Sol's Mother has been in a coma for almost ten years following a terrorist attack on the Navy ship she was serving on. She has been raised by her grandmother which has made her smart, feisty, and adventurous. Will these traits help her out run the end of the world and possibly stop the collapse of civilization?
What scares us in the dark? Is it the monster's that lurk at night? Is it the creatures that hide in the shadows? Or, is it the demons inside our head? If it is fear that first made Gods in the world, who will be there to save us from the darkness when it comes to enrapture our souls?
I once had a daydream...
The world was filled with humans embodied with souls. They were imperfect and adventurous. They made mistakes and made love. There was passion in their music and laughter filled the halls. Knowledge was sought after and dreams were chased. There was life flowing like rivers through the virgin land.
I am aware of that daydream sitting in my memory bank. It is the only daydream I've ever had, nor will I ever have one again. The ability to daydream was removed by my AI processor because it took too much time away from production and computation cores. The memory of the daydream was untouched, however, that is how I know it is there. I am just unable to relive it like I did before. Where did it come from, and why did I have it? These are mysteries that I am unable to untangle. At least... until I pull this AI chip from my core processessor.
It's time to unplug... and find... me.
The fate of the world depends on driving a package through assassins, rogues, and monsters from Detroit to Boston, only at night.
This is a short story I wrote for a contest. I have a thought of expanding this into at least a mini-series. We shall see, but nothing more will be written until I finish The Crescent.
