Taylor was making his way to the bus stop, headphones in as he was looking down at the ground. Clear Blue Skies by Juggaknots was blasting in his ears while he was mouthing along, looking up at a sky consisting entirely of gray clouds. He was wearing the same jacket he always wore, but it was baggy compared to normal due to his muscles becoming smaller. His arms were buried as deep into the pockets as they could go to try and hide them as much as possible.
Taylor made it to the bus stop and waited, standing alone for a few minutes before looking over to see other students making their way over.
Taylor stepped aside, standing alone from the others as he kept listening to his music.
The group of students all crowded together and were talking as Taylor stood off to the side, alone with his own music in his ears and the hood covering his head. Taylor continued to stare forward and down, looking at the ground at an angle as he just existed in his own world.
Taylor’s hood suddenly got pulled back as he jumped, quickly spinning around to see Trevon laughing. Taylor took out one of his ear buds and smiled warmly at Trevon.
“When did you get all emo?” Trevon joked, feeling Taylor’s jacket and trying to pull it down, but then stopped as he pushed against it.
“Do you have two of the same jacket in different sizes?” Trevon asked.
Taylor didn’t say anything as he tried to come up with a convincing lie.
“I might have.” Taylor joked back before laughing.
Trevon gave a curious look, like he knew that Taylor was lying but didn’t want to make it obvious.
Taylor looked over Trevon’s shoulder and could see Stephen making his way over, but the crowd of other kids noticed and talked like they were planning something. Taylor kept watching as Trevon talked, but he wasn’t listening to him. One of the other students stepped out and approached Stephen.
“Hey!” Taylor immediately shouted and began to quickly make his way over, Trevon stepping aside and watching as Taylor approached the other kids.
“Oh, you got a problem here?” Maurice made his way over.
His previously broken hand was wrapped in a thin cast.
“We got a problem if you mess with my friends.” Taylor said back as he quickly got face to face with Maurice.
Everyone was looking shocked and surprised at this new side of Taylor.
Taylor’s fist clenched as Trevon made his way over, grabbing Taylor by his elbow.
“Taylor, what the hell are you doing?” Trevon leaned in and whispered.
Taylor stared with intensity at Maurice’s smug face as Stephen stopped in place, watching on from a distance.
“You wanna break your other hand Maurice?” Taylor kept staring into Maurice’s eyes as he puffed out his chest that was thinner than normal, so he had to push it further and harder.
“Alright…let’s go.” Maurice removed his jacket and hid the fact that he was gritting his teeth. His hand was still injured, but that didn’t seem to stop him.
“Taylor, what the fuck are you doing?” Trevon asked a bit louder.
Taylor dropped his own bag and threw his jacket off.
“Let’s go…bitch.” Taylor said as all of the students gasped and laughed.
“Oh shit this is getting serious.” One of Maurice’s friends said while laughing.
“Alright, here we go.”
Maurice was getting ready to throw a punch, but all of the kids suddenly stopped and froze. Taylor was confused, even seeing fear in Maurice’s face.
“Alright, everyone hands where we can see them.” A voice spoke from behind, making Taylor jump.
Taylor turned around, seeing a police car had stopped right on the curb, two officers getting out and shutting the doors.
Taylor swallowed hard as he looked at Trevon, who was shaking in complete fear. Taylor turned to look at Stephen, who was also shaking from nerves.
“I said…hands where I can see them.”36Please respect copyright.PENANAKOieLEvWEc
Taylor immediately felt his arms shoot up, his arms revealing how thin they had become. All of the other students did the same, all except for Stephen.
Stephen was still shaking and sweating. There was a subtle orange glow coming from his arms that barely shined through his jacket sleeves.
“Everyone, line up.” The officer said.
All of the students quickly got into a line, Trevon at the end with Taylor next to him and Maurice right after. As they lined up with their arms up, Taylor looked over at Stephen, who was still unmoving from his spot.
The second officer noticed and quickly made their way over.
“Hey!” The officer suddenly shoved Stephen, who quickly fell to the ground but didn’t remove his hands from his pockets. The glow was turning brighter, but still not too bright to notice.
“Get up!” The officer shouted as their hand suddenly gripped their gun in their holster.
Stephen’s eyes went wide and he was visibly panicking.
“Stephen, just…” Taylor started.
“Stay silent unless you are spoken to!” The other officer suddenly stepped up right into his face and screamed at the top of his lungs.36Please respect copyright.PENANALKYTyn5gxh
Taylor shut up, but could see Trevon looking over his thin and slender frame as the officer walked down the line.
“What the fuck happened to you?” Trevon whispered.
“We can talk about it later.” Taylor replied.
Stephen was beginning to cry and curl up into a ball as the officers both stood over him. They looked at each other before they each grabbed Stephen by his arms, forcing him to his feet and shoving him down to the ground again.
“We need you to stand. Get off of the ground now!” One of the officers screamed.
Stephen was only crying and laying on the ground, pushing his face into the ground as hard as he could.
“Citizen refusing arrest.”36Please respect copyright.PENANAF1qYa8lUoA
The officer pulled out a nightstick as the other students were clearly upset, but didn’t want to say or do anything.
“Hey!”36Please respect copyright.PENANAtPwXNvUC0Z
Everyone quickly turned as a large and muscular black man was making his way over. The officer held their arm out towards him.
“Sir, we’re going to…”36Please respect copyright.PENANAhK89c16z8n
The man noticed Stephen and he walked over faster.
“Get away from my son!’ The man shouted.
Stephen turned to look at his Dad while he was crying loudly.
“Step back, now!” The officer shouted loudly.
“What are you charging him with huh?” Stephen’s Dad asked.
“Resisting arrest.” The officer quickly replied.
“Why did you stop here in the first place?” Stephen’s Dad asked.
“These children were engaging in gang activity.” The officer replied as they pointed at the line of students.
“Gang activity huh? Are you saying that because they’re black?” He asked loudly.
The officer didn’t say anything in response.
“If they were white kids would you have stopped?” The Dad asked loudly right in the officer’s face.
“Sir, you need to step back.” The officer’s hand quickly went to their gun.
“You better make me step back.” He said in an angry tone.
“Treating the witness as hostile.” The officer took two steps back and drew their gun.
Taylor’s eyes went wide as he watched. Stephen was screaming and crying as he tried to get to his feet and run towards his Dad.
The other officer went to reach after him, lifting the nightstick up.
All of the other students were crying and scared, but none of them moved from their spot.
Taylor stared at the chaos unfolding and could see the officer’s finger switch the safety of his gun off. Taylor felt his heart beating out of his chest as he watched the finger quickly moved to the trigger. Taylor could feel his eyes beginning to burn and glow, making him grit his teeth.
“Taylor?” He heard Trevon say.
The finger around the trigger suddenly squeezed as Taylor shouted, Stephen about to hug his Dad as a bullet quickly fired out of the gun barrel.
That was until everything stopped.
Taylor looked forward to see everyone had stopped moving, or at least moving so slowly it appeared as if they were frozen in time. The bullet was moving a fraction of an inch every few seconds as Taylor turned around.
Trevon was frozen in place trying to grip Taylor’s arm, but Taylor pulled away with ease. Taylor continued to walk, looking at all of the other students who had faces covered in dread and fear, their eyes all showing the death that they wanted to avoid. Some even grew pale, their skin tones changing to grayish ghouls. Taylor turned as he looked at Stephen.
Stephen’s arms were outstretched, no longer glowing as he was running in slow motion towards his Dad, tears hanging in the air and very slowly moving towards the ground. As they moved, they were very slowly changing shape into drops racing downward.
Taylor’s eyes darted towards the officers. He stepped closer to get a good look at their faces. He stared into their eyes.
You would think officers in this situation would be feeling fear, or at the very least something to show they were afraid or sad.
Not these officers.
Their eyes were stone cold and emotionless.
They weren’t the eyes or protectors.
They were the eyes of killers.
Taylor turned once more to look at the bullet, which was spinning and moving forward at a very slow rate, almost floating in place. Taylor made his way over, reaching out and pinching down on the bullet. It was incredibly hot and burned his fingertips, but he squeezed it anyways.
The force of his fingers squeezing at inhuman speed crushed the bullet into a circle flatter than a piece of paper.
He pulled the circle back towards him, observing it as he looked around.
Taylor looked back at Stephen’s Dad.
His eyes were the ones full of fear, but it wasn’t fear for himself.
His eyes were locked onto Stephen. He was scared for his son’s well being much more than his own.
Taylor made his way over to where he was standing originally.
He put the circle in his pocket, got in the same position he was standing, and focused.
Everything suddenly came back in a rush. A massive tornado of wind went in every possible direction, making everyone be thrown back from where they stood. The officers flew back as they each fired a round into the air, their fingers already squeezing as if they were planning on shooting regardless.
Taylor was the only person left standing as he looked around.
He suddenly felt weak, his face changing to confusion as he looked down at his body.
His limbs, his torso, everything.
Everything was deathly thin, his bones almost protruding from his skin with how little muscle or fat was left over. Taylor weakly coughed, the air forcefully leaving his mouth being enough to cause him falling back to the ground.
Taylor stared up at the cloudy sky with weak eyes and heavy eye lids. He was painfully breathing slowly as everyone was beginning to get up again.
“What the fuck was that?” One of the students shouted.
Trevon rubbed his head when he looked over at Taylor, immediately panicking.
“Taylor!” Trevon grabbed his thin body and began to shake him frantically.
Taylor’s head turned to look at Stephen and his Dad.
They were hugging tightly as the Dad locked eyes with Taylor.
His eyes were no longer scared, but they seemed to have a strange understanding of what just happened.
Stephen’s Dad nodded at Taylor.
Taylor wanted to nod back, but he was too weak before his eyes suddenly shut.
