Silence and mist befell the camp. It was like someone had cast a curse on the place. Things that were supposed to make sounds didn’t—footsteps with no sound of footfalls. Birds flew but no sound was achieved from the flapping of their wings. The mist encircled the whole camp and clung to every surface—cars, tents, tables— unwilling to let go. Shadow-like figures darted here and there every now and then. Rhiel clung to his pillow, unsure of what to do. He was sleeping in the afternoon, but when he woke up the following day, everyone was gone. He still wasn’t sure if everyone was gone since he only went from his tent to the gymnasium. But he still neither met nor saw anything.
Rhiel peeked his head out of the tent. Feeling the eerie wind brush against his hair, he shrunk back into the tent. ‘Ah. Dang it. I’m a coward.’ he whispered.
