I knew I would be nervous but I also knew I didn't have that luxury at this time. I needed to be more forward than normal and actually be assertive, this was a brand new day and if I wanted this to go somewhere I needed wake up and make it happen. I looked at Eric and smiled "I will be right back. Relax we still have a lot of work ahead of us." I chuckled softly then opened the door and put my foot down on the land that was to be my new home. I walked to the bookstore and opened the door. I was greeted by an older lady dressed in a more hippie style than I was used to. I knew at first sight I would like this woman, she dared to be different. I introduced myself "Hello, I am Stephanie White. I am here about the apartment you have for rent." The woman smiled at me and held out her hand "Tina, and I was expecting you." I moved to shake her hand and felt strangely at home like when I was in the kitchen as a young child and Mrs. Hawthorn was humming and cooking, I could feel a warm smile slip over my face and I replied, "I am excited to move in. May I?" Tina smiled at me and nodded. I followed the woman out and into the side door that led up to the apartments above the bookstore, She stopped before a door and mentioned that it was her own apartment, I smiled more excited to see My new place than I was before. Eric had spotted us coming out of the bookstore and followed along, and Tina led us to a door and smiled looking at us and said "well this is it, I have recently had the place remodeled," She placed the key in the lock and opened the door. As the door swung open I looked inside and was flooded with emotions of excitement and a little dread, I didn't want to leave all I knew behind however I knew if I were going to be a surgeon like I wanted to be I would need to begin somewhere. I entered the door and was amazed, I liked the place sure it was a One bedroom apartment but it had a spacious kitchen and cozy dining area as well as a larger living area all visible from the front door. I walked down the hall and opened the bathroom door. It wasn't rinky dink like I had expected. It was nice with an old fashioned slipper claw foot tub and shower combo. The plastic curtain drawn around in a U shape. I pulled the curtain back and was pleasantly amazed at the spaciousness of the tub. Beside the tub sat an old fashioned Elston Chair. I began to fall in love with the place. I turned to look at the sink which was a tad more modern a Console sink with little gold faucet and pearely handles. Sunk into the wall was an NuTone Dunhill White Oval Medicine Cabinet. I felt the bathroom suited me. I smiled at Eric and walked out of the bathroom to open the door across the hall from it. Wow was I amazed. A large walk in Linen closet. I smiled and saw potential here. I quickly walked down the hall to the door at the end and noticed my hand shaking slightly as i reached for the doorknob. The room was spacious and I could picture my own small twin bed and Caroline Bedroom Vanity in just the right spots in the room and my curtains would go great with the long windows. I turned to Tina, "I love it can we move me in now?" Tina smiled and nodded. I had already wired ahead the money for the first months rent and security deposit. I asked Tina where I could go to get the electric turned over to me and the phone and Internet hooked up. She directed me where I needed to go and Eric drove me there. After setting up the Internet phone cable and electric in my name I was informed they would have it all switched and turned on by tomorrow morning. They would leave the electric on and in Tina's name until then. When we returned I informed Tina of this and she was fine with it. I made a mental note to thank her in some special way. Eric helped me move the items into my new place and it took us the rest of the afternoon. By early evening Eric was ready to turn the moving truck back in. I went with him and then we called a cab to take him to the airport. "Call me or Email me tomorrow to let me know you got in. You know my cell number." I smiled and winked at him. He gave me the big brother lecture about if I were ever in trouble and needed his help to call. I gave him a big hug and told him he should ask Brenda out she wouldn't wait forever for him to gather his courage. I watched as his face turned three shades of pink and knew my guess had been right. I waved him off and walked back to my new apartment. By the time I had arrived home it was late and so I was thankful that I had my handy bottle of mace in my pocket. I went upstairs and began to unpack. It wasn't long and I had the kitchen things unpacked and set in their proper places. I moved to the living area next and swiftly began to rearrange my items. I set up the Television and moved the sofa and chair to just the right position. I moved my desk and desktop computer to the wall where I could look out over the street. I then plugged in my phone and placed the base on the desk and charged up the handset I also plugged the second one in right next to my bed. I continued through the night unpacking little knickknack’s and what not by eleven pm I decided it was time to rest. I could pick the rest up later. I slept that night and dreamed. The four cloaked figures had pulled my father to his knees. I saw in his eyes anger and pain and great sadness just before he started to mumble some words. I awoke drenched in perspiration. I turned to look at the alarm clock and sure enough It was only two am. I had hopped that all the moving would have worn me out enough to have slept through the night. I rose from the bed and went to the bathroom turning on the water and letting it warm up I returned to the bedroom gathered my things and took a shower. After my shower I went back to the bedroom and dug through a few boxes and found my running gear. I put it on and grabbed my keys and mace and headed out the door. I hopped I wasn't loud enough to bother Tina. I just needed the run for some odd reason. Other than cooking running seamed to be the only other thing that could calm my nerves. I ran to the campus and took a run around it at the same time I familiarized myself with the buildings. I would need to know where to go soon anyway. I would need to check in with them and get my course schedule as well as look for the financial aid office and check out that scholarship. I ran around the campus twice then ran back home. It was a quiet four am when I entered the building. I tried to walk up the stairs as quietly as possible and once in my room I showered again. I loved the feel of the warm water after a morning run. I quickly finished up my shower I had more unpacking to do. It was six in the afternoon when I had decided to take a break. I grabbed a sandwich and a Pepsi and sat down at my table which I had set up so I could just turn and look outside over the street. I smiled it was a Friday and was to be my first night at work. I finished up my sandwich and turned to the living area and noticed I still had ten boxes left to unpack. I had placed all my clothing where it belonged unpacked and put away all my linen in the closet, unpacked the extra canned food I had brought with me and put it all in the large Pantry in the kitchen. I had placed my jackets in the front closet by the door and my work and running shoes also went there. The rest of my shoes went in the bedroom closet on my shoe tree. I sighed and decided then and there to hold off on the rest. I picked up my keys grabbed my small change purse with some cash in it and left the apartment. I went downstairs to check out the Occult bookstore. I felt I should know about the area I was living in. I entered the bookstore and saw Tina instantly. I smiled and walked up to her noticing out of the corner of my eye a grey-haired man sitting at one of the tables looking like he was reading. "Hello Tina. How are you today?" Tina smiled at my greeting and replied "I am well and how are you doing? Are you getting unpacked?" I nodded and smiled. I looked past her and saw a Cappuccino Machine. "Oh that looks appealing. May I get a French Vanilla Cappuccino please?" Tina smiled and turned to make me one. I turned to look at the books and asked absently if there was anything she suggested. She mentioned some Druid's books. I almost choked. "I am not one for Religion" I stated and she smiled and said "Its alright dear its an interesting read even if your not into religion." I nodded and moved in the direction she had suggested it would be and looked for it. I picked it up and was looking at it reading the cover briefly when I saw a tiny ball of red hair bounce in with so much energy I couldn't help but smile. Following behind her was a woman dressed professionally yet she held an air of sensuality I knew I could never achieve. I was shocked when I noticed her hair was slightly lighter than my own. When she looked in my direction I noticed her eyes were Lighter than mine as well. We could have passed for relatives, sisters even. I took the book up to the counter and noticed the little one was up there "Auntie Tina." was all I heard come out of her mouth. I knew she was talking but for the life of me I cant remember what it was about. I remember Tina pulled out a bowl of Chocolate bars for her and let the little one pick one for herself. I smiled at this and noticed the little ball of energy pick up five candy bars stuffing one in each of her pockets and opening one stuffing it in her mouth. I placed the book on the counter and Tina pulled the candy dish back behind. I smiled and looked for my change purse. The little girl next to me smiled and I couldn't help but speak to her. "hello there. I am Stephanie." She grinned and replied "Alexis. I am five. How old are you?" I chuckled "I am Twenty-Three. It is a pleasure to meet you Alexis." Alexis smiled and waved to her mother. "Mommy this is Stephanie. She is old." I laughed. "No Alexis darling that is rude. Please forgive her she thinks anyone over the age of ten is old." "Its alright I am not worried. Um.. Excuse me your Morgan Merriweather Williams right?" "Why yes I am." "interesting.. I am glad to have met you. I am Stephanie White. I have just received the same scholarship you had. Do you know anything about the scholarship? It seamed kind of vague." Morgan looked at me and shook her head. "I never questioned it. I figured it was my chance to make better and I did." She smiled at her daughter and I nodded. I would have to look elsewhere to find the answers I wanted. "it was nice to meet you" I paid for my book and Cappuccino and left. I walked upstairs put my things away drank my Cappuccino and then decided to leave for work early. As I left I saw Morgan and Alexis talking to an older gentlemen whom scooped up Alexis as though she were a feather and she giggled and held on to him. He spoke a few words then put the little girl down and walked away. I quietly left I figured it was some family member and I was intruding. I walked slowly to the hospital to assimilate my surroundings to where I lived and where I would work. I entered the hospital and stopped at the front desk I spoke briefly to the woman there and she directed me to the changing area and told me that I had my own locker where my new uniform should be waiting. I found it rather quickly and changed then came back to the front where the woman was still sitting and she told me to be patient as Charlie would be coming in soon and that he would show me the ropes but that she was the Emergency Room attending and she wanted things done a certain way.
As she was speaking to me Alexis bounded into the room. "Auntie Alice Auntie Alice" Alice looked at the young child and picked her up then said "What are you doing here you should be home in bed." At that moment Morgan walked through the door. "She got away from me. Alexis you know your not supposed to run across the parking lot without holding on to my hand" The little red head gave a pout and replied "yes mommy, I just wanted to see Auntie Alice" Alice said, "listen to your mother" "Yes auntie Alice." I could only smile. I watched as they exchanged a few more words and Alice moved into the next room only to come out with a small souffle cup with some orange liquid in it. She offered it to Alexis and then watched her drink it all down. She exchanged a few words with Morgan and I noticed then that Morgan was pregnant. For the life of me I don't know why at that moment I was slightly envious. She had one beautiful daughter and another on the way. I knew it was irrational but I was still envious. There was a comment made about men and though I do not remember my reply Alice laughed and said "I like this one" Soon Charles came in and I left waving good bye to a sleepy eyed little Alexis.
