutely nothing to do when in the corner of my eyes, I saw a hint of Evvie's letterman jacket shake furiously. I spun around towards her, but she was gone.
"Evvie?"
I began to ran when I heard her scream that was interrupted halfway, and without a second thought, I dashed towards the direction she was dragged to, clutching my backpack strap.
The stars were out, yawning as my breath began to quiver and my heart beginning to shudder. The alley was pitch black, sucking in all the leftover light from the faint moon. I heard an abrupt scream in the darkness and saw a following pair of eyes.
But they weren't just a regular pair of eyes
The pupils were fiery with rage and slight confusion, looking back and forth. At first, they were wide open, but it soon became dangerous slits of bright white and orange and red with growls below them. I staggered back, lost in space and terrified as hell. Suddenly, it made a sharp movement and threw bruised and unconscious Evvie into the air, landing right on top of me. And before I checked Evvie to see if she was okay, the figure walked out of the shadows ever so slowly. But it had no facial or physical features other than the menacing eyes. It changed shape every second, once into a silhouette of a young woman, then a man, then a child, and so on. It finally pounced in half a second and with my last exhale, I used my arm to uselessly shield me.
The moment its knife-like fingers brushed against my forearm, sparks flew, flames exploded. I slowly opened one eye, my arm and hand still shaking in the moonlight. The shadow figure was violenting glitching, the vanta black surface slowly eroding.
I turned my back from it and buried my face into Evvie's chest, which smelled of lavenders and home. And for a split second, the terror, the glitching nightmare, lost Mom. They were nonexistent. But an unfamiliar voice stopped it all.
"Finally. I found you."

Yeah, thanks for reading! I actually didn't think anyone would read this story... so thanks! Even one read makes my day! *shakes head at desperate and sad self*
Frankly, my lazy self can't look at my stories before or my plans so if you spot some weird part that doesn't make sense, just tell me, cos I would do that myself.
