I had a lot to think about and we decided to let it go at that and finished up our cold pizza and drank our wine while we watched a few chick flicks, the girls passed out in my living room and I covered them up and went to my room where I took out the diary I received and began to write about today's happenings. I wrote how I was not certain if this was all real or just a hoax, I knew if I were to accept I would not be so easy to believe that It was all true, I would have to look for work and a place to live that I could afford, I would look for those things when the girls woke up, they could help me, It would be one of our last things we did together before I moved. I knew if I were to accept I would have to move as soon as possible and begin working just to get the finances for the tuition in the fall if by chance the scholarship were fake, but I could already feel a small amount of excitement mixed with a small amount of dread. For now I closed the Diary and looked for my running shoes.
I entered my apartment as the early morning light began to stream in the windows through the blinds, I moved inside took off my shoes and went to run the shower, I turned the water on and turned the heat up a bit on the water. I moved grabbed my thick robe and placed it within arms reach of the shower, I grabbed a towel for my hair and then slowly pealed my shirt over my head, I quickly followed that with my sports bra and my running shorts. It was nice to run so early in the morning, no one really saw my burn scars, I could run and still feel comfortable and less self conscious like I did when I knew others would be around. I always felt they were staring even if they weren't, and I knew it was irrational to think this however I always had a hard time trying to shake the feeling of constantly being watched. I stepped into the shower and closed my eyes as I stuck my head under the warm spray of the water, the water hit the back of my head and nape of my neck while it trickled down the rest of my body, slowly I turned to place my face directly in the stream of the water and tilted my face up slightly. I loved the way the water felt pelting in my face and sliding down my neck over my chest and down my body, I waited a few then lathered my body with dial body wash. I poured some coconut smelling shampoo into my hand and lathered it into my hair. After taking the time to let the shampoo settle in, I rinsed the lather off my body and then I rinsed out my hair following with conditioner. It wasn't long and I was out of the shower and wrapped in my warm fuzzy robe I wrapped the towel around my hair and piled it high on my head. I walked out to the Living area where the others were just coming to and smiled, "coffee?" They nodded. I moved to the kitchen pulled out the coffee maker and began to make them some coffee. I reached over and pulled open the refrigerator door, I pulled out some Bacon, eggs, cheese, sliced ham, some peepers, a bottle of salsa, and a bottle of Pepsi, all that in hand I used my hip to close the door; while the coffee was brewing I put the ingredients on the counter and pulled open the drawer next to the stove, I took a pan off the shelf and I placed it on the stove, doing the menial chores of making an omelet and Bacon for each of my friends seemed to calm my nerves, I enjoyed cooking and baking for those whom truly enjoyed to eat. After twenty minuets my friends came out to the kitchen area and sat at the bar-stools there, I set a cup of coffee in front of each of them and pulled the sweet-n-low out for Jaden and pulled the milk out of the fridge for Brenda. They sat and sipped their drinks, I placed plates in front of them while making some toast, when it cam up I placed a plate of toast between them, taking a piece of toast myself I leaned against the counter watching them eat in silence. I grabbed my Pepsi off the counter with my left hand twisted the cap with my right and, I took a drink of it and lowered it looking at my friends and smiled. Both of them returned the smile and after that ate with more enthusiasm.
After they had finished their breakfast I cleared their plates and rinsed them placing them into the dishwasher turning it on and turned to speak to them, "OK so now we have a few things to decided let's say that the letters were for the sake of argument as real as they could be, again for the sake of argument. But If I were to accept them I would need a place to live and a job, so I would guess our next step would be to research a bit of the city itself and find out if there were a job and apartment available, only problem for me is I have to be to work in an hour and i am pulling two back to back doubles. May I ask for your help?" Both Jaden and Brenda smiled and looked at me, "We would be happy to help." Brenda said and Jaden nodded. "you go get ready for work we will research today and then tomorrow we will meet for lunch and discuss what we find." I smiled nodded and went to change.
The night went fast for me and between shifts I had met Jaden for our usual run, I returned to work and worked the day shift, that evening went well and though I had some comments from Jaden in the morning about the town of Providence Rhode Island I was still a bit apprehensive. The night shift ended and I met Jaden for our usual morning run but she wasn't there; I ran alone, and I couldn't shake the feeling that someone or something was watching me, I was very glad that the park had security cameras placed here and there along the running paths.
That day went by so fast and before I knew it lunch had rolled around, I left work still in my uniform and walked to the McDonald's close by. Brenda loved their French fries, and I always ordered a Salad and Ranch Dressing a bottle of water, this time was like all the times before and with food in hand I sat to eat while waiting for them, it was maybe three minuets and Brenda rushed in the door and to the counter. I could hear her "I fiend, I would like a Big Mac Meal Super sized thank you." She turned and spotted me and I saw her enthusiastic wave as I nodded to her, she waited for her food and then took a seat beside me, "Jaden isn't here yet is she?" "No, not yet" i responded. "OK then. I can wait she is the one with the file after all." I watched as she opened the box her burger came in and she jumped from the table and ran back to the counter, I could only chuckle If I were to move I would miss her enthusiasm, she soon came back to the table with a souffle cup full of Big Mac Sauce, I shook my head to keep from laughing. "What so you know me and my dipping habits", she stuck her tongue out at me. I laughed and smiled just then out of the corner of my eye I noticed Jaden enter and stop at the counter, she placed her order and then came to sit with us, she placed the file folder in front of me. With a serious look on her face she said, "We found a few interesting things." I smiled and nodded taking another bite of my salad. "lets eat first then tell her" Brenda said, and we all agreed.
Brenda cleared off the table as Jaden moved the folder and opened it, "First off we have done some research considering your habits; There are several places for you to run at, one happens to be here", she pointed to a small area on a printed map. "This is one of the safest running parks, but then again you could run around campus. We found a place for you to live that would be reasonable now before you say anything its above an Occult Book store and we know you don't believe in things like that but give it a try supposedly the girl before you Morgan stayed there, the rent is reasonable and its in a good location, not to mention it is in walking distance to the campus. However its also not in one of the better areas of town, so if you move there please take a can of mace with you everywhere, in the day time I am sure it is safe enough but at night." Jaden looked to Brenda and I saw Brenda nod. "We know you don't stay indoors much so please be careful at night in this area. As for a job; Well we found one for you that is perfect, the university hospital is looking for a new Emergency Medical Technician, in fact we applied for you." I blinked. "Why..How.. What were you thinking? I haven't decided on moving there yet. Why apply for a job there if I don't move.?" Brenda reached her hand over and patted my own. "We didn't want you to pass up such a good opportunity just for us, we know you feel responsible for what you think was all the trouble you caused throughout the years, we never once blamed you for the actions of others, we just liked ya. We knew how brave you have always been, not many would go to public school after suffering like you have. We want you to go, besides, we can come visit you anytime." She grinned and Jaden chimed in, "Road trip", we all burst out in laughter. "I guess I should call and talk to this land lord of the apartment, and see if perhaps the place is ready to rent or not." Jaden smiled Brenda piped up in her cheerful voice "no need we did that for you already." I could only blink, they had decided for me, I was going to move take a job and attend an Ivy league school, I shivered slightly and had a feeling as if someone had walked over my grave, but it quickly passed. One week later the apartment I lived in was full of boxes, Eric, Brenda, and Jaden helped me to load the moving truck, as the last box was loaded I sighed and with a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach I hugged each of my friends goodbye. Eric had taken the time off work to drive the moving truck to Providence for me and he was going to fly back. There was a lump in my throat and a pit in my stomach. I felt as if I would never see my most treasured friends again. That couldn't possibly happen, right?
