A story that doesn’t start well doesn’t end well. A meeting that doesn’t start well never ends well. It’s always the case, doesn’t it seem? I’m not here to prove that wrong to you nor am I here to prove it right. I simply think that it’s a rather… interesting saying.

The big, burly woman approached little Mihael with a smile, patting his smooth, almond hair, “You’re such a nice young man,” the woman said, opening her purse and bringing out a candy, “say, why don’t you sing more often? Here, take this. It helps with your voice. You could be a singer with that voice.” The woman took Mihael’s hands and placed the red-wrapped candy in his palm. Mihael beamed with joy and shyly smiled at the woman. He was still small and he was instructed not to take candy from strangers but he figured he might make an exception for the nice auntie. “Th-thank you!” Mihael said in a small voice.

The woman smiled at him, turned around, then walked away. Mihael’s mom, who had been busy talking with the director, saw her son beaming, holding something in his hand, “What happened, Little One?” the mother asked, walking to Miha. Mihael only looked at her mom and smiled. He opened his hand to reveal a candy in a red wrapper, “Open, please,” he said, offering the candy to his mom. Mother was shocked, “Now, where did you get that candy, silly boy?” she said with a laugh. She sighed defeatedly, took the candy in Mihael’s hand, opened it then directly put it in Mihael’s open mouth. “I’ll let you have a pass, but next time, promise me you’ll tell Mommy, ok?” Mihael nodded without looking at his mom. His face scrunched into a frown then he spat the candy into his palm, “Too sour!” he complained. “Well, it ought to be. It’s a lemon drop! Suck it for a little while. The sour taste will go away and then will be replaced by a sweet taste,” Mother took the candy and put it back in Mihael’s mouth, “you just have to be patient.”

Mihael looked up at his mom, confused, “Mom,” he said, trying to hold back making faces because of the candy’s sourness. “Yes, honey?”

“Of course. If you want, you can even be a singer for your job.”
Mihael’s eyes shone like stars. He started hopping around, tugging on his mom’s dress, “I’m going to be a singer! I want to be a singer! I’m going to be a singer!” he sang, over and over again.

Mother laughed as she picked him up. She gently squeezed his cheeks and said, “When you become a singer, Mother will be your number one fan! I will go to your shows so don’t forget about your dear old mother when you become famous, alright?”

Mihael popped the candy back into his mouth, “I promise!” he beamed.
