"Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" An annoyingly, high pitched voice screamed into my ear. Suddenly it felt as though I gained ninety pounds as weight was tossed on me.
"Stop being so fat," I mumbled, which rewarded me with a smack to the back of my head.
"Apologize to your sister and get up now." My mother demanded. I cracked an eye open to see her looking down on me.
"But mom! She screamed in my ear then jumped on me! And is still sitting on me," I whine. My mother rolls her eyes and mumbles under her breath something about whiny children. I roll over, causing my sister to fall on the floor. I glance down at her. "I bet my horse is faster than your's."
"You wish it was!" She screeches before getting up and running out of the room. "Last one there is a rotten egg!" I sigh and get up, I slip on some pants and a tank top. I loosely tie my hair in a pony tail, by bothering to brush it. Once I reach the kitchen my mother gives me a hug.
"You will have to dye your hair again soon," she tells me. I knew I would have to soon.
"Maybe this time I will go with a striking blue and draw the attention of everyone to myself," I reply sarcastically.
"Ah yes, what a good idea. Actually why not wash out the dye and have white hair, then go present yourself to the elven king," she says with the same sarcasm.
"You always have the best ideas mum," I say, laughing. She starts washing dishes as I grab a roll from the table. "Do you think I'll ever be able to wear my hair natural?" I question.
"Sweetheart, I'm sure a day will come where you decide enough is enough and go start a huge fight between the three kingdoms. However, until that day, just keep dyeing it brown." the same response I always get. The same thoughts would carry through my head. Why is white hair going to cause a war? Everyone on my village seems hell bent on making sure I don't find out. All I need is a visitor from a far away place, maybe then I will get my answer.
"Ace, you're by far the biggest rotten egg I know!" My sister yells from outside. I glance out the window and see her sitting on her horse, waiting for me to take her on a ride.
"Keep calling me a rotten egg and we'll see how many more rides I take you on!" I jokingly yell back. My mother turns and scowls at me.
"For heaven's sake child, quit yelling in my house," she scolds. I laugh and run out the door, grabbing my bow on the way.
