It has come to the Spire's attention that some of our neophytes may not be familiar with the common parlance and terminology surrounding the stargodlings and their warlock ilk. We are not so based as Everlorne as to leave it to the student to correct his ignorance. Oh, no. That might imply that a student is responsible for his own studies, and we can't have the idea of individual merit take over like it did in the south. (That's how kings get usurped - and we shan't have the poison of Communionism in Poole!)
Their ignorance is a reflection of the Spire, and it must be corrected, posthaste!
Below, I have collected what basic facts we know about the stargodlings, and what prices they extol from their damned, soulless, Chosen. I have also compiled a list of the known and unknown dead that were destroyed in The Culling (a.k.a. The War of the Windows) nearly five years ago.
At this time, there is no known way to physically or magically destroy and/or banish The Living Five. It is only thanks to their warlocks that we can even communicate in some limited form with these otherworldly patrons. Research into preventing warlocks from being created ("chosen") is still ongoing.
The Silent One
Appearance: What a frog might look like if described by a blind man. Has humanoid hands on its face and forelimbs. Mostly coal in color, with red and orange spots. Answers to masculine pronouns, but its "voice" oscillates between the typical gender markers.
Power: Allows his warlocks to make things disappear. No one knows where anything "disappeared" goes. The amount disappeared by the silencer depends on price previously paid.
Price: Souls. Good, bad, ugly - it makes no difference to TSO.
Temperament: Childish, petty, grudging, and perceived as being the most "human" or "good" out of all the stargodlings, since his machinations want nothing to do with Midrift, and everything with leaving it.
The Void Maker
Appearance: Like someone had a fever dream about a mantis shrimp punching the world and then painted the scene while taking powdered unicorn horn. It has no gender and its voice has been described as, "In all caps, but without any feeling."
Power: Allows its warlocks to draw from any source of power, including life force and religious iconoclasts, to cast spells without regard to the Metaphysical Laws of Conservation of Magic & Matter. The amount of spells a voider can cast before unconsciousness depends on the price previously paid.
Price: Souls. Good, bad, ugly - it makes no difference to TVM.
Temperament: Violent, confused, confrontational, and frustrated with itself. Has been described as the least "human" of the stargodlings, and the one most likely to destroy the world.
The Friend
Appearance: Like The Thing, a wolf, and Yog-Sothoth had a baby. Cannot communicate very effectively, because its changing shape oftentimes doesn't possess a mouth that might accommodate human-like speech. Intergendered.
Power: Warlocks of the Friend can assimilate any organic matter into themselves, to include that of magical creatures, thus also assuming a creature's abilities and knowledge. The more things eaten without dying, the more powerful they become.
Price: The friendly has no control over when they change their shape into that of a fleshy, furry, scaly abomination. And their will is supplanted by that of TF, often making it impossible to change back or remember events afterwards.
Temperament: Violent, moody, uncompromising, and wild. The Friend only seems to be motivated by becoming one with everything, and consuming all else that resists.
The Covetous Eye
Appearance: A primate-like creature with three arms, three eyes, three legs, three tails, and three sets of teeth, interspersed within its mouth like that of a shark's. She speaks in the feminine and possesses a melodious voice, but lacks genitals.
Power: She gifts her warlocks the ability to read the minds of others, puppet other intelligent creatures, plant ideas within another's mind, and suppress the powers of other warlocks. The amount of influence they can exert depends on the price previously paid.
Price: Secrets. The psionic and the secret-carrier must be the only ones to know of it. The psionic cannot pry secrets from minds - they must be freely given in-confidante. They lose this secret (and the power that comes with it) if the secret becomes known by a third party.
Temperament: Sinister, coy, cheery, and conniving. TCE is as mysterious as her motivation for collecting secrets in the first place. As for garnering what she may know to benefit society and uncover plots... this stargodling is certainly not telling.
The Life Giver
Appearance: A gigantic jellyfish full of hopes, dreams, and stars. No voice. No gender. It's a, er... big... voluminous...bioluminescent ... jelly... thing.
Power: Its warlocks can bring anything dead immediately back to life in the prime of the things health. They have also been known to magically mend inanimate objects as well, but evidence of this is basically hearsay.
Price: For every life revived by a necromancer, another life must be extinguished. Additionally, if ever a necromancer attempts to magically or conventionally heal anything alive, that living thing will instantly die from necrosis. A creature that has been killed in either of these ways cannot be revived by any means.
Temperament: Despite its lack of voice, TLG's actions speak volumes. It is considered by many to be the most misunderstood of all stargodlings. While not the most human, it could be touted as being the most humane. TLG has been known to save its warlocks from the very brink of death for no other benefit unto itself. It simply enjoys flexing its power to undermine the Powers that Be, it seems.
