Holy cow’s tits! Itachi … what?!
A’right, add another reason to a slew of reasons that make Itachi the worst written character in the entire manga:
Itachi states here that he knew that Sasuke would try to take his eyes for power, correct? Why would Sasuke do that? According to Itachi himself, he didn’t even know in the past that Madara (Obito/Tobi) knew the full truth:
Which begs the questions: why would Sasuke attack Konoha when Itachi himself didn’t know that Tobi knew the truth? Why would Sasuke ask for the eyes of a man who killed his whole clan and whom he wanted to kill to complete his revenge and who the whole of Konoha, Sasuke included, thought to be a traitor? Why would Itachi tell Naruto that Sasuke could attack Konoha at all? Why would Sasuke attack Konoha when Sasuke wanted to kill Madara and Tobi didn’t know the full truth in his eyes?
This is backed by Itachi’s and Obito’s conversation in the manga:
Which begs the question that why would Itachi try and kill Obito through a trap Amaterasu when he thought he didn’t know anything? Itachi himself looks positively shocked that why would Sasuke go against the village?
This is fully backed by Obito’s conversation with Sasuke:
Obito confirms that he never told Itachi the complete truth about himself, and Itachi died not knowing. And why would Sasuke join Madara without knowing the full truth of the matter when he told Itachi that he’d kill Madara, too, for killing the clan?
Now, Obito isn’t reading the manga, so he wouldn’t know. That would explain why Itachi wanted to kill Madara through Sasuke ’cause Sasuke told him that he’d seek him out to kill him. He planted the Amaterasu so that when Sasuke came face to face with Madara/Tobi, his Amaterasu would kill him, making Sasuke the ultimate hero. So with both of them dead, why would Sasuke take Itachi’s eyes and attack Konoha … at all? What’s even the purpose of that “Protect Konoha” command (that’s not what Shisui meant when he said that to you, idiot)? Oh my fucking God! Why is this character so mindbogglingly stupid?!
In a span of under about a dozen chapters (Itachi and Sasuke’s battle and the subsequent “truth reveal”) and just two chapters (549 and 550), this character managed to completely obliterate itself many times over.
And that’s not all: why would Sasuke need to speak to Itachi to confirm past events when he can already see Itachi’s memories through his Sharingan:
You know what? You can dislike Sasuke all you want, but his character makes sense; but what sort of clown-drugs are you people huffing if you think that this is good writing, or if you think that this makes any sense whatsoever? Then you guys wonder why sensible people make fun of your questionable devotion to the idea that Itachi’s … gasp … well-written. You shouldn’t be surprised. It’s a natural course of events, unlike the character you like that contradicts itself in mere two chapters let alone his schizophrenic turns in the entire manga.
