Aladdin sighed while flying through the night sky on his enchanted, magic carpet. He looked down at the golden sand dunes, the cold breeze gently brushed against his cheek as he listened to the sad whistles and howls of the wind.
At least it sounded sad and lonely in comparison to a certain someone's humming.
Shaking the thought away, Aladdin returned to observing the stars shining brightly. They were glimmering and twinkling like precious diamonds that he would steal but the idea paled in comparison to a certain prince's eyes.
The thought caused a small smile to adorn his lips.
Their night together was short, unexpected, but it was sweet nevertheless. Aladdin felt things he had not felt before. It was new and... odd.
He kind of liked it.
Aladdin thoughtfully twirled the carpet’s tassel along his finger. The royal siblings were quite different. Prince Hassan was a soft, cool breeze once past the feisty exterior when compared to Princess Jasmine’s scorching, unyielding fire. But they had one thing in common: Beauty.
The pair were very rare, mysterious beauties. It wasn’t just their appearance. It was the way they viewed the world.
So unique and so different.
'So intriguing.'
The thought was sudden but fitting.
Their eyes held so many unsaid words. Aladdin wanted to hear it all. His mind ached, flooded with an ocean of thoughts, mostly of Prince Hassan.
"Hey buddy boo,” the genie piped. “What’s going on in that peanut-sized brain of yours?” Aladdin frowned. “Oh, you know I’m just playing with you! Come on, amuse me with your thoughts, pal.”
Aladdin let out a frustrated breath. “I just- I don’t know, Genie.”
“What don’t you know?” the blue jokester questioned.
“Well, it’s Prince Hassan.”
Genie hummed. “What about that gorgeous boy?”
Aladdin ignored the last part knowing very well that it’s true.
“Prince Hassan...." Aladdin trailed off. “He confuses me.”
The genie raised an eyebrow. “I’m going to need more details than that.”
“He makes me feel things! Different, weird feelings! It’s different from what I feel with Princess Jasmine. She understands me while I understand her. So, I like her!"
"You like Princess Jasmine," Genie repeated.
"I mean, I love her! Right? I love her, don’t I?” Aladdin groaned.
"Well, I don't know. Do you, Al?
“See! This is what I’m talking about! He’s making me question myself and I don’t understand why!”
Genie and Abu shared a look.
“What does Prince Hassan make you feel?” the genie asked softly.
Aladdin tried to ignore how his heartbeat grew faster at the mentioning of the prince.
“I don’t know,” he replied.
He wasn’t lying.
Aladdin really was confused.
He was in love with Princess Jasmine. He fell in love with her at first sight. She was the reason he was doing all this. He’s supposed to feel these kinds of things with her. But why did his heart respond to Prince Hassan? It was only just a single carpet ride. It was supposed to keep Prince Hassan from alerting the guards and possibly winning his favor to see his sister.
Nothing much.
He was in love with the princess and that was it.
What was so special about the prince anyway?
He decided to shake off his thoughts and just enjoy the stunning view.
Deep inside his mind, a soft voice questioned, 'What if it wasn’t love you’re feeling for her in the first place?'
“The stars look pretty tonight," Genie commented when the young man grew silent for a tad too long.
“Yes, they do.”
