My eyes followed the only track within such darkness towards its shoes. The heels were like black holes, swallowing all available light. My forearm bleeding nonstop and my sleeve punctured with its edges singed. It was as if the blood had all my energy and was leaving from my body like they were leaving for a trip, far, far away.
Everything was like a noir movie with the full, illuminating moon standing still, Evvie laying helpless and her heartbeats slowing down to a stop. It was only the beginning of my "journey." Something that I had wanted, quickly swirving into a disaster.
I was just about ready to give up, but as I flinched my lifeless arm, the monster flew back, leaving broken leaves all over my face and Evvie's legs. With the last of my strength, I forced on a glare towards the creature, growling if I could. But my glaring eyes slowly softened in disbelief. He was sprawled on the ground with second or third degree burns all over and blood everywhere. Just portions of his wings still left, slowly subsiding into the darkness. He looked normal under those wounds as his breathing became heavy. I was the only one out of three of us that was conscious. Evvie, I needed to get help for her, right now. I needed to get up...
Get up.
I unlocked my phone with quivering fingers, feeling a stream of blood trail towards the earth from the unevitable curse of gravity. The ringtone sounded, and as I waited rather impatiently, I saw his weak hand reach out. At that moment, thinking was not an option, so with my phone stuck between my shoulder and cheek, I dragged the guy first and then Evvie away from the deep end of the alley. Sirens wailed, my vision blurring. It was only a matter of time before we got to the street. So that they could find us.
Muffled screams. A certain chime ringing. My legs beginning to feel as if they had never existed.
And for the grand finale, the bone-chilling thump.
