After Koban finished giving his report to D, D decided to hire a bodyguard to help protect him in case he gets attacked again. D already had a person in mind as he walked through the urban parts of Decorous. While D was walking through the city, he notices that the street ahead of him was blocked by a crowd. Normally D would avoid crowds, but his curiosity got the better of him this time ; he ducks down to look through the legs to get a glimpse of the scene. D could barely see a body chopped up with its limbs scattered in the area near the body.

Oddly enough, despite the arms and legs missing from the main body, there were no blood to be seen. As D's mind was processing the information, he suddenly felt someone grabbing him up and pulling him away from the crowd. D looked to see a beautiful young girl with long black hair, red halter top and shorts, but most noticeably, was the axe that the girl was holding that was sightly dulled and bits of chips were broken off from constant use.

“I thought I would never see you in this area!” exclaimed the girl. “That's because I was looking for you” said D. In a playful voice, “Oh! You're here to give me a confession? Well, I'm sorry to say this but I'm out of your league”with a slight smile and eyelids half closed as the girl said this. “That's not what I came here to ask you for!” denied D.

The girl that D was talking to was Pyrris, the younger twin sister of the captain of Vindicate. Pyrris and her sister are part of a family who specializes in fighting with swords. Pyrris' older sister managed to perform with the sword to their parent's expectations. However, Pyrris struggled with trying to use a sword properly. After years of failing, Pyrris gave up and left the family to find a different weapon that would suit her better. Months later, after Pyrris left the family, she came back carrying an axe over her shoulder.

Pyrris' parents were disappointed that she came back with an axe, yet they allowed her to stay in the family with hopes that she would master the sword instead. It never happened; Pyrris left the family once more as she felt uncomfortable being with her family that doesn't approve of her fighting style with the axe. Pyrris latter became a mercenary to support herself and developed the feelings of joy from seeing her victims' fear and begging for mercy before she struck them with her axe.

One day, her target was D, the employer's purpose was to kill D so Vindicate would be weakened enough so it wouldn't cause trouble for the employer later on. Pyrris knew that her sister was the captain of Vindicate, but accepts it anyway so she could get money and to see Dat in fear. Unexpectedly, Pyrris found herself in frustration from being unable to kill D as she was not used to fighting someone who was agile enough to dodge her axe attacks. Eventually her employer dismissed her after several weeks passed without any progress. Pyrris' sister Liliana decided to have her join Vindicate so they could bond with each other as sisters when they couldn't while their family members were around. Pyrris reluctantly agrees while hoping that she could cause D pain physically and mentally while she is a member. At first Dawas very cautious of Pyrris, but warmed up to her after years of fighting alongside her.

What am I going to do if that happens!” Pyrris looks normal again, “Is something you were hoping to see and hear right?” “Fine, how about I'll let you cause me pain however you want to?” “Couldn't I just do that whenever I want to without becoming your bodyguard?” “True, but I won't complain or run away.” “All right” said Pyrris quickly before D could change his mind.

It was nighttime by the time D and Pyrris returned to the Vindicate Agency building. D was prepared to go to sleep in his room while Pyrris keeps watch. “Okay D, you sleep well so that I can torture you later when you're in good condition...” “Um... That's not very reassuring...” D pulls up his blanket and attempts to sleep.

A few minutes later, he can feel his blanket slowly being pulled away, then felt something quickly going across his throat. D woke up immediately and his upper body went up, D then saw Pyrris holding her axe over his bed aimed over where D’s neck was... D and Pyrris stare at each other until Pyrris decided to talk “Um... congrats! You passed!” she said with a smile and both of her arms up as if she was at a party celebrating something. “What did I passed?” asked D suspiciously. “I was testing you to see if an enemy could attack you if I was gone!”

D got up, put on his glasses, and walked towards a mirror mounted on the wall. He discovers a red line across his throat. “What the heck!? I thought you're suppose to protect me! Not chop off my head!” Pyrris looks offended, “How dare you suggest such a thing!? I'd make sure that the only person that causes you pain and fear is myself!” What was I thinking when I hired her as my bodyguard...? D couldn't sleep for the rest of the night.
