This is a surprisingly short answer!
The Yobanashi Girouette was a penname I created all the way back when I was 16, during summer break after my grade 10 year. Now, grade 10 was a really special time for me (I’ll talk about that some other post) because it gave me some direction, and the first part of that direction was writing. So, I sat down and spent that summer building the world of BRYZ, the novel series I’ve been working on since then, and will probably be working on for the next 10 years (it’s not a short series, and I’ve only just about finished the first book. Send help).
Now, in those days, Wattpad was the big thing. It still is, probably, but I never got the views I was looking for, even when I used to post on both Penana and Wattpad (that’s why I don’t have an account anymore, I closed it). That aside, I needed a username/penname, and the first thing that came to mind were my two heroes at that time; Girouette from Mega Man ZX, and Kano Shuuya from Kagerou Daze (his character song is Yobanashi Deceive, or Night Tales Deceive). I took the two and mashed them together and…yeah.
No really, that’s all it is. These days I shorten that to Gironashi whenever I need a game username or something, but that’s the origin. The reason it’s held with me this long is actually because it holds a secondary meaning (I love double meanings), but TBH that one’s a bit more personal, so I ‘aint sharing here!
Sorry.
Either way, now you know. I still think Girouette was a heckuva boss (even if he didn’t get much screen time…it’s funny who you idolize as a kid…) and Kano Shuuya has all my favourite character archetypes; a devil-may-care jokester, a liar and a trickster, a tortured soul, and a self-sacrificing antihero who does what needs to be done to protect his family. Heck, I still think he’s one of my favourite characters. Plus, his theme still slaps.
So I’ll probably stick with The Yobanashi Girouette for a while longer. At least until (or if) I end up going professional. Don’t judge me, man.
