AWPerator
Guided Cabalist (Magic [Chromatic] Striker)
Atheist
American (Italian)
Fun fact: AWPerator is a walking Counterstriker reference. From his counter-terrorist equipment, to his name (the AWP is the most powerful sniper-rifle in the game), to his comment that he was “glad he spent the extra $350 at the spawn point to grab the helmet with his Kevlar” (in the spawn point, you can choose to buy a Kevlar vest for $650, or a vest and helmet for $1,000). He also talkers in “gamer slang”, and it’s in the canon that he’s treating BRYZ as an FPS, not an RPG.
(M)Alice (Adéla)
Unseen Lurker (Other [Psychic] Striker)
Secular Humanist
Czech
Fun fact: Adéla is, in fact, a Czech form of Alice. Her mother was always close to her older brother, (M)Alice’s uncle, Nekonečno. Since he generally made time to stop by on Sundays, (M)Alice also ended up having a close relationship with her uncle, and they often gamed together. Thar’s why when he started the Cutpurses, she was quick to join up. She was planning on going to the US to study criminal psychology.
Daft_Puns
Barkskin Scion (Other [Contract] Frontliner)
Hindu
Indian
Fun fact: Although Daft_Puns speaks in “Mmmph”s in the Penana version of BRYZ, he actually has spoken lines in my original document, just with the font shrunk tiny to simulate how hard it is to hear him through his mask. Unfortunately, Penana wouldn’t let me change the font sizes, so I had to improvise. He was originally going to be a Spore Scion, fighting with a big mushroom on his back that would spread spores everywhere (hence his gas mask), but for logistical reasons, he was changes to the other subclass.
Gr3g
Cavalier Dragoon (Magic [Chromatic] Frontliner)
Atheist
Canadian (English-Irish)
Fun fact: Upon joining BRYZ and finding out that there was no option to change your race, Gr3g was thoroughly disappointed in the whole game, left a scathing review on BRYZ’s website, and set about using cosmetics to make himself look like an elf. It’s too bad, because if he had lived to book 3, he would’ve seen the Race Update roll out, and he could’ve become an elf-like race for real, such as an Einsdroff or a Khyribite. RIP.
The Chief (Juraj Svoboda)
Rampart Pugilist (Martial [Equipment] Defender)
Antitheist
Czech
Fun fact: The Chief started out as a drug dealer in Prague at a young age, quickly working his way up from a street-pusher to a lieutenant, thanks to his tendency to volunteer himself for dangerous and difficult jobs, not uncommonly involving eliminating rivals and settling turf disputes. However, when his gang picked a fight with a much larger organization and everything went sideways, The Chief faked his own death and fled the city, throwing his lot in with the cybercriminal organization Basilisk. He loves opera, because the landlady that raised him used to listen to it on an old record player and sing along with him, and he dreams of one day retiring to Milan and spending his days visiting La Scala.
Vibe_Czech
Elite Hypaspist (Martial [Equipment] Defender)
Pantheist
Czech
Fun fact: She’s a classmate of (M)Alice and good friend of hers, who often joins her and Nekonečno in their gaming sessions, with Vibe_Czech running defense, (M)Alice running offense, and Nekonečno running support. After the battle, when she found out that (M)Alice’s account was lost, she began trying to see if there was any way she could transfer her own account to (M)Alice, so she could still go to college in America.
Nightslayr
Stonekin Gargoyle (Other [Nature] Hit-Taker)
Calvinist
Canadian (Filipino)
Fun fact: An aspiring poet, Nightslayr has no problems sitting in one spot in statue-form for hours on end, composing prose. This makes him actually ideal for guard duty, and its very common for him to stay logged in, even when he’s not playing. He invested in a skill that alerts him when it detects enemy movement, so he can effectively guard his post 24/7, logging in only when there’s an issue.
Rampardner
Layered Hoplomachus (Martial [Prowess] Hit-Taker]
Baptist (SBC)
American (Portuguese-German)
Fun fact: Second-oldest of eleven children, Rampardner has a natural tendency to assume a “big brother” role for himself, considering it his duty to look after the younger members of the Cutpurses, and make sure nobody gets hurt. A gentle soul, he was worried about The Chief’s influence on Nekonečno, and was going to, along with Ifrit, advise him to cut ties with the man. Often played chess over tea with SickleSoul, his fellow Baptist.
Melvin
Mad Bomber (Martial [Equipment] Controller)
Atheist
American (French-Norwegian)
Fun fact: His dad is a pyrotechnician, so Melvin grew up with a love of fire and explosives. However, after an incident involving a Cincinnati fire kite, Melvin was banned from his “experiments”, and was forced to turn to BRYZ for an opportunity to continue his craft. Classmates and best friends with MC.
Deep6
Elemental Incarnate (Magic [Chromatic] Controller)
Agnostic (Formerly Mormon)
American (Finnish-Russian)
Fun fact: She tried unsuccessfully to make it as a YouTuber, a Streamer, and a V-Tuber. She's currently staying at her lawyer older sister’s place and working part-time and playing BRYZ while she sorts her life out. Considered become an E-Girl for the interim, but her older sister threatened to throw her out if she did.
Polygraph_Jazz
Reality Diffuser (Magic [Chromatic] Afflicter)
Naturalist
Argentinian
Fun fact: His ability NIGHTMARE-TWISTED RAPTURE, or NTR, is a gag, as “NTR” stands for “netorare”, a Japanese genre that could translate roughly to “steal yo’ girl”. It’s fitting because Polygraph_Jazz did, in fact, steal Tenshi. Going with the Rapture theme, I did base the ability timeframe on the numerology concerning the Rapture… but I also forgot what exactly that was, or how I calculated it, so whoops.
Jörmungandr
Fossorial Hive (Other [Contract] Afflicter)
Lutheran
American (Danish)
Fun fact: Jörmungandr named all his main snakes himself. Sven and Gjerta were his left and right leg, Bjørn and Lærke were his left and right arm, and Skarde was the one around his chest. Also, Vibeke was the name of the tiny snake in his mouth that Marie chomped, a fitting name as it means “little woman”.
SickleSoul
Nanobot Surgeon (Martial [Technology] Healer)
Baptist (SBC)
American (African-American)
Fun fact: SickleSoul is a full-time housewife with four kids, three girls, one boy. Her husband is a physics professor, and SickleSoul herself has a fashion design degree, which she puts to use designing outfits for herself and her family. She likes to discuss world issues over tea and chess with Rampardner.
Ifrit
Hermit Fakir (Other [Psychic] Healer)
Sunni Muslim
Moroccan (French-Moroccan)
Fun fact: Along with Rampardner, he was going to convince Nekonečno to cut ties with The Chief. However, unbeknownst to Rampardner, he was planning on going one step further and assassinating The Chief. He had been gathering information on him, shadowing him, and leveling up, all for that purpose. He even managed to identify the other members of Basilisk among the Cutpurses, that being Polygraph_Jazz and The Sandman. He hid it under his easygoing manner, but Ifrit cared deeply about his teammates, and was proud to be their healer, the one ultimately responsible for keeping them alive.
MC
Hip-Hop Artiste (Magic [Chromatic] Supporter)
Atheist
American (Polish-German)
Fun fact: Best Friends and classmates with Melvin, MC has a huge crush on Melvin’s older sister, a secret he’d take to his grave. Short, even for his age, MC threw himself into rap in an effort to boost his rep, but is still hoping really hard for a growth spurt.
Sandman
Administrator Overseer (Martial [Equipment] Supporter)
Nihilist
American (Czech-Ukrainian)
Fun fact: He was actually a mid-level worker in Basilisk, and joined the Cutpurses along with The Chief to try and identify possible new hires. He was the one who noticed potential in Polygraph_Jazz and brought him on board. Not a fan of video games, he barely spent any time farming levels with the others, meaning he was severely under-leveled when the battle broke out.
Trance
Heavy Gunblade (Martial [Equipment] Loner)
Ukrainian Catholic
Canadian (Norwegian-Ukrainian)
Fun fact: An aspiring DJ, Trance used BRYZ’s world to gain access to high-end mixers and other hardware. He tried to host a rave for the Cutpurses, but the only people that attended were Melvin and MC, both middle-schoolers. After that, Trance mainly kept to himself, listening to music while on guard duty.
Nekonečno
Souleye Andabata (Other [Psychic] Loner)
Secular Humanist
Czech
Fun fact: His name is a multi-lingual pun, as "nekonečno" is the Czech word for "infinity", but also "neko" is the Japanese word for "cat". A financial advisor IRL, Nekonečno had an unrequited crush on a classmate in high school and all through college, which ended in her marrying his best friend. A bachelor for life now, he dotes on (M)Alice, and put aside a great deal of money for her education. As the member of his family with the most freedom, being unmarried, and with a job that can be done remotely, he frequently ends up being the one responding to emergencies and picking up slack, which is something he takes great pride in.
Cassius
Soulstitcher Witch-Doctor (Magic [Forbidden] Other)
Post-Theist
English (French-English)
Fun fact: Cassius has a scarecrow motif, which becomes more apparent when compared to his siblings. His older brother is Marcus, the “Courageous Lion”, his younger brother is Decimus, the “Big-Hearted Tin Man”, and he is Cassius, the “Brainy Scarecrow”. Complete with his younger sister Gaia, they are also named after the four assassins of Julius Caesar. Gaia Marlowe doesn’t yet have a nickname, being based after Dorothy, but she definitely doesn’t want to go home.
Frozen_Beef
Ringgiver Jarl (Other [Nature] Other)
Eastern Orthodox Catholic
Canadian (Greek)
Fun fact: Frozen_Beef was originally supposed to be a Survivalist, but he was changed to a Jarl for two reasons; One, even though it appears like he was killed by Marie, he will actually return in book 2 as, well, still as a minor character, but he’ll be there, okay? Because of that, I had to give him a less-boring class. Two, young-me carefully planned it out so that of the 20 Cutpurses we are introduced to, we’d have exactly two of each of the 10 class types. Unfortunately, while I was reworking classes, Survivalist changed from Other to Loner, meaning we would have had 3 Loners and only 1 Other. Thus, a reworking was necessary. Anyways, I personally think the Jarl is a really cool class, so look forward to meeting the new-and-improved, back-from-the-dead Thawed_Beef in BRYZ Book 2!
