The first day of school arrived and I somehow made it into the only all-male class. There were five classes total: three co-ed classes, one all-male class, and one all-female class. I guess someone had specifically asked for me to be in this class.
"Why are you here?" A familiar voice asked when I entered the classroom. I turned to see my Uncle Ryan, my mother's older brother, who had become a teacher years ago.
"For the same reason everyone else is here, Uncle Ryan," I said, "Unstable magic."
"Riona cursed you, didn't she?" Uncle Ryan asked. Riona was one of my sister's friends who had bullied me.
"Why do you think that?" I asked. Uncle Ryan sighed.
"I can see the curse and it's obvious who did it," Uncle Ryan said, "Riona's family is known for dark magic and she's the only one of her family that has ever been around you."
"Do you know how to undo it?" I asked.
"Normally only Riona could," Uncle Ryan said, "But someone with holy magic could do it."
"I don't know anyone who can use holy magic," I said.
"They might be closer than you think," Uncle Ryan said.
"Like Marvin?" I asked.
"I'm not allowed to say," Uncle Ryan said. That was him saying 'yes' without actually saying it. Why would Marvin not tell me something so important?
Soon it was lunchtime and I wanted to go to the mess hall for something to eat, but I somehow ended up bumping into Marvin.
"I'm sorry, your highness," Marvin said, "I just wanted to check on you."
"I'm alright," I said, "But I have to talk to you in private." Marvin's eyes lit up.
"Sure," Marvin said, "Let's go back to your room."
"Alright," I said. Marvin led me to my room.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Marvin asked.
"Do you really like me that much?" I thought.
"Yes, I really like you, your highness," Marvin said.
"I said that aloud?" I asked.
"Yes," Marvin said. I could feel my face burn with embarrassment.
"That wasn't what I wanted to ask," I said, "I wanted to know if you had holy magic." Marvin frowned and looked away.
"I wasn't taught how to use it properly," Marvin said.
"So you can't lift my curse?" I asked.
"I was researching how to lift it," Marvin said, "But my level isn't high enough to completely lift it just yet. I was sent here with you in order to be taught by the holy mage that works in the hospital wing. Sorry for not explaining things, but the King urged me not to unless you asked me."
"They know that I hate being left out," I said. Marvin looked back at me.
"I don't know the reason, but I also thought it was unfair," Marvin said.
"I also had another question, but it's unrelated," I said.
"What is it, your highness?" Marvin asked.
"Why do you like me so much?" I asked. Marvin blushed.
"You saved me when we were much younger," Marvin said, "My parents had just died and I was supposed to go to an orphanage, but you brought me to your father and asked if I could be your servant."
