Elliot's eyes fling open, and he sits up quickly, feeling his muscles contract and pull. "Ouch." He groans. The last thing he remembers is getting Kiera to somewhere safe. Then he passed out?
Godamn it, why?
He sees on a board nearby in the small room his in is a chart filled out for him, the attending physician and nurse listed.
The cause of his passing out, dehydration is also listed. He could get up and run out of this room to check on Kiera, but after the fact his no longer a member of the Military anymore as well, there is probably someone stationed on guard duty outside and running won't get him far.
The General has told him time and time again that doing the reckless shit is not the way to go, and his right. He sighs, lay's back down and pressed on the call button attached to the railing of his bed. A few moments later he hears voices and feet outside the door.
Just like he expected, General Peterson is there. "Can you stand?"
"I think so?"
"Good, then up."
Elliot quickly climbs out of bed, shaky, but managed. Peterson leads him out of the room. "General Peterson-"
"I'm not your General anymore, you don't need to call me that."
"What do I call you then-"
"Just Hugo will do."
"Just Hugo-"
"You smart-ass rascal. I sware to God, some of you never change!"
"Do you know where my clothes are? These hospital clothes are fine, but I want to get out of them fairly asap."
"In a bit."
"Where we going?"
They come to a door, and Peterson slides a key card, pushing the door open. Blinding light hits Elliot, it hurts and squints a bit. Guess it's no longer June 1st.
He hears singing and looks up ahead to see the courtyard of the infirmary. On a bench is Kiera, strumming on a guitar and sitting near her is Nadine. "We admitted her, but she was extremely freaked out and wouldn't calm down for her us after you stupidly passed out on us. Make sure to drink some damn water, Elliot."
"I'm sorry."
"Nadine was the only one who could calm her down. This is against the law as Kiera is a victim, but I had to let it slide because what else could I do? I have a ton on my plate and I don't need to add the paperwork to it if we sedated an ex-member."
"I understand."
"So can you go talk to her, please? And then bring her to my office. I've called the coroners office, my son and freaking Molly Fallon's bodies are there.
Believe me when I say this, I'm very angry right now to hear my son is dead, and you both better have a damn good explanation for what the fuck is happening right now."
Then his gone all silent and is gone from the area, Elliot left alone. "I wish I had one, how I ended up in this insane mess really. It was just one event after the other!"
He approaches Kiera who's on a bench, strumming and singing, Nadine beside her. "Kiera?"
She looks up at him, no longer playing.
"Elliot?"
He nods and she passes the guitar to Nadine, rushing into his arms. "I thought you were dead, I thought she killed you too!"
"Hold on, killed? Was Maxis and Molly murdered?" Nadine speaks up, alarmed. "What? No, no! It's not murder!" He exclaims.
"Then why did she say it was murder?!"
"I don't know!"
"You do know! Try me, I'm your friend! After everything we through together!"
Nadine is now angry and hates him. "You know what? Screw you! We're done. If you don't trust me anymore, then you don't. You heard me on the phone in bed with Vincent so you know I slept with him.
You shouldn't be with someone like me, I'm a monster and if Vincent wants to make such a choice despite know everything, that's his choice to make! Have a nice life, Elliot." And she storms off.
"Uh..." He sniffles, rubbing his nose and Kiera who's clinging to him, looks up at him. "What are we going to do?"
"I don't know, Kiera. I'm sorry, I have never been the plans kind of guy. That's Maxis, not me."
"But you're doing okay."
"Uh, if you say so..."
"I don't want to die, Kaylee B is coming after us. She's going to hunt every last one of us down."
He bends down, unwrapping Kiera's arms from him. "I need you to answer me honestly. Do you remember the last timeline?"
"Bits and pieces... It's really jumbled. I don't understand why we are here."
"To be honest, I don't really know either. It's kind of my fault, I wanted to go back in time to change things and save people. I did accomplish that, but not everything is better and there wasn't really a way around this. I think Kaylee B tricked me... that she set me up from the start."
"General Peterson wants to see us doesn't he?"
"Yeah, we have about five minutes to get out story straight which cannot involve time travel or we both are absolutely fucked. They will send me back to the psych ward, thinking this is just from trauma and shit and I won't get out as easily as I did before.
I took my story back, pretending I made it up, but was also better and it was part of me having delusions and stuff."
"And what will happen to me?"
"I don't know, Kiera."
"I want to stay with you."
"I know you do, I want to be with you as well. I'm not close with my Mum. We're closer, but you and Maxis are the reason I did this. Nadine is, the real Kaylee, she was slowly changing for the better, Vincent, Allie and many others."
"Do you think you can go back again?"
"In time?"
"Yeah."
"Uh, I could."
"So do it."
"But Kiera! It would undo some of the good!"
"And Allie, Maxis, Kade, Kiera and Molly are dead! The real Kaylee too likely, her doubleganger filling her place!"
"If I go back, what happens if I screw it up worse than I have? There might be no fixing this! And at-least this outcome is the lesser bad compared to last time!"
"I don't want to live in this reality though, Elliot! Please?"
"No, Kiera! I said no!"
"I hate you!" And then she takes off running.
"Kiera? Kiera, come back! Goddamn it!" And he sprints after her, but it's already to late. She's gone and he doesn't know where she is, she's nowhere to be seen.
He sighs and starts the sad walk to General Peterson's office alone. The other military members will find and track Kiera down.
---
He knocks on General Peterson door and doesn't wait to be invited in, pushing the door. "I see you have less manners now." General Peterson grumps from his desk, stamping tons of documents.
"Where's Kiera?"
"Yelled at me and ran off. And before that, Nadine yelled at me and ran off too."
"Goddamn it, Elliot."
"I'm sorry."
"So, what's the story?"
"Kiera was sick. She'd been vomiting for hours, had a fever and I couldn't make her better. Maxis came home from work and found us in the shower. We took her to the hospital, and we sorta ended up leaving later. Kiera didn't want to stay there..."
"What made her sick?"
"...I don't know."
"Bullshit."
"You're right."
"The truth, Elliot. I'm here to help."
"She's pregnant. Maxis doesn't know, she hadn't told him yet."
"But she told you beforehand?"
"No, Hugo. She didn't have to. I saw right through her attempt to hide it-"
Then it starts to feel like the room is slowly getting smaller, and like he can't breathe. "Elliot, are you okay?" General Peterson asks.
"It just got hot in here." He chokes out and then he sees a shadowy figure rise and stand up behind General Peterson's chair. "You thought you could just jump around time willy nilly did you, Elliot?
Such a shame, because actions have consequences. You should know that."
"Who are you?" Elliot stammers out.
"Elliot, who are you talking to?" General Peterson asks.
"Behind you..."
General Peterson turns his chair around, but no one's there to his awareness. "Me? Oh, the king of darkness. Opposite to the Queen of light."
"Who?"
"Elliot, enough time travelling now."
And the figure begins to smirk, revealing sharpy point white teeth. "You overcome Hanahaki you little cheat. You won't overcome this so easily."
And then the figure is on top of him, wrestling it for the time travel clock. "Where is it?! Where is it?!" The figure yells at him.
But it's not Elliot, it's back at home. He seizes Elliot's throat in his hands, strangling him. Elliot tries to scream out, feeling a seerng burning like his flesh is going to melt away to reveal the bone.
No voice comes out and he sees General Peterson pick up the phone on his desk looking scared and he dials a number, then it all goes black, no sound and the burning flesh feeling fades away till he feels numb.
When he opens his eyes sometime later, he realizes his not dead. But it's to late to do anything, his fate's been sealed.
His restrained to a bed, back in paper scrubs in a small room and he sees the city outside the window. His back in the hospital, probably a psychatric one.
Kiera was right, he needs to go back in time. He needs to get the clock, but how will he do so trapped here now inevitably? And if he can get his hands on it, what good would going back to the start of that mission do?
Unless... what if then and now is not what started this. A lot of the things that have happened and caused this actually pre-existed long before Elliot and his friends grew up into adults and were ever born.
He needs to go back further in time to when the ones responsible, Kaylee, her ex-husband, the leaders of Ring and so on were young and growing up. Would going back to then stop the forming of a dark future?
It could work, why not give it a shot? There's nothing Elliot has to lose anymore really.
He just needs to get his hands on the clock. A smile forms on his lips. Play this game, get Kiera to visit him, smuggling the clock in as no doubt Peteraon will take care of her, she's carrying Maxis's child now.
