The night was busy and of course one of the others called in so I picked up their shift, Jaden and Brenda stopped in and brought me a French Vanilla Cappuccino, I loved them even more for this, they always seamed to know when I needed a pick me up. We talked about getting together the following night for our regular pizza night, I informed them that as of right then I had no other plans unless I was called in to work, they protested until I gave in and promised not to take any extra hours. I promised to meet Jaden for our run before I needed to be back for the morning shift and she agreed.
Jaden and I ran our usual two miles it was fun and exhilarating and I loved every minuet of it, the air as it filled my longs with each breath and the exertion on my muscles as I pumped each arm and lifted each foot; I felt alive. We parted our ways and I ran back to the hospital where I showered and clocked in for the morning shift, the day went by so fast I could scarcely believe it was time to call an end to it. There was the check list of the truck, the items that needed to be restocked and recharged; I even took the truck and washed it, and all of that seamed to fly by, I remember thinking how truly amazing it was as to how much dust and dirt collects on an ambulance. I walked home from work tired and yet excited for the girls night ahead, I knew I could catch a few hours rest so I showered and laid down on the bed, I remember thinking I should towel dry my hair a bit more then run a brush through it but the black oblivion of sleep claimed me. As I floated in the land of sleep images came to me, images of a sun-washed beach where I walked along the shore hand in hand with someone whom I could not make out; all I could tell was they were taller than I and had dark hair. The day was bright but it wasn't long and the sky grew dark almost as if there were no sun, the darkness seamed to be as a thick cloud, the only light was the two feet around the man and myself; I began to panic, the oh so familiar fear began to grip my heart and I could not move.
I awoke screaming, I couldn't shake the feeling at first, so I got up and walked to the bathroom, I noticed then the tangled knot in my hair and so I took the time to work it out which seemed to calm me. I Dressed in my usual black cargo pants and a soft cotton shirt that clung to my body in a comforting manor and it was my favorite color of Cobalt Blue, I took a look at myself in the mirror and noticed my emerald eyes seamed a little over bright, but they sure did go well with my fair skin and deep red hair.
I answered the door just before Jaden and Brenda rang the doorbell, I always seemed to know just when they were about to knock, they smiled at me and I grinned back at them with the feeling of happiness that washed over me I quickly forgot all about the bad dream. Jaden held up the extra large pizza and Brenda held up a bottle of Merlot, I grinned and stepped aside to let them enter walking to the kitchen I opened the cupboard and pulled down some plates and a set of goblets, I reached for the drawer with the forks and pulled some out then I grabbed some napkins and headed to the living area where the girls had seated themselves on the couch and placed the wine and pizza on the coffee table, I put the items in my hands down next to the Pizza and returned to the kitchen for the cork screw. The others had the box open and were arguing over which movie we would watch when I returned, we opened the wine and dug into the pizza and it was as I was getting my own slice of meat lovers out when I noticed the two letters from Rhode Island on my coffee table. This struck me as odd as I thought I had put them on the stand in the hall by the door, Brenda noticed them and before I could pick them up she had snatched them, "ooh what’s this? Some secret job you haven't told us about?" She looked down at the letters in her hands and her face quickly went white and she stopped smiling, I reached over with my right hand and covered hers while placing my pizza down with my left hand I smiled, "I don't know really, I haven't even opened them, to tell the truth I am as clueless as you are."
Jaden smiled and said in a cheerful voice, "Then I suggest we open it together, then we will all know what its about and if its good news we have more to celebrate tonight." I smiled and let my hand fall while nodding to Brenda, she looked at me and nodded in return then handed me the letters, I looked to Jaden and knew the reason I had come to love her and Brenda like sisters was their concern was genuine. They never looked at me like I was a freak, they never judged me, Jaden was always one to smooth out every situation and Brenda was the one who would stand behind you like a guardian angel threatening anyone who would try to mess with her friends. I opened the letter from Brown University first, I read aloud, "We at Brown University would Like to congratulate and welcome you to our fall semester 2012." I dropped the letter and looked at them.305Please respect copyright.PENANA85M7YuBRh2
