I was excited, Charles drove as I was uncertain where to gobeing unfamiliar with the city and all. It was a call for alcohol poisoning on campus. We drove into frat row and were greeted by a throng of people. We entered the house and examined the kid in question, after a brief assessment we took him out and back to the hospital where I am sure he had his stomach pumped. Seeing his state reminded me why I never drank that much. Just as we were setting the truck back up there was another call, at the same place someone had thrown a kid through one of the frat house windows. I drove this time and when we arrived we got out and had to fight our way through a crowd of people the party had really kicked up a few notches since we we're here a short time ago. I saw out of the corner of my eye a man and a woman.. both of whom were ungodly strange.. the man was extremely handsome and the woman struck me as totally odd... neither of them seamed.. natural.. but I didn't have time to dwell on it so I entered the house with the gurney. I kept wondering if this was how Charles spent every night, mainly on frat row. We went inside found the guy right where one of the parties said we would. I quickly assessed the patient while Charles called in his injuries to the staff on call at the hospital. I quickly administered a saline drip and we collared him and put him on a backboard. Then we lifted the backboard onto the gurney and as quickly as possible we left the scene. Charles was for some reason antsy and kept shifting his weight and gaze. At the doorway we were hindered by many drunken students not moving. We tried to shove them out of the way but they would not budge. In the not too far distance we hear a gunshot and I instantly throw my body over the patient. Uncertain if there would be more, this was so confusing to me I was not really used to gunshots. My first thought was to protect the patient and I heard Charlie say "lets get out of here hurry pick up that end" I noticed then that all the kids had hit the ground and were still there. I quickly picked up my end and hurried toward the truck. Charlie went in first and as I was closing up the truck he got in the drivers seat. It was then that the strangest thing happened to me, a Dark haired man came up to me handed me his business card and said, "If you have time... Stephanie you should call me we should talk." I looked at him oddly I am sure only because of the slight grin he had on his face, and then I finished closing the truck "If I have the time" then I ignored him and went around to the other side of the truck and got in the side door closing it behind me. I couldn't shake the feeling that the stranger had been staring at me the whole time. We took the patient to the hospital and then went to fill up the truck, we got a few more calls but that gun shot was too much for me to shake off. I couldn't help but shake when a door slammed or there was a loud noise. Then Alice said I could go home it had been a busy night but it was slowing down to a crawl now and she thought I had done good for my first night. I smiled and changed and then walked home. I had kept the business card with me placed it right away on the computer deskwhen I got home. I went to the kitchen grabbed a bottle of water took a long drink then went back to the living room and turned on the computer. I did a little research on the company that was on the card, and the man behind it. Great another rich play boy who's probably looking to score with his latest bimbo in the back of an ambulance and is looking for some poor sucker who is desperate enough to look the other way. I placed the card into my Rolodex next to the computer and went to turn on the shower. I needed a shower, only the beating of the water on my skin seemed to melt away the stress of the day. The water relaxed me and as I sat at my vanity running the brush through my hair I couldn't help but think out-loud. "Pity, he was very handsome." I put my brush down a little irritated at myself for having those thoughts. I turned to the bed and flopped down burring my face in the pillow. Why now? Why would I start thinking like that now? Hadn't I learned my lesson in High school? Men weren't going to like me because I was a freak. Soon the oblivion of sleep over took me and I dreamed of a beach the water rolling up to pool around my toes just to be dragged away again. I took a deep breath and felt a hand holding mine. I sighed contentedly in my sleep.
