Since short stories are...so short, writers had to develop ways to hook their readers until the very end. Write down below an opening sentence that hooked you into a book

One hook I like is someone reacting to something. This makes me want to find out what's making them react in such a way.
Starting out with a good description is good start for me, too.
My third would be an interesting quote, a quick way on what the story is about and what will be discussed.

"They were watching! They were staring!"
-From 'Reign', ch.4, the last story I read tonight.

I'm reading that story too!! On FictionPress right? :D Though I wouldn't consider it a short story.

@BC24, That's the story. Yeah, it's gonna be novel length, the author is putting effort into it.

Thats a very good one.
I would say another great hook would be dialogue.

"Put the girl down, drop the gun and put your hands up," I pause, "NOW!"

Or

"I knew it was you from the beging Jackson, I couldnt prove it thats all."

This opening sentence happens to be from a trilogy that I love- "I've been locked up for 264 days."
It's from the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Absolutely beautiful books.
