Ilmar ran as fast as his could and that still wasn't enough. Senfaerians flew away from the market, screaming and screeching as the crowds dispersed. Now, where the buzzing marketplace used to be was a huge Leigare. That was enough to make Ilmar dizzy.
His breath became shallow. Unlike the Firamen's, this one was thrice the size of Veloras houses, brutal-looking and dangerous. Its black scale protruded behind it like a huge rock. Ilmar knew instantly it was not them. They could not do something like this. They wouldn't.
He scanned the area for his father. Infront of the huge monster, was dozens of guards, prepared to attack. And he spotted him behind their formation. "Father!"
"Ilmar!" His father eyes went wide, "WHAT A-"
The dragon turned to face Ilmar. He stood rooted to the ground, unable to move. The dragon roared and drew its head back. The next thing Ilmar knew, he was thrown sideways, pushed by someone.
"Are you crazy?!"
Ilmar couldn't answer, he was thankful that Keyle threw them both aside because where they stood moments ago was pooled with black substances- and they were eating the ground.
The dragon tilted its head sideways and faced Ilmar again, preparing to attack.
"ATTACK!" He heard his father said and the guard launched projectiles at it. Ilmar stood up. He could tell the dragon was more annoyed than hurt that he let out another roar and faced the guards. In times like these, he felt useless. Really useless.
Keyle tugged his hand. "Let's go! They can handl-"
"No they can't!"
He wanted to run toward his father and act as distractions but something... something happened that caused him to shield his eyes.
Behind him, Illmar heard Keyle mumbling "Can't see. Can't see." Over and over. A blinding white light had covered them all.
When it dimmed down, the guards was thrown away and his father lay sprawled on the ground. Ilmar cringed. The dragon had dispersed, the black substance vanished and on the centre was a girl.
He fell down to his knees. His father. He shook his head. They can't be dead. "Ilm-Ilmar...is that a girl? How did she- your father."
He buried his face in his hand. Useless then and useless now, he thought. He wanted to disappear. The stupid, idle future Vanguard. He even failed to save his own father. How was that supposed to make him loved by the citizens of Veloras? He felt his shoulder being tapped. Keyle.
He opened his eyes and he was glad. There, his father and the guards sat up, trying to stand up.
His father stood up, "T-Take her to the dungeons!"
After that, he drilled his eyes at Ilmar. He knew even his own father doubted his skills. He was afterall, defective. Apart from the fear instilled in them, he grew more in isolation. He wanted to disappear. The best way to do that? To faint. To sleep and to dream. Like he does most of the time.
